"Federal agents this week searched the Florida home of a 'doomsday prepper' they alleged had stockpiled over 50 high-powered assault rifles and several explosive devices buried around his property as 'booby traps'.

However the warrant showed up little more than barrels of food.

Martin Winters, a father-of-three from Valrico, surrendered to police on Wednesday following a widespread two-day hunt.

Investigators had claimed the 55-year-old was preparing for 'an end-of-times event as prophesied by the Book of Revelations', according to ABC News."

One device was made of plastic piping that used compressed air to shoot out fish hooks to trap and immobilize intruders. A second booby trap consisted of metal pipes that were designed to fire 12-gauge shotgun shells.

He also outlined his plans to defend his home from government agents using propane gas and pistols, according to court records. He told the undercover agent there were 40 armed men in the neighborhood willing to help him defend the property during his ?last stand.?

On Monday, authorities arrested five other people they said were members of the River Otter Preppers. James Beebe, Desiree Beebe, Jason Swain and Nicholas Hall were charged with being felons in possession of firearms; Michael Bonta was charged with making and possessing destructive devices without permission of registration, the same charges Winters faces.

Winters was arrested in 1979 for hunting deer out-of-season and received probation in 1985 after he was arrested for larceny. In 1989, he was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

I read the initial post and I'm like "How much do I bet he was pretending to be a hardcore prepper and the feds got wind of crazy shit he was saying he had and was going to do". The feds don't just rock up at the prepper's house who is boasting about his aquafarm. He was like one of the basement dwellers here pretending to be a baller except in prepper terms. I'm glad they're monitoring nut bars like this. Although its funny as shit his own paranoia made his paranoia come true except like in the majority of these circumstances it shows that even if you spend your whole life planning against, protecting yourself from and worrying about the gubmint they will still own your hillbilly ass. Oh and they don't give a shit about you until you start fantasising about killing people and making IEDs and aren't going to put you in a FEMA depopulation camp, they're just going to nip you in the bud before you kill someone.
