her body isn't in it anymore and all attempts failed in trying to change that judging by past concerts and outings. i think she should put out a book about the workings of the industry that will especially touch on her breakdown in 2006, and encourage healthy mental well-being. she could talk about her younger sister, why she didn't become a star. she has children now anyway not a good look for a pop-star i would like to see her become soul. she could be like the white donna summer, and give adele a run for her money.

I read that they are bringing in a little over $500,000 for each of her "performances" or whatever the fuck you call what she is doing up there.

So she's personally getting about 60% of the money. But I guess that the $200,000 PLUS all the publicity for Planet Hollywood is worth it to them.

A lot of people don't know (and neither did I until I moved here and researched the history of Vegas), but Planet Hollywood is actually the old "Aladdin" Casino in Vegas.

They tore Aladdin down and rebuilt it. It was originally built in 1962.

It had to be imploded in 1998 due to structural requirements.

Once it re-opened it never was able to be successful. And Planet Hollywood bought it and changed the sign and took out the "Arabian Nights" theme inside.

So it's kind of an "older" property in a sense. Not really designed to keep up with places like The Cosmo. And even though Caesars Palace is old (from the 1960's), they've managed to keep it kicking ass with big name stars playing there.

So I guess that's what Planet Hollywood is doing too.

I know that every "new" star plays here as well...but they only offer the residency gigs to stars who have a big enough fan base to pull a crowd every night.
I think that's why Britney only does 48 nights a YEAR.

She doesn't have the kind of multi-generational fan base that Celine, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Cher, and some of the other older singers do.
They are able to pack the house every night because they get fans from over the decades. Whereas the newer stars would only have the young demographic (which means that unless they are 21 or over they can't drink and spend money in the casino...and even the ones who are over 21 but still not very old don't usually have much money to spend as the middle age people do).
Anyway, that's my theory.

No, I agree they are "past their prime".

For whatever reason, it seems that the majority of musicians hit their peak when they are still young.

But none of the ones I mentioned came to Vegas and suddenly didn't have any new hit records. They all got their residencies long after the hit records had stopped.

They are booked here because of their longevity and popularity across generations.

I personally have no desire to go see Cher for instance. But every gay and tranny within 1000 miles aged 18 to 80 will be there in droves every night to pack the house. lol

I have went to 2 of the older artists residency shows at Caesers: Elton Johns show and Rod Stewart's show.

The younger ones really can't do that simply because they haven't been around long enough to have multi-generational fans.

I'd say you could bet your ass that IF a young hot artist like Bruno Mars or Miley Cyrus, etc. were to get offered $100 million dollars to play the same gig every night for 70 nights like Celine Dion got at Caesars then they would jump on it.

Believe me, there is nothing better than to get to play the same venue every night instead of having to travel.

Not about the size of the fan base but the breadth, age span. Lots of new stars have huge fan bases but not of the age group that typically visit Las Vegas.

Plus any show that breaks even or close to it based on ticket sales is a huge win for any casino. They don't book so much to make money from tickets but to get bodies into the casinos and attract attention.

Britney provides name recognition and a wide fan base. Even those who might never have heard her music or been fans know something about her. Scandal sells.

I've been told by quite a few taxi drivers, that it was due to Sept 11th that Alladin couldn't make it. People wouldn't stay there after that, then later it re-opened as Planet Hollywood. I stayed there though before it was changed and also back when it was the original.
