Hey DynaMo - Scored!

An older gentleman owned this. He was very good friends with Les. The guy passed away last year and his grandson ended up with it. He doesn't play, so decided to sell it.
It's never been played and is a 10/10. Custom shop R9, IT came with the brown case which Les also signed.

Sorry, but I learned my lesson here.. I am never discussing prices on anything again.

It's a really nice guitar. I am extremely pleased to be able to add it to my collection.
It fills out the Les Paul section.

Congrats, Minte! That is an amazing beautiful guitar. Available for rental? I promise not to get anything sticky on it.

Seriously, congrats. A guitar worth having. Nice legacy behind it. Must be worth thousands if not tens of thousands.

Guitar Info
Your guitar was made at the
Nashville Plant, TN, USA
approximately in: 1999 or 2009

Gibson: Nashville
Gibson’s Nashville plant was opened in Tennessee 1974. All electric models and some acoustic models currently made at this factory. This facility has an average production rate of 220 guitars a day. Each guitar is built by hand and takes about 4 to 6 weeks to complete.

It's a 2007..the 521st R9 made that year.

The case is put away.. I spent about an hour and a half today with the R9 and it is really fantastic.

oh., so you're playing it! dang. right on. i'd play that too actually. hah, are you going to cover that autograph up with some clear plastic? some of the gits i've eyeballed have that over the autographs.

i bet your local plastics factory has something, just look for a factory with a fountain out front!

anyhoo, what a score. that's how a collection is done.

speaking of collectable guitars, was watching an auction for the ubre rare eric clapton crossroads es-335, it was blasting along then vanished before it ended.

also, currently hot rodding a guitar, the inspiration is the es-300 series.

Fortunately the signature is well out of the way for me. I did dust it all off and gently went over it with the cloth. He used a sharpy to sign and it seems to be on good.

I was just reading about that Clapton 335 the other day..That would be something to have.

Looking forward to seeing how your project turns out.

oh, yah, i see why he signed there now, got it. hah, smart. i've yet to get into the les paul's, none of my current guitar heroes play one, they all play variations on a hollowbody or a strat. i'm sure it's coming though, hah. i did eyeball an ace frehley budakan les paul that gave me a bit of glossy eye but haven't gone toa full solid yet.

i am interested in les paul and the history of that guitar though, i read that his proof of concept was a fencepost with some wire on it, pretty cool.

holler if you have a les paul documentary you recommend, i'll be looking for one.

This came stock with the BB's. I've tried the classics a few times in a music store, but that wasn't really enough to decide. The last Les Paul I would consider adding is a Gibson Custom 1954 Les Paul Goldtop VOS with P-90's. It's not carved in stone that I will pass on something else, but the radar is turned off now for a while.

I'm speculating that in this case the grandfather was friends with Les Paul and decided to buy this guitar as an investment and asked Les to sign it so that in the future the value would climb.

He made a good decision. Les Paul passed away shortly after he signed this one.

I weighed it last night, and it came in at 8lbs 11oz. I agree, even though they are just a bit heavier than a Tele..they sure seem to be a lot more. I'll never take this one out on a gig though. And when I do play out I have a wide strap with padding for the LP.

right on, a p90 les paul gold top sounds pretty sweet too eh. lolz

i've got a bb 1 on my short list for the neck pickup on my es-300 project, but even used they are more expensive than their symour duncan counterpart so i'm prooly going that route, i like the sound clips i've heard of both.

i was reading up on some les paul's a while back, if i recall, the mik les pauls from the late 90s early 00s weighed-in at over 10 lbs!

so would an american-made les paul be the gibson guitar to start with for someone who has never owned a gibson or a les paul?

I really don't understand why a few ounces makes so much difference hanging over a persons shoulder.... but I know from experience that it does. Most of the LP's made in the last 20 years come in around 9 lbs.

The white LP in my collection is a studio model. the biggest difference is there is no binding on the body. PUPS & the rest of the hardware is pretty much standard Gibson stuff.
You can snag a real nice studio for around $1,000 anywhere. Until you know if you like them, it's a great place to start.

My guess is you can beat them down a bit more..

i'll keep my eyes peeled, i like the concept of the gibson *studio* gits but the ones i've looked always had something important missing, like a 2nd pickup....

i'm progressing pretty good learning too-

check it- clapton! the remaining 8% bit is the crazy part of the lead, it's insane how the lead on this just keeps building- argh!

You are progressing nicely in a short time!

That studio I posted was just the first one that popped up. I was a little off on new prices. Most of them are around $1500. which is still a good price on a highend LP.
One thing I have noticed about LP's.. Either go to a store and play a bunch of them or just order one online and don't compare it to any others. Lp's are all a little different.
With the three of them I already had, I could grab one blindfolded and immediately recognize which one it is.
