I remember when GoDaddy was the fair playing alternative to the crooks at Network Solutions...

But it seems the student has become the master.

They're sending me alarming looking emails that my domains have expired (which they haven't) and that I need to renew them now (which I don't until 2015), and that if I don't act fast they will throw in their $80 reactivation fee. They don't even hold these domains, I moved them to another registrar a while back.

I haven't received any of those from GoDaddy and I've had many domains with them for over a decade.

However, I have seen a bunch of bogus emails pretending to be from GoDaddy with the intent of phishing for account info. Are you sure it's not one of those?

ok.. here is what is going on. You can call it real information or conspiracy theory.

Godaddy and Walmart are screwing their customers.

Godaddy was the best deal for web related items and domains.
Give the people the "BEST" deals for many years of conditioning.
With years of conditioning, people will always go to godaddy no matter what because that is what they know.

Walmart: Offers the same products manufactured in China at a lower price for many many years of conditioning.
With years of conditioning, people will always go to Walmart no matter what because that is what they know.

Now the prices at Walmart are going up while they lobby with Monsanto to have all other food & retail outlets closed down after this Trademark by congress.
The people will have no other choice soon but to shop at Walmart to live.

Everything will be corralled into one order.

Godaddy really goes over the top with trying to upsell customers. I wouldn't be surprised if they have 10 screens now that you have to click "no thanks" to before you check out. Godaddy sucks.

At times I get calls from them where they leave vague messages implying I need to contact them about my domains as there is a problem. Then when I call it's just a sales call. Really lame.

Yea except there's many other better domain registers like namecheap, dynodot, register and so much more.

Go daddy can't possibly shut all those down.

Fuck GoDaddy. I have never used them and never will.

Here's my namecheap account.

Fuck godaddy, besides all other registrars, this is the one that i hate the most.

Luckly, after reading too many horror stories on the internet, i was smart enough to not register anything with them but it came one day when i saw a domain that i really liked at their auctions, the domain was registered also with them and it was a "BUY NOW" offer.

I have purchased the domain and then the show has been started: after waiting for 5 long days for the funds to be cleared, they didn't pull the domain automatically from the godaddy seller account, as they should - when the domains are under <999$ and i personally have to contact the seller(this was the part that i didn't wanted in the first place because i know that some don't respond, change their minds after showing interest etc)

Luckly, this time the seller was a serious person and immediately push the domain to my account.

Of course, after changing the whois details, it's impossible to not trigger that shitty 60 days lock. I have emailed them to remove the lock and they don't want to, they are asking me for all kind of legal papers for this procedure.

The domain would expire in the next month so well...i had to purchase a one year renewal fee.

Anyway...not the biggest deal, besides other people who lost their domains, but this was my case...

And what bothers me the most? They talk like a fucking bot, copy pasting the same standard responses which i told them in the first place that i read entirely on the site, is like i m talking with a fuckin bot!

I'm waiting those 60 days to pass and i will instantly fly with my domain from them

I just got this e-mail from WildWestDomains, GoDaddy's reseller corp. Apparently I'm being sued by Manwin for trademark infringement for a domain I don't even own, and is not even held with GoDaddy.

"This email is to inform you that Wild West Domains, LLC has received a properly formatted subpoena for documents in the following civil action: Manwin Licensing International S.a.r.l. v Does issued by the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, Civil Action No. CV-2013-5913 JAK (CWx). Our response to this subpoena may require us to disclose some of your personally identifiable information. Therefore, we are providing this notice as a courtesy to give you an opportunity to object to the subpoena. The only way to object to a properly filed subpoena is by filing an objection with the court in which the matter is pending. If you intend on filing an objection, please let us know within 3 business days. If we do not receive an objection notice indicating that you have filed or will be filing an objection, we will continue with producing the documents requested and may charge your account according to our registration agreement. Should you require additional time within which to file your objection with the court, please let us know.

In order to obtain further information related to the pending litigation or a copy of the subpoena, you may contact counsel for the requesting party as follows:

Well, after telling them that a confusion has been made because of their lack of attention and carelessness, maybe you should orient to a proper registrar with your remaining domains

Last year, I received something like that and it was due to an error from the attorney, not GoDaddy. Attorneys get sloppy when they submit cases against multiple does. It turned out they intended to go after the former registrant for a non-trademark issue, which is why they didn't have issue with me.

Have never owned the name in question or anything close to it. Its an obvious trademark infringement.

No idea how my name could have come up on their litigation radar.

Interesting. Do they send those to select customers? Because it did not happen to me. They start sending renewal emails 90 days before expiration date.
Might be something to do with the fact that in their system your domains expire withing 90 days? I mean before you transfered them out what was the exp. date?
Strange anyways because I do not remember getting these emails for transfered out domains. Glitch?

Godaddy has been fucking people over for years. It's nothing new and trying to buy a domain from them is like trying to sign up for a porn site with 50 xsales. You amount of shit you have to uncheck and avoid buying is just retarded. GD has always been shit..

The only good thing about godaddy is I used to get to harass their customer support people when they would randomly call me to see how I was doing. I used to always make them say the domains they were calling about. ( the domains were always adult related with fuck, ass ect..ect..) 8D

The only good thing that i can find is their auctions because they have so many domains.

Get what you like from their auction and run with that domain! )

Another maneuver of godaddy for example: if i spot a domain that i like on an expiring auction and i check the whois details for a couple of times, over the next days the whois of that domain will become hidden and if i ask them why they say they don't see any problem )

Check this site: antigodaddy (dot) com and i don't say to necessary believe everything is there but anyway that convinced me to not register anything with them.

Before this site, it was another one: fuckgodaddy (dot) com but after reading on the internet, they succeed to close it down

By curiosity only, try to search on their site for any available domain wich contains the godaddy keyword, what message you will get: "Sorry, that name is not available for registration. Please try again." )) No other registrar does that! only godaddy would not let you

Well, the email headers show that it came from the same mail server as known legit emails from them, all the links go back to godaddy.com, and they have my godaddy account information in them, plus knowledge that the domain was once hosted with them. So yeah, I'm pretty sure that it's not one of them.

Namecheap has been getting a lot of business from me lately.. How long before they end up shady too?

I've been a GoDaddy user for years without issue -- notwithstanding their crappy interface. I have accounts at multiple registrars, including Moniker, DynaDot, NameCheap, DirecNic, and a bunch of others.

However, I think my favorite registrar is one called NameSilo.com -- it's just a breath of fresh air using them. You don't need to hunt for coupons, whois privacy is included, DNS name servers there work fantastic, and the site is so damn well laid out and easy to use that I've been placing some of our domains there and, frankly, I'm quite impressed. If you're looking for a nice alternative, give NameSilo.com a look.

Namecheap are ok right now but i see that they are starting some major transformations, including their interface and, i don't know, but i don't spot something good.

I have some domains with them but i'm already starting to migrate to something more smaller which offer more competitive prices, namecheap is not cheap anymore.

What i noticed in general, as a rule of thumb, once a company becomes big and get some sort of monopoly, bad things are starting to happen: they don't care too much about their clients.

I mean, look at Faceb, Google then GoDaddy etc. what they use to be and how they are treating things right now.

The explanation is quite simple: If you go with your friends to a popular/crowded place to drink/eat something, you will immediately notice that things start to evolve more slowly - your food/drink comes a bit too late, their attention is split at too many tables and if you re unsatisfied about their service, they don t care to much, because they know that table will immediately fill with other new clients.

Despise this fact, people still go to crowded/popular places because hey, that's the crowd mentality - if everybody are there, then it must good/safe.

If you want to be treated like a king, go to a more smaller, new bar which is not so crowded and you will immediately see how they care more because their entire business still depends by every big or small customer.

Yeah, i remembered those spammy upselling emails by the first day that i became a member(to access godaddy auctions), i sent them a harsh email(something like even if they pay me, i won't register anything with them) about their spam, telling them that every registrar where i'm subscribed send me only expiration emails and from that day i didn't receive anymore shit )
