How much do you pay per GB for your hosting?

I see all kinds of crazy deals everywhere and per mbs deals - so much misleading bs everywhere.

Bottom line - I am curious how much you pay per gb and how much gb/mth do you push.

For one of my projects I push about 1000gb/mth and pay $0.60/gb

I'd say for real unmetered b/w it should get much cheaper than that.

Shoplifter 03-09-2003 11:47 PM

I do 100 gigs a day on each of my servers. I pay about $350 each for them.

Marcus 03-09-2003 11:48 PM

i pay $.75/gig for tgp galleries

DjSap 03-10-2003 12:47 AM

Diffrent from host to host, but the cheapest that i'm currently using for galleries is $0.066/Gig

Morgan 03-10-2003 12:49 AM

I think I calculated mine to .1666666666... per gig.

**what is the max amt. of gigs you can produce on 10mbps????

BRISK 03-10-2003 12:51 AM

25 cents a gb for top quality bandwidth :thumbsup

Brujah 03-10-2003 12:52 AM

Bandwidth costs about 0.17 per gig wholesale. Anything above that is just profit.

At 10mbps 24 hours a day in a month you can transfer about 3000 GB

el_pimpodogo 03-10-2003 03:30 AM

$300 per 5mbits

Ok, please answer then: How much traffic do you have per month ?

smut monger 03-10-2003 05:45 AM

Damn, I need urls - post'em here NOW! :)

I need 500Gb [for hosted galleries so I need php also], who can give me it for less than $0.30/GB?

cotsios 03-10-2003 05:50 AM

Our prices start from $0.19 +
High Quality bandwith ( No cogent )

DannyW 03-10-2003 05:59 AM

http://www.cheapbw.com is from 30c per gig for no-frills gallery hosting, cheaper for really high volumes - I've found them pretty good, and the payment system is quite flexible.

Danny

Edit - just read your post again, they don't do PHP I think.

Snake Doctor 03-10-2003 06:07 AM

There are a lot of misleading deals out there Jojojo. It depends on if you want the lowest price on "theoretical gigs" or if you want to pay for what you actually use.
Someone can drop you a 10mbps line and tell you that its worth 3000 gigs a month, but its really not.
In theory, 10mbps peaked throughout the month will get you that many gigs, but if you have a capped 10mbps line and you keep it peaked, your sites will be unreachable.
You need to buy about twice as many megs as you average to ensure that your sites will load quickly during peak traffic times. So if you average 10mbps you'd have to buy 20mbps and so on.

I'd bet that most of these people who tell you they're getting 16 cents or 30 cents a gig pricing are basing it on the 10mbps=3000 gigs theory. If they sat down and figured up how much bandwidth they actually used, not how much they think they're allowed to use, the price would be much different.

Oh and BTW, I'm currently paying about 50 cents a gig, billed for what I actually use, for dual homed Level3/Uunet bandwidth.
And I push about 3500-4000 gigs a month.

smut monger 03-10-2003 07:04 AM

Well, I'm conscious of those "word games" some host used to play. That's why I'm giving you my exact inquiry. Plain and simple.

Not true, we can get .08/gb wholesale.

Phil21 03-10-2003 09:02 AM

Hrm..

As a host, here is what I have to say. Others in this thread got it right as well.

I can give you a nice pre-packaged deal @ .35/GB for 500GB.

-or- $.50/GB flat-rate no commitment

-or-

$800 for 10Mbit/sec.

Really, it's about all the same for me. No one ever uses their entire GB/mo commitment, but people will sign up for that plan 9 times out of 10 over the $.50/GB flat-rate, and 9 out of 10 of those people will be paying more than $.50/GB when you figure their actual usage.

-Phil

on a 10Mbps line if you push 24 X 7 for 30 days you will transfer about 3,300 gigs (330 per Meg)

So I was right - most people pay $0.50-$0.75/gb and the rest of you THINK you are paying less.

So no one sells b/w per gb unmetered for $0.25 - everyone is jabbering about 10mbs line or 500mbs line - blah blah blah.

Fucking crooks :321GFY

:1orglaugh

AdultNex 03-10-2003 03:15 PM

$0.50 / GB.

jojojo we can sell as low as $.24 depending on how much you buy, but as you can tell from reading these threads you get you pay for. At $.24 you will get cheap traffic and yes there might be some packet loss.

The difference between 0.08/gb and 0.17/gb bandwidth is that with 8cents per gb you only get to reach it half the time ;)

How about 99% of the time.

kronic 03-10-2003 06:49 PM

My bill for this month was $640.00

My total usage was 2800 GB. High point on MRTG was 16.7 M

So, about 23 cents flat rate per gig.

Oh, but I DID have about 5 minutes of downtime.

But it's up, ping it, so that was a bad comment. Were downgrading php, having problems with ModernBill (billing script) and took down Apache. We pay 0.08/gb for Cogent bw and it's good.

Dayummmmm

I feel like a total chump now for paying 300 per mpbs and 2bucks a gig overage :/ my host must fucking love my gravy train...

I can beat that! A certain provider quoted me $425 per month for 1Mbit/sec and 1RU of rack space. (ie extra $$$ to provide my own server)

In the same email they mentioned they match prices of other hosts. In other words, they know they're ripping me off with that quote.

LOL this is with a 'bought' server as well....it's my box that I already paid for....

the 300 a month is just to sit there and give me a whoping 150 gigs, and 2bucks overage...

I got the gravy-train package obviously.....

time to renegotiate pricing or move....foooooo shoooooooo

$400 for an uncapped 10mbps line. Overage prices remain the same, $40 per 1mbps. I maxed out at 16.7 (Had I hit 17, it would have been another $40).

Because of this my actual price per month, per gig may vary.

I DO have a "Friend" price.
