Where the World's Unsold Cars Go To Die

Original http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-0...ld-cars-go-die

"In the past several years, one of the topics covered in detail on these pages has been the surge in such gimmicks designed to disguise lack of demand and end customer sales, used extensively by US automotive manufacturers, better known as "channel stuffing", of which General Motors is particularly guilty and whose inventory at dealer lots just hit a new record high. But did you know that when it comes to flat or declining sales and stagnant end demand, channel stuffing is merely the beginning?

Presenting...

Above is just a few of the thousands upon thousands of unsold cars at Sheerness, United Kingdom. Please do see this on Google Maps....type in Sheerness, United Kingdom. Look to the west coast, below River Thames next to River Medway. Left of A249, Brielle Way.

Timestamp: Friday, May 16th, 2014.

There are hundreds of places like this in the world today and they keep on piling up...
Sheerness is probably the largest import/export dockyard for cars in the UK. If the first paragraph of the article is utter bollocks is there any point reading further?

All concocted rubbish.

If you look at the Port of Melbourne car ramping area you'll see scenes like this every day.

Cars move around the world in massive numbers, car carrying ships load thousands of them per journey. They are stored before they are shipped.

This article from the WSJ explains the batching up of production runs, storage of bulk unsold cars, idling of plants until the glut is sold. It's a cycle.

I agree. These cars aren't waiting to be crushed, they are waiting to be transported to the dealerships. San Diego used to have a huge lot like this years ago, way before crash. It was under the freeways. Ford has a smaller lot here near where I live.

When I was living in San Diego I went for a drive down by the harbor. We came across this massive, massive, massive lot full of cars. It was obvious they were waiting to be picked up by trains or ships, but it was incredible how many cars were there. Thousands I'm sure.

Think along the lines of BP deliberately blowing up the Macondo oil well in the Gulf of Mexico...it's about supply and demand; it's vital to keep the supply lower to ensure the prices stay up

face it, the article was made up purely based on the photos with no other evidence.

they over build tho go to any subway around 5pm they throw out subs made throughout the day. instead of offering them at a way cheaper price they put them in the trash. when i would get off work id get like a pile of them and feed the homeless at the library park. the guy at subway helped me load them in my truck.

I was staying in Buenos Aires a few years ago(near the Obelisco), Maccas was across the road from my hotel and each night at closing, a crowd of homeless would gather.

The staff would drop garbage bags outside the doors and the homeless would go through all the left over food sharing it out amongst everyone.

I've worked on those ships carrying cars all around the world. We could transport up to 8000 cars per run, on a total of 13 decks. We could arrive to a harbour and it would be cars, cars and even more cars all over. After 24 hours of constant loading, the space was more or less empty and we were fully loaded and ready to go.

Have to park cars some where people think their new car has always been undercover is all.
These will all go to new homes eventually.

I worked at the Port of Los Angeles for a while, and every so often a car-carrying ship would come in. A crew of men would drive cars off the ship into a parking lot, then run back into the ship and do it again until the parking lot was full or the ship was empty. It was pretty cool to watch.
