What % Avoid Clicking Obvious Referral Links?

Anyone got data on that? I'm running some tests at the moment

Are we talking surfers to sites, or webmasters avoiding webmaster referrals to sites?

I'm more interested in surfers, but I would assume webmasters do it far more

I can't understand why a webmaster would avoid using a ref link.

99.99% of surfers would have no idea what a referral link is. did you before you got into affiliate marketing?

Please can you link to that survey

Thing is, even if they don't know what it is, many have learned to be careful about what they are really clicking on, especially after all of the spam emails etc. If they see the strange referral code come up they might not click just to be safe, perhaps they can look for what is being promoted via Google instead.

There is a way of masking ref links in the browser - We used to do it back in the day with some simple javascript but that was stopped by the browsers - I have noticed that some sites are managing to do it again - I haven't looked into it but maybe that can be my job for the day...

Yoast wrote a decent piece on the cloaking issue and how to do it.
