My mums work got infected. They are a huge plc and it got in and infectd server after server, emails and every file was encrypted.
Luckily they backup regularly and all they lost was a few hours productivity but it was a real bitch to remove.

Nasty virus.

Just another reason not to be an idiot and open weird attachments in emails. Seriously, how stupid do you have to be to get infected with something like that? I don't even run antivirus on most of my machines and never have a problem because I use a little common sense. Unless you're downloading and running pirated software from nefarious sources all the time it seems pretty hard to get infected these days.

This isn't true at all.

Sometimes even the best anti-virus fail.
The company I referenced is a multi million dollar company with hundreds of employees. They had upto date anti virus on every machine yet still got infected by Crypto Locker.

How it happened, I don't know but when you have hundreds of computers open to the internet you leave yourself vulnerable.
Acting cocky is easy until it happens to you. Besides, you don't have a hundred employees to keep tabs on.

Wow haha. I actually found a blackhat forum with a user selling a virus similar to this. But instead of making the user pay, it locks his computer with a survey locker.

Lmfao. Looks like a good investment.

Yeah, because MACs never get a virus, RIGHT?

The reason why windows gets viruses is because the vast majority of the people use Windows. No sense writing a virus for an operating system that so few use.

After half a year without any antivirus I've gotten 0 viruses or malware but now in the last 2 months with a premium antivirus installed I've gotten infected with a nasty malware (not this one, thank god) 3 times. From where? From the fucking tubes with their pop-unders! One of them came from PornHub the others I don't know.

I highly recommend MalwareBytes Anti-Malware better than any anti-virus, It saved me 2 out of 3 times.

It's pretty fucking stupid to not use any AV-software. It's free and you never know when someone might find another security-hole in Windows and infect your computer without you executing any files.

Ya of course. My point is one if those employees probably did something stupid to get infected in the first place. I have to look after the computers here at work and of course run antivirus on them all, but they still end up infected once in a while. It's always user error by people doing stupid shit. I had one employee forward me an email with a zip file from a bank we don't deal with asking me if I knew anything about it. Just delete it you dumb bitch! And actually we have 80 employees. Not all use the computers, but about half do.

Maybe I'm just lucky but the last time that happened to me was before windows had a built-in firewall.

Here is the link to the stand alone prevention tool that will block it from running at the root level an changing your files...it's a must if you're running Windows. Typical antivirus proggys are not a sure bet on keeping it from your system as the virus is being changed constantly and the virus definitions and your update clients aren't always hand in hand with the change. I run a PC business and trust me, you don't want this on your system.
