Rich Businessman Compares Treatment Of The Rich To The Holocaust

Let's get ready to ruuuummmbbbllllle...

Venture capitalist Thomas Perkins wrote a letter to the editors at the Wall Street Journal, comparing the plight of the rich to the Holocaust, called "Progressive Kristallnacht Coming?"... and the WSJ published it.

"I would call attention to the parallels of fascist Nazi Germany to its war on its 'one percent,' namely its Jews, to the progressive war on the American one percent, namely the 'rich,'" Perkins writes. Thomas Perkins, one of the founders of venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers, was comparing taxes on the super rich to the slaughter of millions in the Holocaust.

Select "all companies"

And then ask yourself "why aren't we listening to a guy who's created 100's of 1000's of jobs?"

"Regarding your editorial "Censors on Campus" (Jan. 18): Writing from the epicenter of progressive thought, San Francisco, I would call attention to the parallels of fascist Nazi Germany to its war on its "one percent," namely its Jews, to the progressive war on the American one percent, namely the "rich."

From the Occupy movement to the demonization of the rich embedded in virtually every word of our local newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle, I perceive a rising tide of hatred of the successful one percent. There is outraged public reaction to the Google buses carrying technology workers from the city to the peninsula high-tech companies which employ them. We have outrage over the rising real-estate prices which these "techno geeks" can pay. We have, for example, libelous and cruel attacks in the Chronicle on our number-one celebrity, the author Danielle Steel, alleging that she is a "snob" despite the millions she has spent on our city's homeless and mentally ill over the past decades.

This is a very dangerous drift in our American thinking. Kristallnacht was unthinkable in 1930; is its descendent "progressive" radicalism unthinkable now?"

I don't think he compared it to the Holocaust, but rather FASCIST GERMANY with respect to the Jews, and yes, there is a difference, and I agree with him 100%.

Before the holocaust happened (the systemic killing of Jews and others via death camps), there was a run up of hatred of the jews. Germans blamed their economic woes on the Jews, who were successful. Fast forward a few years, you had ghettos for Jews, and a few years after that, the Holocaust.

The parallels are spot on, to FASCISCT GERMANY, particularly in the 1930s in the run up to the holocaust.

All the people who want to eat the rich today, (and this country, 250k+ is rich acording to the govt), are likely the same idiot masses that got sucked into believe it's everyone whose "rich" is fault as to why their life sucks today. And the reality is, it's not everyone whose rich's fault. There's a lot of reasons for it, from a few rich assholes to the idiocy of the government these same people are trying to empower, to globalization.

You could tax the rich 100% of everything they had and there still wouldn't be enough money to go around or significantly impact peoples lives for the better, because once the government got their greedy paws on it, it would just mint new and different billionaires via corruption and stupidity.

One of the biggest flaws between all of this class warfare is there is no distinction among "the rich." You have a chat with someone and theyll pull out names like Jamie Dimon or some other Wall Street CEO. But theres a difference between Bankers/Financial Engineers, Multi National Corps, Mid-Size to Small-Cap Businesses, and then your regular Small Business Owners. But in the discussions, all people want to do is blame rich people, like every rich person is a big fucking greedy asshole. It's easy to take shots at the rich when you think of everyone rich as a "billionaire."

I did think abut what would happen if people started just killing those 85 people that hold more wealth then half the world. I am not sure I would want to be on that list.

News flash the NAZI's werent liberals but extreme righties. They were against unions, homosexuality .... seeing a recurring theme and its not liberal.
Also this is all bullshit , obama is not a liberal.
Wall St has made more money under Obama than ever before.

He talks the bullshit buts lets look at what he has done, pretty much nothing. Dont see any bankers in jail. no pushing for a $20 an hour min wage. Obama care is a huge giveback to the insurance industry and the drug industry which are private enterprises who are practicing true capitalism raising rates for real coverage and dropping others.

When taxes are higher, employment is up. Because at the time it makes more sense to put it back into your business than pull it out.
Taxes have been historically lower than in 50 yrs and we arent at 2 percent unemployment.
And technology has got rid of many jobs that will never come back. I was reading in the next 10 yrs robots will replace 47% of positions. So making taxes zero is not going to bring a jobs boom but they better figure out what they are going to do with those people. Or they will have a big problem.

He should not be allowed to write a letter about his personal views and have it published in the letters section of the WSJ.

I agree, the peeps after the rich have no concept of working or commitment to a task... even at mc donalds 40% of the management were once hourly burger tossesrs as well as 40% of the franchise owners....

easier to sit around and demand stuff that get out and work... looking at my situation from the outside people would assume I'm rich but far from it as my business supports my life style yet there isn't enough 'net' to really do anything..... I can' t even afford another car working 80 +/- hours a week..... wonder if a 43.7% tax rate has anything to do with that?

Economically the Nazis were huge liberals. They raised taxes, expanded social programs, and put a ton of people to work building shit - roads, stadiums, govt projects, etc. This is a big reason how Hitler garnered support for the Nazi party. Germany was doing terribly due to the reparations from WW1. The people felt betrayed because of how bad they were doing. By providing people with money and a job + propaganda machine + murdering his political rivals when he needed to, he consolidated power and became the leading party of Germany (with only 40% support mind you from the people, this is also why he had the SS to come after people against his party). It's really not right to compare him being a rightie because he hated all types of people back then - if thats the case, in that time period, then everyone was "right wing." because its just now today that people are garnering support for homosexuals for example.

I agree with you on robots, and structural problems to unemployment that have nothing to do with "the rich" or taxes FYI. You cant tax people into jobs, and we're going to have a fuck ton of unemployed people going forward due to algos, robots, globalization, etc.

As soon as the fat cats drop down below 95 lbs, then I'll have a small amount of compassion for them. Otherwise, fuck off.

I read an article (I think it was in Rolling Stone) about how the "rich had to cut back" and one of the things they were doing was not having their pool serviced weekly, but instead once a month. Sorry, that is not suffering.

I don't complain. I have a nice house, and three cars for the two of us.

I believe there is a small percentage of people who are against the rich as defined by that +250k mark, however I believe most people are against "the above the law" super rich in this country.

I don't have a problem with most people worth even tens of millions, however there is a level of power and wealth that some folks have in this country that is simply bad for society.

The main problem with this letter is whether or not the rich are actually in jeopardy. What happened during the holocaust happened to many groups of often persecuted and easy to target people. Are the rich today vulnerable in the same way? I don't think so.

Its really nice that poor, non-achievers that build nothing and create no jobs, have a place to just be themselves.

You are all wise to leave the really tough stuff like creating companies, building companies, creating jobs and developing technologies to the capable. No real need to embarrass yourselves by trying... When you can just sit back and attack those who do, as if you're actually important and your voice matters.

It's also interesting by the way that you, the self proclaimed "good guys" who are pure and chaste and represent all that is good in the world can't seem to manage to build a business and employ people and do things "the right way".

I mean, it's so easy right?

You all know it all, you know all that is wrong.

You've collectively pinpointed every flaw in capitalism and have it all figured out ... Yet here you are....

Blaming others, whining, complaining and never once pointing to yourself and never once giving someone who worked 80hrs a week to chase his dreams the due he or she deserves and the respect they have certainly earned.

That's exactly like saying that because famous black performers existed in 1920, racism was a myth.

How were they "far right" LOL

Our countries "far right" are staunch defenders of Jewish rights and the Israeli state.

Our "far right" believe in SMALLER govt.

Our "far right" believe in LESS taxes.

You guys are so blinded by your idealogy that you can't see that Hitler would pretty much be a Democrat if he were in the United States in 2014.

Big govt.
No love for Israel
High taxes

EXACTLY what the Nazis did in their governmental ruling of Germany. Hell, they NATIONALIZED industry. (govt. takeover)

You guys can't even be taken seriously with these pitiful and historically inaccurate intellectual forays. You don't think before you type these things.

Why don't you tell us all which politicians in the 1930 and 1940's in the United States were FOR homosexuality Tony? Or even unions? FDR was the Pres. who made unions LEGAL in 1938...well into the Nazi's rule in Germany (and wrote that govt. itself must NEVER be unionized). But the majority of the Democrat and Republican parties were vehemently anti-union at that period.
So trying to compare society worldwide during the 1930's (before the war when the Nazi's were in power) to the year 2014 is just DUMB. Just like your whole statement on this subject.
Do some reading and learn some history.

I would think his intention was to draw the comparison of turning the masses against a relative few, while branding them as evil and the cause of all wrong in the world.

You'd have to be seriously detached from reality to think he was comparing the vilification of wealthy people to being murdered on a wholesale scale.

It's easy to manipulate society's bottom and get them to believe that the successful are responsible for all of their problems.
Look at some of the trash here who pay almost nothing in taxes, explain why their betters should pay vastly more.

its been like this since the beginning of time, the economy takes a plunder, the masses get poor, "Revolution" breaks out, shit seems different...

In reality it is in the nature of homo sapiens to blame their hardships on others and not their own laziness...factor in that the poor out-breed the rich and democracy and viola!

taking personal responsibility for ones failure is a rare trait in homo sapiens...wealth is seen as some finite resource and as a prerequisite for more wealth...

In reality people are not equal...c'est la vie motherfuckers, want better lives? work more and have less children

there is no denying where you come from plays a part in the ability to succeed. chances are a white male with well to do parents has a better chance of succeeding that a black male from the inner city. not to mention the black male has a much higher chance of not even seeing his 20th birthday and being witness to much more violence.

is it "rich" people's fault? no but to say everyone's reason for poverty is laziness is ignorant and incorrect.

That's the truth.

There is something that has gone really wrong in black culture in the U.S. where the young men are killing each other like a slaughterhouse.

I'm not sure what it's going to take to fix it. As a white guy, I don't think I'm even qualified to propose any ideas.

It's something that's gonna have to change from within.

Obviously, the black men who don't accept that kind of lifestyle CAN lift themselves out of it and achieve great things.
But the majority of black men in the inner cities never do. It's easy to get caught up in a cultural system. Growing up wanting to be the "rich" guy who deals on the corner and has all the hot babes instead of thinking about education and career.
Or growing up wanting to be a hip hop star or rapper.

It's a fucked up situation for inner city black youth in cities like Chicago.

This.

When the president dissolves congress and installs himself as our one and only leader then declares that all rich people should be wiped off the face of the planet then we can start comparing what is happening with some people being protesting against the actions of the rich to the German Fascists.

Keep in mind the reasons that Hitler did that in 1933. He also called for elections to bring in a newly elected reichstag.

The old ones were basically puppets of the French (who took full advantage of Germany after WW1)

That's what got Hitler to power to begin with...a desire of the German people to stop living under the boot of France and the other victors of WW1

It was totally a political move. A brilliant one at that.

But that isn't what the article was about at all anyway. You're kind of cherry picking the famous parts of Hitler's tyranny.

The article in question is a guy saying that the way the Nazi party targeted it's Jewish population and used the media to turn the masses against them in the early days (before the war and concentration camps, etc.) is somewhat similar to what the Obama administration and Democrat politicians are doing.

In both cases it's just a way for the party to get what it wants.

For the Nazi's it was to expand govt. takeover and nationalize most industries...oh wait a minute, that's sort of what the Democrat party is doing today! Maybe the guy has a point!

The CEO that occupied what is now my office in our new building had all the glass bullet-proofed. The door to my office was also bulletproofed with massive locks and hinges on it.

First thing I did before I moved in was have it all removed and added windows with screens and had the doors changed. I don't think he was any good with a pistol, I am.

I watched a documentary a while back about gangs in Little Rock. The story was actually about a guy who was in a gang and went to jail for 10 years then when he got out he started a program to help kids get out of gangs. As they interviewed a lot of these kids many of them were in their early teens and already had the attitude that they would never be allowed to amount to anything so their only option was to sell drugs. It was such a defeatist attitude that it was actually pretty sad. To be 13 and believe that your only choices were sell drugs, go to jail or get killed by a rival gang was crazy to me. There is clearly something wrong with the culture in some areas of this country. I don't know how to fix it, but it is pretty sad that it exists.

What kind of business was in that building before? I wonder if the guy was paranoid or if he had done some things to piss some people off.

One of many trademarks of lunatics.

When you have no reasonable or logical response to arguments put forward ... but find yourself past the point of no return in clinging to your odd and easily defeated views, you fabricate a new argument completely with false facts, implying things were said or suggested that weren't.

A weak attempt to shift direction and again attempt to position yourself as the "enlightened" one while cementing the belief in your own mind, that those who disagree with you clearly must be "brain washed". After all, why consider any view that conflicts with your own pre-determined narrative and that might cause you to actually think outside what is comfortable to you?

Not grammatically, as "you're" is a contraction.

You post infographics, article snippets, rhetorical questions and cute memes in response to multiple paragraph arguments. You then turn around and tell the other person that THEY are the sheep, regurgitating Fox News and Bill O'Reilly. You are so drunk on the Kool-Aid that you can't even form your own thoughts and opinions. You prove it in every thread you start like this (which is a lot.)

Where do you get your weed? I need to meet your supplier, I could make a killing.

It's funny that it's not hate to take from the poor, but it's hate if you take from the rich. Kinda the same as welfare for corporate America is not socialism but welfare for the poor is.. Odd how that works..
