ATTN Shooters: Re: "Models", "Talent", "Sluts", "Whores", etc...

When discussing the above, how do you refer to them? Obviously there are different points of view and that's what I'm looking to discuss in this thread.

IMHO, if not for the "Models", "Talent", "Sluts", "Whores", etc... We would have zero business. Because of this, I typically speak in more positive ways about the ladies I work with whether they are part of the conversation or not. On occasion, I have been known to refer to a model as a bitch but that's when a specific model has acted as such, not referring to them as "bitches" in general. Although we've all done that jokingly from time to time too.

I understand there are some productions where the theme revolves around degradation and that's fine with me so long as the model understands what she's getting into. Take Kink.com content for example. They coach the model respectfully, shoot the scene which is typically very hardcore and/or degrading, then shoot an exit interview where the models are clearly happy.

To sum it up, the way I see it is that just because a model is willing to be degraded on camera (or even off) does not mean that the door is wide open to assign disrespectful titles to them.

What are your thoughts?

Porn models are definitely sluts (who would do porn if not a slut?), but of course it is not polite to call them while they are present.

I personally do not understand why all the fuss, some replies in that thread was as if he called them that in the ad or in their face and that was the reason he did not get applications

A slut gives it away for free, a whore gets paid. They are not mutually exclusive. Just because someone has sex on camera doesn't make them a slut.

I refer to them as models. Even when they change clothes in front of me versus doing it in the bathroom I maintain eye contact. I do not talk to them about porn, what guys do to this content, or anything along those lines. I keep everything professional and respectful from the time I interview them, all of the way through the photo shoots.

I wouldn't say there's a "lot of fuss" around this but it is a topic I'm interested in discussing. I highly doubt anybody is going to change their mind about their choice in the matter. I'm just looking for other insights.

For me, it goes straight to character. Although I feel that I get along with many of those who assign the derogatory titles, I also notice the kind of content that most of them appear to shoot as well as the way they perceive women in general.

Over the years I've seen a number of people post some pretty fucked up things that models have done, beyond the basic theft that most of us deal with. I'm talking about models driving cars into the house of a producer, other models reporting alleged crimes. The people that these things seem to happen to are, more often than not, the same people who see things differently than I do. Perhaps there's a trend there to consider?

I'm not saying my way is the best way. It's just me....Everybody is different.

Cheers.

"what guys do to this content"

Damn, would you believe the thought to discuss this has never even crossed my mind? Why would anybody ever paint that picture for a model? lol

There's really no reason to use degrading names when you're just talking about work or going about the business of filming girls for shoots. I usually use the term 'models' when discussing the girls I'm shooting.

It's different when people are actually having sex and talking dirty as a turn on- then it's totally cool to use the terms slut and whore and all that. But to refer to women directly by names like that in casual conversation, I think it's completely unnecessary.

I actually wrote "whore", but then edited it for political correct reasons
Anyway whore can also be a slut and in most cases they are. They give it up for free and the decides to give it up for money. That makes them whore but slut title stays as well.

Same.

I don't have much use for anyone who denigrates models by referring to them as sluts or whores.

I'm glad Aaron brought this topic up. It's something I've always had an issue with over the years in this industry.

I think some of it depends on the spirit of how you perceive them.

Some people call a girl a "whore" and it is meant with complete disgust and contempt.

But then again, there are people who are in the industry and love the performers and can call them a "whore" and mean it in a "good" way and never have a girl take offense (I do it all the time...hell, I call my own wife a "fucking whore" lol)

I consider the girls in this industry (the real ones, not the drug addled amateur ones) to be some of the smartest most "together" people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in my life (and I've met a lot of people from all walks of life when I toured clubs in my bands over the decades).

And yeah, I'll jokingly call them whores. And they call me "motherfucker" and "bastard", etc.

But we are all friends, fuck-buddies, and work together. To me, it's just camaraderie. They are my friends.

If any of the actual girls themselves ever were to tell me that it somehow "hurt their feelings" I would not joke about it with them again. But since all the girls I'm friends with in this business are funny and smart...that's never happened.

At the same time...I know a lot of guys who are sort of in this business who would NEVER call a girl a whore. But in private you find out those same guys really have no respect for the women and are just acting "nice" to the girl's faces.

All valid points.

You're absolutely right about the camaraderie part. Having a fun/joking relationship and using the terms in that way, or even in marketing the content is different to me than assigning a blanket term to all.

Thanks for the reply.

Well....More like an awareness of it. Since I don't do it, I'm not overly concerned.

Maybe call them by their name? WTF kinda question is this? The only way you can have any closeness with the person you are trying to capture "that moment" would begin with a simple hello [insert name here] and grow from this. Common sense I would think?

Of course, if you are just meeting them for the first time when you're filming them! lol

You'd have to be insane to walk up to a model (or any woman) that isn't already a close friend and call them a slut.

For me, the fact that they may do nude / adult has nothing to do with it. I judge people on how they carry themselves....

Girl shows up to do a shoot, on time, friendly, easy to work with, respectful, thankful for the work etc -----> I would likely refer to her as a model / talent /girl

Girl shows up to shoot late, is loaded, obnoxious, rude, offers herself up to anyone around for cash------> while I would not refer to her directly this way, I would be thinking "slut", "whore" etc

its not WHAT you do, its HOW YOU DO what you do 2c

Didn't bother to read anyone else's responses but I couldn't agree with you more!!!!!

It pisses me off when guys on here call talent whores and so on. Many are just girls shooting porn, not tricking on the fucking street corner with a needle in their arm. Show some respect, you likely run sites that use what they do to drive around in your fancy car.

That same respect should carry over to the next time as well. I will call my wife a slut, only because she likes that at times and place, usually when i have her hair in my fist and her face in the pillow....works for her. Never someone I do not have that same closeness to.

I agree, but I do call our friends in this business "whores". But we are all close.

Just like I call guys I know who are good friends all kinds of stupid names too (fuckhead, dumbass, asshole, bitch, etc.). But you know what I mean, it's just fun ball busting amongst friends who are of a like mind.

I have the utmost respect for the women in our business.
As for the ones who are late, do a no-show, show up fucked up on set...I would NEVER call them a "Whore".

It would be an insult to whores. lol
A whore (in my way of thinking) is a bad-ass money-making intelligent girl.
The ones who are fuck-ups are just amateurish fuck-ups to me.

Matter of fact when people ask me what I do...I tell them I'm just a "suitcase pimp"

You are the real deal, nothing but respect, and i KNOW, you give just this. Hell, i am not even a shooter, just know how to treat women with respect, as it is either in us, or not.

Fine line when dealing in a business situation as to how are actions are measured......a lot can be learned from someones response, as I think Aaron is fishing for. So easy for the ones that have not learned the respect to get caught up in the perceived way these wonderful women should be addressed. Ah fuck it, i have a "Captain save a Ho shirt" in the dresser......been doing it for years.

As far as you go....Part of me see's that you seem like a laid back chill kinda dude. I can appreciate that. However, there's another part to you that I disagree with. I'd buy you a beer, shake your hand, and be cool with you on a personal level. On a professional one, I would NEVER refer a model to you or do any other kind of business with you.

People are different. It's all good.

most "models" are fucked up people who need content producers because they have no follow through to do it themselves. "whats your damage" is a pretty typical question that gets asked to these girls. if they weren't doing porn they'd most likely be escorting (though most are doing that as well anyways) or on the streets.
lets face it, most do porn because they are too lazy and irresponsible to show up for a real job 9 hours a day 5 days a week. some would argue that they are smarter and *some* may be but its more the exception and not the rule. by definition a girl who has sex for money is a whore. people should at least get the terminology right.

one thing i think aaron has wrong though that while whore and slut have negative connotations, they don't have to be negative. i like girls who are sluts and whores. girls who aren't sluts and whores are boring. being a slut or whore or both is a good thing.

You wouldn't be able to hire me in the first place. I've hand picked my clients and turned many down for years now.

I have no interest in mentoring you and after this post, I'll take back that whole shake your hand and buy you a beer thing. I'm sure you're devastated.

I'll also be adding you to my ignore list now.

Have a nice life.

Wow, that is a huge brush, fuck? I think you just painted the whole damn talent pool in one stroke?

BEING a slut or a whore is one thing and I'm fine with that. It's those who are using the words in an intentionally derogatory way that I disagree with. Robbie is a great example of a more acceptable way, time, and place to do so. If you think I haven't called my wife those things and more, under certain circumstances, then you're wrong. Hell, in some circles, I used to introduce her as my "Nigg3r" because she and I appreciated the shock value it offered. Would I do that in general? No. Would I do it with humor? In a heartbeat.
