Well they tried to take over the world twice, I don't think they will try a third time so what's the harm?

(I love Germany, they have beer, sausages, they buy my porn and my sister lives there)

i don't think that's the point - the point is that Germany is besides the UK and France the biggest NATO ally and you usually don't spy at least on the head of governments of your closest friends

I wish the rest of the world would come together and send some nukes to the USA. The only problem is that some of my sites are hosted there.

I would also be pissed.

It's time that the rest of the world shows the US Gov to fuck off with their manipulating games.

No offense, I love the US and friends but the US Gov goes to far in tricking their own people and the rest of the world

How does the NSA spying on Germany, Brazil, Mexico and France solve problems? In Brazil the NSA was spying on the oil industry. Mexico, multiple presidents. Germany the same. France it was millions of emails. And on and on..

This has nothing to do with terrorism or national security.

Brazil pissed, Germany pissed, Holland doesn't care.

Nothing will change. Instead of giving Snowden asylum and protect him, he will be arrested if he sets 1 step in Europe and he will be transported to the USA.

What would the USA do if they found out that Merkel for instance fucked another politician. Would they use that information for blackmailing? Maybe so that Germany will buy a JSF fighter? Offcourse they will.

But nothing will change. THe NSA is tapping everyone. And it will only go further and further. How can it be stopped?

I think it is time Europe starts spying Obama and everyone working in the whitehouse so we can see how they are spying on us. Let's start a cold war. And maybe there are juicy details, like Obama likes darkrooms or also has Banga Banga parties in the white house with Berlusconi.

First thing that crossed my mind: Why was a important world leader using a phone that was traceable on a cellular phone network?

Like; I was using my iPhone on T mobile or Vodafone ... An Anonymous Hacker is more clever apparently ...

Probably, only the numbers called were swept into the NSA's snooping -- this is not phone tapping in the common meaning -- the listening in on conversations.

Google wont let me use my alias nickname any more, displaying my real name that I gave them (mistake I know) why is this -- to make the NSA's job easier? Same thing really.

Don't use Google Mrs. Merkle ...

The german government uses encrypted phones btw - but how safe is it when the NSA eventually forces the manufacturer to hand over the keys

I"m very glad that Snowden did what he did and the rest of the world is standing up for themselves. The NSA and the US federal government is out of control.

Elaborate. I also gave my name (when signing up or adsense), where is my name used instead of nickname?

nsa is into all levels of encryption
there is no keeping them out.
you can try not to be the lowest hanging fruit, that is about it.
if you are on their list of priority targets...you are not hiding anything from them.

These guys compile info for many reasons..most of them are not harmful, just data compilation. some are for blackmail though....that is where it gets tricky

Domestically, within the United States, phone companies (carriers) have historically provided law enforcement with telephone records upon request in criminal investigations -- obtaining warrants (if even used) for this is relatively easy as no privileged or protected information is revealed -- call records are available to communications company personnel on an as need basis.

A lot of this is really "Drama."

I have a sign on my desk, it says: Tapped! Reminds me how secure my VOIP phone is even with the SIP protocol encryption ...

I find it hard to believe that the German government uses devices that any foreign government could obtain the encryption key for (Or any government official at that level for that matter) ...

germany had to react to the news, what are they going to do, ignore it and looks like they don't care?

of course not, the news came out and they had to act outraged, regardless of everyone spying on everyone.

they are prolly actually more pissed about the usa getting caught doing it.

i think the germs should boot the usa out of their country over this and assume their right to spend 100s of billions of francs on their own military instead of leaving protection of their country up to the usa.

no, not saying that.

i have no idea who they are protecting y'all from, again, it's not my policy, i don't like it.

but there are 2 things here:

1. the spectre of ww2 still lingers in some.

2. the usa has had an obligation to offer military coverage to germany since ww2 and the peace treaties.

Having called for "unconditional surrender" by the Germans, the Allies forbade Germany from fielding a standing army. And to protect against the rise of another power against Germany, and to ensure that Germany did not violate the military strictures imposed, the U.S. -- under the banner of the newly created North Atlantic Treaty Organization -- stationed as many as 500,000 troops in Europe with the largest contingents in Germany.

I think he's referring to nukes, though it's my guess that both Germany and Japan could develop their own nukes virtually overnight if either or both felt the need to do so.

i think Germany is where they fix their toys over there when it is needed?
Fix up the soliders etc.
i could be wrong, but it it basically a support base now for the middle east.

it isnt really needed in Germany for what it was originally intended.

again, the germans have to act upset. they can't not act about it. but imo it's silly to think we are not being spied on at the same time. we just got caught, too cavalier, which is what the germs are prolly the most miffed about.

As an American, now citizens of the world can feel the pain of how horrible our government is.

At the end of the day, our government is big & intrusive, it's even worst in CA, another super liberal state with a massively big govt.

This guy in office, Obama... he's all about making the government bigger. He'll tell you a nice story how about how he's helping everyone out, and he believes in a collective society and that government plays a central role in all all that. That rich people need to pay more taxes and that we need to expand entitlements beyond their craziness right now. He's basically telling everyone that the government is too small and needs to be bigger.

And right when you are about to buy that line, remember... shit like this happens. The government isn't nice, it's not efficient, the money they raise doesn't always go for how it's intended, and generally, they fuck everything up because they aren't incentivized by the right things. His healthcare website, that really has gone over well, it's because the government is amazing at building websites.

So next time you think about Obama and increasing the size of the govt, that you buy the bullshit they spew on TV how he's looking out for everyone, then go back and look at the metrics of his presidency and he's basically shaping up to be as bad as George W. The only thing he has done correctly is hit up some social issues, like gay rights, and even then, he played politics with it.

just brushing up on the topic, here is a blurb that makes sense to me:::::

Europe?s Defense Spending: A Cause for Concern

In 2012, just four of the 28 NATO members?the U.S., Estonia, the United Kingdom, and Greece?spent the required 2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) on defense. France fell below the 2 percent mark in 2011, and there is concern that the U.K. will do so after 2015.

The 2011 air campaign in Libya also demonstrated Europe?s military weakness. What started off as a French?U.K. military operation had to be quickly absorbed into a NATO operation because Europe did not have the political will or military capability (without the U.S.) to see the mission through to completion.[1] Regarding Europe?s contribution to the Libya operation, former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates summed it up the best:
However, while every alliance member voted for the Libya mission, less than half have participated at all, and fewer than a third have been willing to participate in the strike mission. Frankly, many of those allies sitting on the sidelines do so not because they do not want to participate, but simply because they can?t. The military capabilities simply aren?t there.[2]

This is mainly the result of a decrease in defense investment by the members of NATO since the end of the Cold War and the lack of political will to use military capability when and where it is needed.

The decline in Europe?s military capability should be a serious concern for U.S. policymakers. However, Europe?s military and defense decline is no excuse for the U.S. to reduce its own capabilities. The U.S. has unique security interests around the European region that require a robust U.S. force presence regardless of Europe?s military capabilities.

welcome to 1945

just an update - the only US troops in Germany today (like in Ramstein) are for their wars in Afghanistan and Iraq

there are no US troops in Germany to protect anybody from anyone since the 1990ties

and Germany has a full blown army, navy and airforce since 1958

of course not, the news came out and they had to act outraged, regardless of everyone spying on everyone.

they are prolly actually more pissed about the usa getting caught doing it.

Christ you're fucking retarded.

now welcome to the 1970ties/1980ties - we're getting closer

i remember from my childhood how hundreds of thousands of people went on the streets to demonstrate against nuclear weapons (Pershing 2) that the US wanted to station in Germany against Russia

but we have 2013 and according to Wikipedia there's only one place left where nuclear weapons are stored (thanks to Wikileaks we know about that now) and even those are supposed to be returned soon.

and lets not forget - the US and Germany are NATO allies - not opponents

i got a lot closer with the post i made above re: euro defense spending and nato, illustrating the lack of germany resources spent on defense, not even the required 2%. and also the lack of ability in the libya crisis.

not saying we don't have interests we are interesting in protecting over there, but the fact is the fact, europe can't defend itself by itself.

Ever heard the term 'Never argue with a pig. It just frustrates you and irritates the pig'?

I have better things to do than to sit here for hours debating with someone that obviously has the mental capacity of a 10 year old.
