Help old people get online to buy porn!

Mother's Day coincides with my father's birthday.

For the past few months they've been hinting at wanting the Samsung 3 tablet - so the wife and I went out earlier today and bought them a pair.

Initially we agreed on a budget of $160 (we were only going to buy one). Figurin' my Dad would use his for porn...and my Mom NOT - so we bought two.

So now we're up to over $500 (including taxes).

We hit up the daughter with an offer to let her chip in on the cost - she's agreeable.

Still need $475.

So we're crowd-funding on GFY.

Will accept all PayPal, bitcoin, laying hens and magic beans as donations - and in return my Dad will consider a subscription on your porn sites.

Sending you $475 for a one month subscribtion in return a $24.95 at my site is not a very cheap way to launder my money...

Actually - the wife was setting a few things up for them already. They mostly want the tabs for reading books and such...so we've pre-loaded a few apps the wife likes using.

I just know we'll be busy the next few months as 24/7 tech support for them.

my mom is that way, that's why when my pops died and she needed tech, I urged her to go with apple products, reason is I don't do apple, my sister does. She's now on 24/7 tech support for my mom. the television remote is an entirely other deal though1.

Smart move.

Actually it was rather painless - we gave them the tabs this afternoon and helped them through the setup. They're just larger "steroid" versions of our SG4 phones - so it was easy to walk them through the basics.

I'd sub-contract the TV remote, though.

About three years ago a friend of mine had what he thought was a brilliant business idea. He had helped his grandma get online and had built her a custom starting page for her browser with links to all her favorite sites and info like email etc.It worked for her, but she still called him with some questions. So he decided a good business would be helping elderly people get online and to teach them how to use the internet.

He built a basic site, went around and pitched his idea to a few local retirement homes and senior centers. He got some response, a few clients then got a senior center to agree to let him do a big pitch. Out of the 30 or so people that showed up he got 10 new clients. He set them up, helped them get running, and thought he was on his way to riches.

Then the calls started coming in. Everyday, multiple times per day they would call. He would get home from work (he had a regular job at the time) and have 20 pr 30 voicemails just from the 15 or 18 clients he had. He decided he needed to charge for support and that just pissed them off. They assumed they could pay him to set it up and they would get life long support for free.

After about a month, once he factored in all the time he had spent on support, plus driving, and teaching he realized he could make twice as much working at McDonald's.

The funniest part is that he closed the business down and since then has moved and has a new phone number yet he still occasionally gets calls from those seniors that had hired him. They track him down and need help with their gmail. LOL.

That's a horror story I could've done without.

Well, thankfully my Dad is totally computer savvy (at 76 yrs. old...rather remarkable), so I'm sure he'll transition to the tablet in no time. He's excited by all the stuff it'll do.

My Mom...that's a whole 'nother story. She's a little intimidated by the technology. But the good aspect of buying them his-'n-hers is they can learn together.

If he is computer savvy you are likely in the clear.

My mom used a computer at her job, but it was on old, original Mac. I gave her and old PC of mine and spent the next 6 months as constant tech support. She no longer has it and has talked about maybe getting a laptop. My cousin told he she might have an older one she can send her. I told the cousin if she does that she is on tech support because the calls will be coming.

No worries there.

His first system in '88 was a PC-XT running DOS - 20mb HD and 640k of RAM...and a 2400baud Zoltrix modem. The old dawg knew his way around IRQs and dip switches before half the kids on GFY were outta diapers.

He's likely forgotten more over the years than most people know about 'puters.

Not that any of that will do him much good learning a tablet, mind you.
