GameBoy Advance SP

Damn this thing is cool.

I managed to score a pre-release unit... the thing is smaller than the original GameBoy and folds like a two-way pager.

Frontlit screen, rechargable battery... and an old school control setup--personally, I think the current GBA resembles the GameGear a tad too much.

The lighting improvement alone makes it worthwhile, and literally, it is far easier on the eyes.

For $99, this thing kicks ass.

If I had an affiliate program, I would kick these out as incentives.

IMO, The Gameboy line never really caught up to the GameGear. Too bad the Nomad never really caught on.

That new unit is unique though, and rechargable batteries are a definate plus.

The screen on the original GBA is a joke.
Everyone who bought one (me being one) should be able to hand it in for one of those new ones...

Can somebody tell me how the shoulder buttons on this are? I have relatively large hands, around 23 cm, and wonder if it will be easy to use or a pain in the ass. I appreciate it.

The original Gameboy is the most popular gaming unit of all time. Over 100 million units have been sold worldwide since it's inception over almost 15 years ago now. Gear Gear couldn't even compete.

I just ordered one of these for my girl. That means that I get her hand me down, original GBA. Anyone installed an Afterburner light kit?

Game Gear never excited me much. I think I still have one in storage. I have a Nomad too, which was a really cool concept. It could play full-size Sega Genesis carts, or you could hook it up to your tv, plug in a controller, and use it as a regular Sega Genesis. Gameboy topped them all though, with a ton of great games, plus the ability to play all the games on your Super Nintendo with the adapter.

I'm glad I waited to get a Gameboy Advance, cause I want an SP. I knew they would do something like that. The last Gameboy I bought was the one with the full-color screen. Great for road trips.

They feel a bit close at first, but you adjust... it is a small system, but not in a bad way

the japanese version will play games from all regions, so it is all good!

when i first saw the thing i was a bit sceptical about the shoulder buttons, but they actually work fine (even if you have big hands!)

go get one!

Thanks AKFK, that is what I needed to know.

TechTV installed an afterburner one day, they should have it in the show notes at techtv.com. It did not look hard for someone with steady hands. Be sure to look for the little chip that adjusts the light level because installing the resistor seems to be the hardest bit.
