THe new Corvette

One of my friends took delivery this week and he brought it out to the plant for me to ogle, He got the LT3 with the z51 package. The picture I am posting is from the Chevy website. I didn't have my camera handy.
Anyhow, this is a seriously nice car. In person the rearend doesn't look as much like the Camaro as it does in pictures. The front and side view make you stare. Really sharp.
The interior was a full step up from the last Vette I rode in. Not Lambo or Ferrari quality, but this car went out the door fully loaded for 1/3rd the cost of either.
And I didn't see any compromise in the quality. Lots of carbon fiber. The roof is perfect.
I looked it over carefully and didn't see anything out of place.

Performance..It's very fast. It's a flappy paddle, so I didn't drive. But he had it to 124 in the length of the building. It's as fast, probably faster actually than my Lamborghini. The brakes seemed kind of harsh though. Overall I give this car very high marks. I'm probably going to get one.

Usually I am not a huge fan of Corvettes, but that is a beautiful car.... Corvettes look more like exotic cars than American muscle cars.

Funny you would mention that.. The fellow that owns this car does aftermarket carbon and molded intake stuff for Vettes. We make parts for him and he has a whole list of things we are going to produce for the new model. One of them is a large stainless steel oval exhaust like Lambo did on the 640. We are making the prototypes for that next week.

I just saw a review of it on the /Drive channel the other day. Looks pretty sweet for an American car, but that rear end... couldn't they have done it a bit better? Every other angle is sweet, but that ass...

It was my first opinion when I saw it. Looks like a Camaro. But in person it looks a lot better.
Of course that's subjective, but I was not a fan before I saw it.

I drive a 2013 Chevy Camaro 2SS/RS/1LE. It's fast and sticks to the road like crazy but it's nothing compared to a Tesla Model S. The one I really want is the Model S P85 but its about $80k. It is by far the fastest car I've ever driven and I promise you it's much faster than the fastest corvette.

I know... I like fast cars but I don't like small cars... one good thing though is that I promised myself that this one will (number 11) will be my last. Next one is a Tesla.

The Vette is faster and it brakes better.. You can find this information in a lot of places. I used Motortrend.

What's amazing is those numbers are in the same range as the 1/2M$+ hypercars.
I only spent about 20 minutes in it yesterday, but in town it felt good, actually comfortable. I know I could spend more hours it it than I can in my Lambo.

Saw that too. What's killer though is the emissions at 0.93 lbs/mile. Scary.

I've always liked the corvettes but have never owned one. I test drove a few. The price kept me away and so did the comfort level. Sexy and fun for sure but I was just never 100% sold on them.

mark, why do you portray yourself as a smart person when you always reveal yourself to fall for bullshit without ever even fact checking?

Tesla Motors implies that the Model S sedan effectively emits 176g of CO2 per mile driven, although we believe the power consumption estimate Tesla uses for these calculations ? 300 miles per 85 kWh consumed ? is unrealistic. Furthermore, unlike gasoline-powered vehicles, electric vehicles utilizing lithium-based batteries suffer charging inefficiencies of roughly 10% to 20% and often consume meaningful amounts of energy when they sit idle ? especially in cold weather.

If we incorporate charging and idle losses, using data provided by Model S owners, we calculate that the effective CO2 emissions of an average Model S are roughly 394 g per mile.

It gets worse: Other research shows the massive amounts of energy needed to create an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery results in effective CO2 emissions of 153g per mile over the life of a Model S battery, based on our assumptions.

When the CO2 emitted during the production of the battery pack are incorporated, we believe the total effective CO2 emissions of an 85 kWh Model S sedan are 547g per mile ? considerably more than a large SUV, such as a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which emits 443g per mile!

keep saving up for your performance car.

In performance it's not close at all. This Corvette will destroy a tesla on every level. And that I will promise you.
Don't get me wrong. I like the idea of the tesla. I wish they would be a bit more creative and design their own body, rather than just electrify a lotus and an A-M. Also, look up battery life/distance in cold weather. It's not great. Even in normal warm weather you can't take them anywhere. A trip across the country would be epic. Drive 200 miles then charge over night.

If you want to get excited about the future of green automobiles..think hydrogen.

hah, driving an electric car in canada is even worse due to their grid's reliance on coal

For the same electricity generated, Canadian coal plants emit at least twice the GHGs as new natural gas plants and twenty-times more than the average of all of Canada’s other power sources. By not recognizing and internalizing the costs of carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere artificially hide the true costs of coal power.

The existing fleet of coal plants in Canada also emit large amounts of toxic and noxious gases, particularly sulphur dioxide and mercury. Indeed, coal plants emit over 60 per cent of the mercury emissions in the three heavily coal-reliant provinces, including over 75 per cent in Saskatchewan, where coal plants also emit over 85 per cent of sulphur dioxide emissions in the province.

Coal power is a big contributor to toxic air pollution and GHGs, and provinces that burn a lot of it — Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia — have the most polluting electricity systems in the country. These three coal-powered provinces alone emit the most GHGs per kilowatt-hour of electricity, with Alberta’s grid five-times more carbon-intensive than the national average.

you implied I only drove a vette because I couldn't get a lambo... yes I can't afford a lambo right now however I don't believe I would ever pick up an exotic , I can afford a Porsche but really I see them as well.... ugly little cars. heard nothing but nice things about porches just have no interest at all.

exotics just won't go where I like to drive, vettes will and by that I mean out in the woods on fire roads etc ... vettes will. you need to be careful though

what I really like about vettes is American muscle... a vette will drive around town all day without ever cracking 2K on the tach if you should choose and NEVER, EVER be lagging... I loves me some fucking torque

What's the on the road price in America - I don't understand the pricing with taxes etc? Starts from £61,495 in the UK ($99,437).

exotics just won't go where I like to drive, vettes will and by that I mean out in the woods on fire roads etc ... vettes will. you need to be careful though

what I really like about vettes is American muscle... a vette will drive around town all day without ever cracking 2K on the tach if you should choose and NEVER, EVER be lagging... I loves me some fucking torque
.I have said that I've never been a fan of corvettes. They always got something wrong.

That's changing. This new version is as right as a car needs to be. Cost not being part of the equation this is a really good car. It should be a $300k car. It's that good.

I agree corvettes are great... always been billed as the 'everyman's race car' and rated against cars that cost 70% to 150% more....the vette has had issue for sure however bang for buck.... I had a 2004 c5, hands down the best car I ever had... drove it for 7 years... just a few issues in that time... crank chip and cam chip needed to be replaced... had 140K on the car when I moved over to the ctsv... the vette was deff rattling etc but the main issue I had with the car was 'outdated electronics'... I like all the flashy fun stuff in the dash, like onstar etc...

I will get the c7 as soon as I can get a supercharged with auto trans

lots of nissan350 and old acura nsx influence in the front...looks like a nissan to be honest...the 1970-s stingray is probably the most beautiful car in the world IMO but this one is like the new camaro...a total design disappointment...

even in pics the car is gorgeous, they knocked it out of the park with this one. wow.

the only *wtf* for me design-wose was the fact that the tail lamps are not round, but srsly no biggie and i like the controversy of the styling.

and i teased a bit about the rear suspension. but obvioulsy the c7 is a seriousy sorted out car.

Of course that's subjective, but I was not a fan before I saw it.
i don't like that car in blue, in green would kick ass.

what in the fuck are you going to do with a car like that anyway? lease a track like as pictured to compete in races for cash or women? or just drive it around town at a snails pace, never ever fulfil the cars purpose, and own and drive it just for eye candy?

have you done any illegal street racing minte?

I live in the country. So my version of street racing is probably different than yours.
My wife took this from our Lamborghini. I've done a few stoplight - stoplight things over the years when I had the E55amg but am not really a fan of that. Where I drive fast about the worst that can happen is I might hit a deer..or a tree.
