Stadium Holds 82,500 to think people without a ticket are going to flock to 30 degrees and ultra high prices for everything in a 100 mile radius was just stupid. People will be at home in front of their TV, or in nice places like Vegas

There are plenty of 1%ers NFL fans that have discretionary dollars to blow on the superbowl regardless of where it is.

Choopa_Pardo 01-30-2014 07:24 AM

Both teams are staying at hotels less than a 12 minute walk from my apartment. Other than seeing the team buses I have noticed no difference or hullabaloo around town.

You are right, I was eye balling a 70 inch led from Samsung at costco. The picture looked amazing. It would cost less then going. And you get to keep the tv.

When it's fashion week, I know that the airports will be busy on the first 2 days and the last 2 days of the 10 day event. The hotels raise their rates and are full - at $700 a night plus at the major hotels. And I'm busy all day and all night bringing people to the shows at Lincoln Center and then smaller shows at various venues throughout the city and then all of the label parties throughout the evening until about 2-3am. And this starts with Day 1.

So far for the Superbowl this week: nothing. They had a welcome party downtown on Monday and said they needed taxis for 3,000 people. There weren't 200 there. Last night they said they were expecting 5,000 at Pier 60, a big event space. There were more people bowling at the lanes next door.

I'm saying after all the hype that it brings in 400,000 people and generates half a billion in revenue for the host city has not panned out so far. Certainly not worth putting a dome on a stadium to get on the Superbowl host circuit like they've been talking about in the NY media.

I think somebody asked you this before - do you own the medallion?

I lived in San Diego when the Super Bowl was there. It was totally insane. The weather is taking its toll on the turnout.

Yes, bought it in 2002, paid it off in 2012.

Police: High-end drug and prostitution ring busted on Super Bowl week

(CNN) -- The 18 operators of a high-end drug trafficking and prostitution ring allegedly banking on Super Bowl week to deliver "party packs" of cocaine and prostitutes have been arrested, New York authorities said Thursday.

The nearly year-long undercover investigation discovered that in addition to selling the so-called "party packs," the ring allegedly laundered the illegal proceeds through front businesses that included a clothing wholesaler, a wig wholesaler, a limousine service and a beauty supply wholesaler, New York Attorney General Schneiderman said in a statement.

The ring allegedly generated millions of dollars in illegal proceeds and planned to target high-end clientele coming to the New York area for the Super Bowl.

I thought it was until I went to real football towns.
I'm sure the weather isn't helping, but when you look at your itinerary & everything is in nj, fuck ny.

pretty much my thoughts exactly. i opted for vegas for superbowl weekend, like hell i want to hang out in the cold!

If the cheerleaders are wearing their usual skimpy outfits, they're going to have to shake a lot of T n' A to stay warm.

CDSmith 01-30-2014 03:38 PM

Funny how all of the outdoor NHL 'winterfest' style stadium games have attracted tens of thousands of fans every game to the tune of crowds of 55-70 thousand, all (except for that LA crowd) have sat through some frigid weather. Yet the Superbowl, one of the largest and most watched sporting events on the planet is suffering over one cold game?

Come on.

And every good NYer knows that Jersey is just a suburb of NYC. :D

To be fair - those NHL games are special in the mere sense that they are played outdoors. That only fact is interesting. And in this case its stadium as usual for NFL.
But yes, cold should not stop visitors to go to stadium. Just not so many people would be partying in the streets.

CE Adam 01-30-2014 04:36 PM

NYC and MetLife Stadium are only connected via mass transit by one train line that requires a one hour trip each way and requires a train change. It's not exactly convenient to stay in Manhattan then jump on the train to the game. I've done it many many times for Jets games.

After each game there is a massive wait to get a train home, it takes forever, and the trains are jammed like a subway during rush hour.

I'm sure it will be a giant clusterfuck getting in/out of there no matter if you drive or take mass transit but NJ will still pull it off.

Most people probably have not yet arrived for this event since its only Thursday and the game is Sunday.

The high rollers will definitely be there though. Its the SuperBowl.

http://money.cnn.com/2014/01/24/news...-private-jets/

Would a ton of people flock to NYC a week early in February just to hang out? I really doubt it, but they will start showing up starting today. :thumbsup :thumbsup

Superbowl Sux this year, it's not just NYC it's even affecting here, usually there is a ton of promotion for pizza biz as it is the biggest day of the year for pizza biz, this year people aren't even doing normal promotions, let alone the usual take no prisoners race to win the huge piece of the Superbowl money pie that usually happens. Whoever decided to move this to Jersey must have worked on Obamacare lol.

This could generate some interest...

I heard a rumor that since the Goodyear blimp couldn't fly to the Super Bowl this year, there is a plan to fill NJ Gov. Chris Christie with helium in order to get aerial footage.

I remember a time when people would still go regardless of the cold.

But in one way or another the general public has been told to stay in their homes for more than a decade. Therefore it should be no surprise that no one wants to come to any events anymore. Especially if they are on television.

Game day will be almost 50 degrees...perfect football playing and watching weather. Looks like the ticket holders dodged a bullet on this one.

Just checked the latest weather report and it says:

Quote:

Weather forecasters say that by game time -- note to party hosts, 6:30 p.m. ET --- a clipper system will have moved through New Jersey, leaving just a few inches of new snow behind in East Rutherford.

Temperatures will be in the mid-30s at kickoff.

How does it being hosted in Jersey affect those that usually watch game on TV and buy pizzas?

RandyRandy 01-31-2014 08:52 AM

Well, last night you could tell there were plenty of Superbowl fans in town, at least in Times Square. I'm expecting it'll be real busy today as well. Had 4 customers in town for the game, great conversations and all four tipped really well - not usual for someone from out of town. And I don't know about you guys, but I always get a kick out of have an in-depth football conversation with a woman who really knows her stuff!

bronco67 01-31-2014 09:48 AM

Okay, so 30 degrees is bearable. It's when you cross that threshold of 20 and below where things can get uncomfortable.

It also depends on the wind. 25 farenheit and slow wind is way better than 30 farenheit and strong winter wind.
