More US retailers hacked.

Besides Neiman Marcus there are 3 more retailers rumored to have been hacked. I was thinking the details on the hack on Target were being kept quiet for a reason. Was thinking other retailers had the same problem.

This is going to get worse, and it will be a huge problem. My card was shut down because of the Target crap, and it's changed the way we handle our money. I've always kept my money in multiple banks in case one account got hacked we could change over to another account instantly, but now we are using credit cards. I haven't had credit cards since before 2000 - Just don't need them. Now they have smaller amounts and would be shut off a lot quicker if compromised, and also limits our liability - without risking our cash in the bank.

I'd imagine the Neiman Marcus account info is much more valuable than Target account info due to the higher credit limits and the big spenders who might not notice a few unauthorized charges.

Cash in the bank is seeming much less safe now a days. Something tells me even one of those will be hacked soon.

I am wondering if it is already happening without them telling us.

Remember when that Arab bank was hacked and all the prepaid debit card limits were increased. People were sent out with cloned cards to drain ATMs worldwide.

Given enough time these European hackers will find more holes in more software. In my opinion, And I don't think the companies would go for it, We need higher bounties for white and grey hats. Make the reward greater than the trouble of stealing.

With all this going on why do people us debt cards linked to their own bank accounts?
If you debit card gets hacked your moneys gone, so what if you may get it back someday.
If your credit card number gets hacked you still have your money.

Some possible reasons include:

* Dumb - Some banks automatically sign up customers for debit cards, who don't think twice about using them.
* Greedy - Some banks offer rewards/points/incentives for using debit cards.
* Desparate - People with bad credit can't get credit cards, only debit cards.

Target issues 2 kinds of credit cards.
1- Good only for Target purchases.
2- If you have good credit, you get a Target branded Visa.
GF had a Target Visa with a 5 figure limit. Couldn't believe it. Glad we dropped it a few years ago.
A year ago her Mastercard got hacked. Wouldn't have caught it because of the high limit. Only spotted it as I was checking on the charges from a trip taken on the card a week before.

All i can say is that I am thankful that the government had to foresight to indemnify themselves lawsuits from against security breaches with healthcare.gov... in fact, the law says they don't have to even notify you when your data has been stolen... you know, for your own good. Because they are awesome.

I know, they don't even have to tell you the mandatory info you supply them is/was stolen.
