How much do you pay per GB for your hosting?

I see all kinds of crazy deals everywhere and per mbs deals - so much misleading bs everywhere.

Bottom line - I am curious how much you pay per gb and how much gb/mth do you push.

For one of my projects I push about 1000gb/mth and pay $0.60/gb

I'd say for real unmetered b/w it should get much cheaper than that.

Bandwidth costs about 0.17 per gig wholesale. Anything above that is just profit.

http://www.cheapbw.com is from 30c per gig for no-frills gallery hosting, cheaper for really high volumes - I've found them pretty good, and the payment system is quite flexible.

Danny

Edit - just read your post again, they don't do PHP I think.

There are a lot of misleading deals out there Jojojo. It depends on if you want the lowest price on "theoretical gigs" or if you want to pay for what you actually use.
Someone can drop you a 10mbps line and tell you that its worth 3000 gigs a month, but its really not.
In theory, 10mbps peaked throughout the month will get you that many gigs, but if you have a capped 10mbps line and you keep it peaked, your sites will be unreachable.
You need to buy about twice as many megs as you average to ensure that your sites will load quickly during peak traffic times. So if you average 10mbps you'd have to buy 20mbps and so on.

I'd bet that most of these people who tell you they're getting 16 cents or 30 cents a gig pricing are basing it on the 10mbps=3000 gigs theory. If they sat down and figured up how much bandwidth they actually used, not how much they think they're allowed to use, the price would be much different.

Oh and BTW, I'm currently paying about 50 cents a gig, billed for what I actually use, for dual homed Level3/Uunet bandwidth.
And I push about 3500-4000 gigs a month.

Hrm..

As a host, here is what I have to say. Others in this thread got it right as well.

I can give you a nice pre-packaged deal @ .35/GB for 500GB.

-or- $.50/GB flat-rate no commitment

-or-

$800 for 10Mbit/sec.

Really, it's about all the same for me. No one ever uses their entire GB/mo commitment, but people will sign up for that plan 9 times out of 10 over the $.50/GB flat-rate, and 9 out of 10 of those people will be paying more than $.50/GB when you figure their actual usage.

-Phil

So I was right - most people pay $0.50-$0.75/gb and the rest of you THINK you are paying less.

So no one sells b/w per gb unmetered for $0.25 - everyone is jabbering about 10mbs line or 500mbs line - blah blah blah.

Fucking crooks

The difference between 0.08/gb and 0.17/gb bandwidth is that with 8cents per gb you only get to reach it half the time ;)

My bill for this month was $640.00

My total usage was 2800 GB. High point on MRTG was 16.7 M

So, about 23 cents flat rate per gig.

Oh, but I DID have about 5 minutes of downtime.

I can beat that! A certain provider quoted me $425 per month for 1Mbit/sec and 1RU of rack space. (ie extra $$$ to provide my own server)

In the same email they mentioned they match prices of other hosts. In other words, they know they're ripping me off with that quote.

In the same email they mentioned they match prices of other hosts. In other words, they know they're ripping me off with that quote.
LOL this is with a 'bought' server as well....it's my box that I already paid for....

the 300 a month is just to sit there and give me a whoping 150 gigs, and 2bucks overage...

I got the gravy-train package obviously.....

time to renegotiate pricing or move....foooooo shoooooooo

My bill for this month was $640.00

My total usage was 2800 GB. High point on MRTG was 16.7 M

So, about 23 cents flat rate per gig.

Oh, but I DID have about 5 minutes of downtime.
Are you billed per GB or do you pay $640 for the line if so how much $10/mbs?

$400 for an uncapped 10mbps line. Overage prices remain the same, $40 per 1mbps. I maxed out at 16.7 (Had I hit 17, it would have been another $40).

Because of this my actual price per month, per gig may vary.

I DO have a "Friend" price.
