Amazing that the Republicans did what the Occupy Movement couldn't...

Quote:
The House Republicans? approach to Obamacare continues to typify the current ?golden age? of dysfunction in Washington. Since gaining control of the House in 2011, Speaker John Boehner has presided over 40 separate votes that would do everything from fully repealing the law, to prohibiting the IRS from funding it, to delaying pieces of it.

The New York Times recently estimated that the House has spent an astonishing 15 percent of all of its time on the floor focused on repeal ? a span that amounts to over $17 million of Republican members? salaries since 2011, based on numbers from the Congressional Research Service.

Republicans in the Senate, themselves dysfunction experts, know this repeal effort is not going anywhere. As GOP Senator Richard Burr (NC) explained, ?Listen, so long as Barack Obama?s president, the Affordable Care is gonna be law? I think some of these guys need to understand that.? And Ted Cruz, who is immersed in an Obamacare boondoggle of his own, has called them ?empty symbolic votes [that] had zero chance of passing.? (He would know.)

Indeed, the House GOP needs Burr, Cruz, their 42 Republican colleagues, and 16 additional Democratic Senators in order to pass a repeal bill. And that?s before President Obama would even get a chance to veto.

What?s worse, though, is that House Republicans acknowledge the legislative futility of their efforts and continue anyway. Just last week GOP Conference Chairwomen Cathy McMorris Rodgers conceded that it is ?probably not realistic? to repeal the law, but vowed to continue offering bills that attempt to do just that.

With all this focus on repealing Obamacare, it?s worth considering the legislative agenda put forth by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in his February 5 speech ?Making Life Work? to see how much progress House Republicans have made on their own priorities. Despite Cantor outlining a number of policy proposals in the speech, just two bills have been voted on and none have become law.

Each of the votes against Obamacare is not only a fruitless attempt to undo a law that Congress passed and the Supreme Court upheld. It also represents a conscious effort to allow women face higher premiums than men, to let insurance companies discriminate based on pre-existing conditions, and to deny coverage to Americans. A number of Republican members that have continually voted for repeal represent counties across the country whose citizens would benefit the most from the provisions in the health care law.

When we lived over in South Africa I ended up in hospital at the age of 16 and had to have an operation which cost my parents a hell of a lot of money because they had no " Free health care" like we do over here in the UK.

We also have the choice of going private if we wish, It is a very good system for people who cannot afford to pay health insurance and you never end up with huge bills no matter what you go to hospital for. I dont mind paying a little of my earnings even if I raley use the hospitals at least I know somebody else who might need it can use it. Its all about give and take

I'm sure Minte, Robbie and all the others will still find a way to blame Obama.. However for the rest of the world, this is the kind of shit Republicans are doing to keep the govt closed.
This clip clearly demonstrates how this government shutdown is 100% owned by the Republicans... Period. Case closed.

US needs a permanent time out from Empire World. Obviously a fuck up.

This is about brinksmanship with countries the US is at political war with. The actual citizens of the US mean very little to elected official until its election day. Then political parties hack the ballots and pretend we have a democracy.

i love how everything is about party politics, and the public eats it up... all these assholes in washington and their big company and banker contracts are to blame for the complete mess of the economy... partisan pissing contests exist as a smokescreen for we, the people, to blind us for the truth: They are all in it to grab every cent and ounce of freedom you got left.

Small group of extremists? 31% of citizens aged 18 and up? They number more than the entire population of the country you are in now. There are ruling political parties in many European countries that have less than 31% support.

The fact is, both sides have legitimate grievances. But..... look how quickly they all came to the table like eager dogs when it was time to rashly and prematurely attack Syria. The differences disappeared like magic.

Plus, my intelligent and capable friend, please don't rely on the media for all your facts. They would have you believe everyone is this industry is a very bad person and we all know that isn't true.

yeah, they're running the country because they gerrymandered the living shit out of districts to get the seats they needed. It doesn't matter anyway. No amount of political fuckery on their part will allow them to keep those seats in the 2014 elections, after this royal miscalculation on their part. They really have fucked themselves.

have you seen some of the idiots who captured seats in Congress? One of them was a career Santa Claus who decided to run for a seat.

Keyword, gerrymandering. However, Dims are hellbent on giving away entitlements (food stamps and free health care for example)and citizenship to illegal immigrants so they are not in a bed of roses either. Both sides suck afaic.

The democrats lost the house due to gerrymandering, not Obamacare. If it was due to Obamacare they would have done worse in the senate and Obama would not have been reelected. You can't gerrymander the senate or the whitehouse, the fact that the democrats control both says a lot. The proof of this is that actual republicans are now being gerrymandered out of their districts by the same teabaggers and many are terrified of being primaried by nutjobs in artfully carved districts that very much do not represent the will of the majority now that primaried has become a verb.

The house was not elected to default on existing us debt... by anyone. The house was not elected to damage our credit or standing in the world. The house was not elected to shut the government down. The fact that they view those sorts of things as 'tactics' with no consequences of their own shows just how little they understand about world markets. I hope they are so evil that they are doing this as some kind of very deep game ploy with a brilliant political outcome... Because so far it looks like they are being overrun by borderline retarded people who do not understand the political process, the will of the nation or the impact of their failed gamesmanship.

Whether you are for or against Obamacare, the way the house is handling things is ridiculous... and their sound bites are either cynically crafted to dupe morons who vote or are a window into their own stupidity. Neither possibility gives me much confidence in them.

They have been planning this for a long time. If ACA goes thru people will want it, they know that because it was their plan. It was the Dole plan against hilary care. If it truly was terrible for the country they would let it roll on thru because then another Dem anything wouldn't get elected for 30 yrs.
They are holding the good faith and credit of this country hostage, its really treason.

That's why you have to have at least two competent and reasonable parties. This keeps the far wings from becoming the norm. The problem is due to the gerrymandering of the right for the house, the extreme wing of their party is becoming the norm because even with the bat shit crazy that is elected, they risk no real competition for their seats.

The check and balance stops functioning when we cease to have two competent and "reasonable" parties. Right now the Republican Party is on the edge of being incompetent, perhaps they are already over the edge, as evidence of the infighting between their own party. The problem with this, is if the left has no real challenge, it will also be bad for us as the far left would have little restraint, which is just as bad as the far right running the Republican Party,

how can you be ashamed of something you have no control over? And according to your theory every race should be ashamed because every race have had their share of genocide, slavery, dictatorship, etc. In conclusion, it doesn't make any sense what you just said.

I'm really surprised that you guys have missed the real meat of that article:

"Instead of honouring its duties as a responsible leading power, a self-serving Washington has abused its superpower status and introduced even more chaos into the world by shifting financial risks overseas," but equally stoked "regional tensions amid territorial disputes, and fighting unwarranted wars under the cover of outright lies" the commentary said, referring to Iraq."

The fact is that BOTH parties are completely responsible for these issues. The selling of US debt and US inflation overseas, the lack of any budget passed since 2008, the continuing wars and bombing going on for the last 14 years without a break, etc...

A simply shutdown of 17% of the US Federal government would be no big deal if we didn't have the long and continuing issues of complete irresponsiblity on the part of both Dems and Reps going on for decades....

Obamas position? i think thats both sides position, so quick to point fingers without thinking Minte, i would have expected better of you. Shit the Republicans even made it so NO other republican can get things rolling.... who is really saying "fuck you give me exactly what i want"
