I wanted to put Psycho as an honorable mention, but it's more of a horror movie IMO. Badlands, Natural Born Killers, Summer of Sam, Kiss The Girls, and a few others come to mind.

Not to mention there's only one person killed in First Blood.

Haha you're right, forgot about that. For some reason I thought he had killed a few more cops, but yeah it's only the one that fell off the chopper. He was asking for it anyway

I'd have to say that Henry: portrait of a serial killer is #1.

I really enjoyed the movie Switchback, with Danny Glover.

Serial Killer movies I thought were lame: The Watcher, Copycat, Zodiac.

Everyone tells me about it but I've never seen it. You honestly think it's in the same league as Seven?

Well, I very much really really like Seven, super good flick. But Henry wigged me out big time! It was hard to watch. Seven had that chess match thing going with a point to it all.

With Henry, there was no point or big plan to the murders, he was simply deranged psychopath with serious issues and the movie did a good job of portraying that. It wigged me out for days and days.

"The Ten Commandments"

of course you could argue that was mass murder not a serial killer

I was trying to think of the name of Switchback a few weeks ago and could not for the life of me think of it, or find it. Cheesy but enjoyable.

I see Zodiac was mentioned. Good. I prefer the ones based on true events.

Wouldn't mind seeing one made about David Carpenter, known back in the early 80's as the Trailside Killer. For those that still read actual books you might want to check out The Sleeping Lady. Pretty engrossing stuff. The fact that I passed through the bay area during the height of that guy's um, 'activities', kind of hits home for me.

Henry was a fucking amazing movie. I still list it as one of my favorites. Michael Rooker nailed the role. And the way it was shot, it wasn't so much a movie about a serial killer; it's more like you're a fly on the wall just watching this fucking lunatic.

Henry 2 sucked, for the record.

While Seven is an amazing movie and at times very disturbing and dark, to me, Henry is even darker and more disturbing. The reason is that in Henry there are no cops chasing a case. There is no whodunit aspect of the movie. Seven, at its core is a serial killer thriller, but Henry is just a character study of a guy who enjoys killing other people. It is haunting.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is a different type of movie altogether. It doesn't even seem like it was made for anyone's entertainment, it's more like a documentary. Seven and all these other movies, they're hollywood. They're entertaining. 'Henry' is not entertaining. At all. It's gruesome, disturbing, voyeuristic, perverted and it stays with you forever. More like Faces of Death than Freddy Kreuger.

I met Michael Rooker, creeped me out just shaking his hand.

For me it's got to be Seven. 'The behind the scenes' and 'bonus' features on the DVD make it an awesome purchase. I highly recommend.

I love the behind the scenes part where they talk about making the journals. The guy telling the story of how the Kinkos employees all looked at him strangely when he went to pick up the stuff he had the copy is hysterical.

Being somehow interested in overlooked movies Manhunter from Michael Mann was pretty intense. In fact one of the very few movies that is so disturbing one can't just grab a popcorn and say it didn't happen, it did.
