Which entry level DSLR camera?
So for those of you who know, I did some producing years ago. I am looking to get into just as a hobby photographing my girlfriend and other hot girls for fun (not porn).
I want to spend $400 max... ideally $300. For both the body and the basic 18-55mm lens. Refurbished ok. But I am not looking to scout craigslist and shit like that. I am currently looking at both the Canon EOS Rebel T3 ($319.95) and the Nikon D3200 ($399.95) both refurbished through B&H Photo. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Well the T3i is not the same as the T3. The T3i will cost me $428 refurbished.

It's over your budget but you can get a new t3i for $480. Plus you can get 10% cash back with shop discover. https://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-018...-camera-bundle

I?m a Canon guy but the specs on the Nikon look better. Nikon is a 24mp camera and the Canon is a 12mp camera. We all know MP doesn?t matter, but it?s always nice to have extra for crops. The Nikon also has video.
You can compare both against each other here http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikon-d3200/18 The Canon appears to have better picture quality IMO. |

I bought a T2i 2 years ago and love it, great camera. I've since spent quite an amount on it with new lenses and so on but that is optional. The T3i is even better, it came out about 2 months after I bought my T2i.

I also have a T3i and it's been a great camera. If you travel a lot and want to have a smaller format camera with all of the same quality, controls, etc try the Canon G15. It's much easier to carry and you have the same options as the T3i for the most part. I have both and use the G15 much more.

So just so you guys know. I found some photo comparisons, the Canon T3 and T3i both had significantly better image quality over the Nikon 3200.
Also the Nikon 3200 is one of their models without the autofocus motor. Which I don't like that it doesn't have that. That being said, the T3 has almost twice the battery life and image storage, I am assuming because its only 12MP compared to the T3i which is 18MP (i think). The only downside to the T3 really is it doesn't have auto sensor clean, and for video its only 720p with no external mic jack. The T3i has auto clean, 1080p with an external mic jack. (plus the extra mega pixels). But its $120 more.

i had in hand few different canons and nikons over past year from low range price like t3 or d90 t5 or d3100 and others and overall nikon pics were better quality. But canon interface is better, easier and have more functions. Lens is making big difference in quality too, i have nikon d3100 with 18-55 lens and i dont like that lens at all, in studio conditions, with same 50mm lens my d3100 was making same quality pics as d700, so lens is important too.

Brent, hit me up via my email in my sig if you're interested and I may work you a deal on my T3i. I've only used it for pics around the house and it probably has less than 200 shots taken with it. Also have an extra Canon battery for it. Looks brand new like it just came outta the box (and I also have the original box).
One issue, I don't have a lens to sell. All my lenses are expensive Canon glass so nothing to sell you that is cheap. But you can pick up a cheap lens from Craigslist or eBay for it. Reach out if you're interested..... |

I shoot video mostly on 5D & 7D but I've only played with video on my t3i a time or two but it's just fucking beautiful. Do a search on Youtube for "movie settings for t3i" and watch a few of those guys and see how they set up the camera for video. Any DSLR is very tricky to shoot video so be prepared to put spend some time practicing. It's not as easy as shooting with a regular video camera but if you are patient and learn how to set it up right, you'll get some beautiful stuff.

I haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet. Just been busy and no clear winner has jumped out at me. I like the T3 and T3i but its like 50/50 either way. Idk.
