I know you've never been here, while I've been there (in the USA for example). I tell you a secret (not about a whole Russia but about Moscow for example). Something about after 11PM and during the night, all the bars/pubs/restaurants/strip clubs here turns into small England and States, because most of visitors there speak English and American English. Crimea is a different situation, semi-autonomous, crucial warm weather port - I understand its importance to Russia. If Russians encroach on East Ukraine the world must stand up to them.

Not a surprise Americans and Brits enjoy Moscow, there's money to be made and it's a cosmopolitan city where people with money buy what rich people everywhere buy - sex, entertainment, fashion, cars, food, drink, drugs. I don't think anybody thinks Russia is still the drab miserable city it was painted as under Communist rule. Even during the Soviet era I'm sure the major cities of Russia had first class restaurants and clubs that the elite enjoyed.

The Ukraine and Russia have much in common, Kiev was the birthplace of Russian language and culture.

To a foreigner a Russian and Ukrainian would be identical.

Millions of Russians and Ukrainians have families and connections in the other country.

If the Ukraine were to join the EU it would mean the splitting up of hundreds of thousands of families, they would need to obtain visas to visa their families.

Nationalism is a dangerous and bankrupt ideology in a world which is ever smaller and is one economy.

The struggle between big power blocks of US, EU, Russia and China and their use of small countries as pawns to fight proxy wars needs to be resisted and we need to build an international movement of respect for all peoples and their right to work and happiness.

Ukraine has a big vote on Friday to join the EU, so if Putin wants to grab further than Crimea, he'd better get some bullets flying. With Crimea officially not part of Ukraine anymore, they've gotten rid of all the pro-Russian voters. They're free to join up with Europe, as long as Putin doesn't take them by force.

Just to clarify if you look back at my comment, I didn't say Russia is good, just significantly the lesser of the two evils (when compared to the West). Let's say USA has an evil rating of 94, EU 97 and Britain 91, then that gives Russia 82

(for reference Iceland would score 14)

The Soviet Union was a lot worse than the current Russia, though keep in mind the setup/revolution was funded from New York. The Global Banker's wanted their central banks in Russia.

Well it's nobody's fault but these countrie's fault, now there's another "puppet" governments answering local influences that play two sides - "conforming" with the west on the outside but willing to keep their old style of corrupt existence - it doesn't work.

Obviously it's easier to make a "revolution" or anything else alibi like apart from trying to solve the things they managed to cause and continue to do so in the first place.

According to that HDI table it doesn't look so, because even during last 3 years it moved 4 positions down (i.e. the the HDI does not grow there, it makes even worse).
