Program to recover data on an unbootable drive?
My hard drive crashed on me yesterday, got some error when trying to boot up about "invalid media on drive c:" I tried all I could to get it working again but not as hard as I would have like because I figured I was ruining data with everything I tried.
So I went to the store, bought a new 60gb HD, placed that in there as a master, loaded windows on it, connected the old hard drive as a slave, attempted to open it from My Computer but got a "disk not accessible". I searched google a bit and found PowerQuest: Lost & Found. Too bad they dont even support that product anymore, it was'nt easy finding a copy of it. But I did, loaded it through DOS, it scanned that old drive and showed the files which I could recover and place on the new hard drive. Unfortunately I am not retrieve the main photoshop files of some work I have been doing the past couple of weeks, I have the gif files of all the files but I really need those photoshop files. They were shown on the program but listed as a grey color and "non recoverable". Well that entire folder and about 50 more. Are there any other programs that is able to do this? That might be able to recover these and some other files... I appreciate ur help in advance ![]()

Anyone else know of a program if this does not work?
I'm tempted in trying the "dropping out of window down two stories" method, but only as a last resort.

Look in to a data recovery lab, probably run you about 500 but they should be able to get most data back, depending on the extent of the damage done. |

The problem was with the boot sectors. I dont have $500 to throw down on a recovery lab at the moment, i even got quotes from a few and some were asking up to $2k! The files important yes, its basically a long couple weeks worth of pain staking photoshop work... i'm willing to take my chances with this here

yeah, those places usually charge by a certain data measurment, like $100/meg of recovered data. they can be very pricey. but, they're very good at it.
the funny thing is... if the data really is that important, you don't have a choice ![]()

Well I used this Ontrack program named Easy Recovery Pro.
I managed to get some important files and a few photoshop files...but the main photoshop file that I needed was unrecoverable :/ My fault for not making a backup, but oh well. At least I have the sliced images already uploaded to a server..only problem is I cant edit them with photoshop of course. GOOD thing is..the site was done..aka ipaysite.com :c) So there will be a slight delay in its opening, need some days to get everything together. You guys should like what I have in-store for this site, its pretty damn kick ass ![]()
