Your friend was most likely doing something illegal or got caught up a few years ago when the state wasn't so lenient . I know about 10 different people that either grow, sell to dispensaries or have dispensaries. they are not worried about the law at all. Federal law says its legal. Its not me saying it. Its the law. Go read up on it.

That is inaccurate and false. DEA has been heavy handed in CA. We had to evict a tenant in our San Diego building. There is no Federal law making it legal to grow or sell pot in ANY state, including Colorado and Washington.

I had a MMJ tenant that was completely by the book and we had to kick them out or face prosecution.

All the Fed has done is issue a statement that they are not going to pursue businesses operating legitimately under STATE law. California has lots of grey area in its state MMJ mandate which relates to compassionate use for medical patients. The fact that CA has no specific laws right now is a huge problem.

I would love to get into a venture like this but I keep reading how its already way to late to invest due to how fast the HASH's are growing. I would assume he's not getting involved in the details, and is just trying to save people $80/month per rig. It'd add an extra 1.5 days of profitability every month, so if he took half of that, he'd get $40/mo per rig he housed.

Not a great ROI for either party.

Incidentally, the major concern for rigs is cooling, not power. ASIC rigs with lower power costs will make this even less of an issue in the future (and it isn't much of one now).

If you are worried about the price of electricty just wait 'till you see the price of ASIC miners you need to mine bitcoins these days. Mine a different alt coin --scrypt it's cheaper to get started.

Also 200 amps is not as much as you may think. My miner room has 400amps and is sucking up every bit of it.

couple questions:
What coin are you thinking of mining?
Heat... how will you deal with it?
What kind of setup/rigs are you looking at?
At 200 AMPS you will need to remember to a lot some of that for lights and anything else that will be running at the location. Also things are going to get a little warm so extra AC will be needed.
(I've had 120 Encoding rigs in a 1000 foot office space years back and the staff were in shots in the Canadian winter..)

So make that 200AMPS and call it 120 - 150 once you factor in normal office use.
A couple AC units will just call that 20 AMPS
So say 100-130 AMPS for Mining
High end rigs pulling 2TH will eat 5-8AMPS each
So we are talking what 15-20 Miners max at that location (or less depending on what else is going on at that location.

Each miner will run say $6k to build to hit 2TH/s
6 * 15 miners = $90k
With an output of 30TH/s
If the difficulty rate didn't drop... :
You would be looking at say $8k in coin each month so say 12 months to hit profit line.
after 3 years you are looking at say $120-140k in profit..
That's if nothing bad happens over the next 3 years. *or anything great happens...*

200Amps is not that much, I mean we had our boards running at a facility and from what I remember with the current board design we had, psu, liquid cooling and well just keeping the place cool we had around 23-25Th which well at the current diff level is:

The expected generation output, at 25000 Ghps, given current difficulty of 27428630902.258 , is 0.458384335774 BTC per day and 0.0190993473239 BTC per hour, and well with 11 or so more days or less to the next diff swap..
