Netflix versus Hulu versus Amazon Prime??? Any thoughts?

Tired of cable. Time to cut the cord. Thoughts?

Cut the cord three years ago now. I use all three and wouldn't consider giving up any of them.

We got tired of hanging tv's in different rooms and having to run a bunch of cables through walls and having boxes etc all powered in/looking messy so scrapped much of it.

Aside from bedroom and main room, now we have large-ish tablets mounted on the walls streaming tv, netflix, movies etc and use squeezeboxes for streaming radio and music with a central NAS drive.

Yes, the screens are smaller but its mostly background watching but its great in the kitchen when you can be watching something then switch to internet to check on the ingredients for something for cooking while everything is mounted.

I watch free Hulu occasionally, but I have read that some of their paid content has commercials in it which would annoy me. I have a Netflix account and love it. When I bought my Kindle I got a free month of Amazon Prime. It is okay especially if you buy a lot of stuff from there because of the free shipping, but I wasn't too impressed with the streaming service. This was a couple of years ago though, so it might be better now.

To me Netflix is the best of the three by far.

If netflix has everything those other have why do people who has netflix subscribe to the other two?

As example:

All three have exclusive content. Hulu has some great stuff, in that department.

Amazon has a lot of exclusive TV on DVD stuff that neither of the others have.

Netflix has a family plan how that lets you stream to 4 devices at once. Coupled with their HUGE children's selection of content, this is a plus. Amazon doesn't seem to have an limits yet and neither does Hulu. Amazon has Nickelodeon and Netflix has Disney.

I also use Redbox instant, but that's mostly because it's been free and they've been giving me a ton of at the box rentals for FREE too.

Not quite that caliber, but they do have a bunch of stuff that you can't see elsewhere.

The Other Mans on Hulu is some awesome. Amazon has the first four Seasons of Justified and a few other shows that aren't found anywhere else.

For movies, they all have the same crappy selection most of the time. Netflix might have an edge with documentaries.

I watch Netflix nearly everyday. I have Prime but only use it now and then. Largely because I forget the streaming is there and most of what I would want to watch is also on Netflix.

I haven't used Hulu yet because I don't want to end up with another monthly payment.

I do still have cable but there is increasingly less reason to have it.

Hulu Plus if you like Network TV shows, Documentaries and Anime, the movie selection is weak.

Netflix for movies and everything else.

Amazon Prime is redundant if you have the two above.

If you want to buy movies online try Vudu.

i use this for Netflix: https://mediahint.com/

once you have your payment info in your Netflix account, it doesnt seem to matter anymore from where you log in (you might be a legit customer travelling)

since Netflix blacklists DNS all the time, the plugin might not always work for the signup/payment subdomain of Netflix - in that case also a US proxy can help, you will only need it up to the point you entered your credit card info - then you can change it back

Amazon prime is just great for the shipping. But Netflix is far superior
I just do fios, Netflix streaming, Netflix DVDs, amazon prime because I don't care
All my tv watching I just prerecord the shows anyway. I'm pretty sure I could make it up with streaming services and just buy a few of the missing shows

netflix by far and for VOD apple tv/itunes

Amazon Prime has some decent things, but their interface is pretty bad. I was never big fan of Hulu.

I use Netflix for some older releases, documentaries, and TV series. They have a decent selection of things I hadn't seen, so I watched Breaking Bad, Weeds, Battlestar Galactica, Orange is the New Black, and X-Files through them, as well as some movies I missed when they came out.

I use HBO Go for more recent releases, and for their excellent series. I've seen Game of Thrones, Sopranos, The Wire, Oz, Boardwalk Empire, and a bunch of others through here. Some good documentaries, and excellent boxing coverage. Plus, it's free with my HBO subscription.

I use Apple TV for very recent movies (which come with an on-demand rental fee). From here, I've seen all of the usual "just out of the theater" stuff.

I use Hulu Plus to see some of the older series that I missed, as well as current seasons of stuff I watch now. Occasionally, I'll see a movie on here that I want to check out, but it's pretty rare.

Although I have Amazon Prime, I haven't yet found anything I want to see using it.

Hope that helps explain the differences! Also, I highly recommend getting an Apple TV if you run a Mac, or a Roku if you run Windows or Linux. Streaming movies right to your TV is really nice, if you torrent current-releases, or harder-to-find stuff. Plus, it makes Netflix and all of the other services super-easy to interface with.

I don't like using them, because the streaming quality usually blows, but I've seen them up in less than an hour after airing.

Can anyone explain why on the free versions of hulu or crakle you cant full size the initial commercial, that is sooooooooooooooo annoying. I understand they need to make money but why can you watch it in full size and lay back down on the couch or bed, instead of having to stand there waiting for the damn commerical to end.

It depends what you want to watch from Comedy Central. The Daily Show, Colbert and South Park all put their new episodes on their websites the next day.

Unless it changed recently, the Food Network kind of sucks in that department. They have a full episodes player but it is usually random old stuff with the occasional new show thrown in.

Amazon billed my credit card 5 times for the same product. I had to do two extended online chats to finally get them to stop.

I have amazon prime and netflix. Netflix seems to have the better selection of those two I would say. Plus second season of house of cards is coming out in a week!

My kid spent $80 downloading Android crap from the Amazon store. There's no way to stop the kids from buying stuff, if you have one click set up on your main account.

Chat rep refunded all of them, without question. Some were purchased a month before we managed to figure out she was still able to buy, even though we thought we had things locked down (which we did...aside from the one click, which they don't tell you).

To top if off, if you delete the Amazon Store...all the apps you've downloaded no longer work.
