DV to laptop
I have some old DV tapes.
The thing is, how do I plug them into a laptop as it does not have a dv input.

Ask Damian. I hear he has some knowledge on the subject. I think you two would get along brilliantly.

your firewire connection is DV in and out (IEEE1394)
connect it to your dv camcorder with a firewire connection via the appropriate cable and you can capture video from the camcorder to the laptop

If the computer doesn't have firewire / 1394 you'll need to get an adapter.
Newegg.com has two types. Older laptop that has a pcmcia slot takes one adapter. New laptop that has USB 3.0 is another.
