Mayweather Vs Alvarez, who else thinks it was a draw?

Mayweather Vs Alvarez, who else thinks it was a draw?

Just curious, boxing seems to be an absolute shower of shit these days, with bad calls and biased referees/judges.

The fight wasn't great at all, neither man made the other stumble, nobody got knocked down, and there was certainly no winner (by true defeat). So why shouldn't it have been a draw?

I understand the controversy over the judge who scored it a draw, but let's face it, nobody actually "won" that fight did they? No!

What are your thoughts?

Mayweather clearly won more rounds, to say it was a draw because no one got knocked down is crazy.

Don't get me wrong, I know boxing and agree with you. Maybe I'm just getting fed up with the way things seem to be going currently. I can't remember the last time I watched a fight that didn't in some way, end in contoversy.

I'm not going to go further than that until more people comment, I just want to get a feel for what people think of the fight, and other recent high profile matches.

I thought what Teddy Atlas said post-fight about the female judge was interesting...
but anytime a fight goes to the score cards, there is a risk of questionable scoring

Booooorrrrriiiiiiiiinggggggg!

okay they're both great athletes but this is suppose to be a fight not a dance.

mayweather is fighting to walk away with the check and the W that is all.

honestly I pretty much stop watching boxing and watch MMA nowadays
boxing should cut the rounds down and figure out a way to make it more exciting

but regardless of that no it was definitely not a draw Mayweather definitely landed more punches

I know it was a shutout and I only watched 4 rounds. If the judge didn't see it that way then something's wrong.

What I've never really understood is why boxing values boxers over punchers to the extent that it does. I know it's a science and everything, but a lot of back foot boxers (Mayweather included) just look like cowards half the time. That said, Danny Garcia in the earlier bout was superb, boxing on the back foot but aggressive with it.

Well MMA sort of has the same problem and the scoring system is based on boxing largely. What it is is that you have judges who value different things and see things differently. For example one might consider power punches the most significant thing in the fight. Another might care more about who seems to be going forwards versus backwards. Another might care most about damage done. With MMA 90% of issues are related to how they score a takedown in relation to other things.

I only watched the first round entirely and most of the second round. I skipped ahead and only watched parts of the other rounds when I saw it was going to be boring. But I was tempted to give round one to Alvarez myself. Compubox stats don't always tell the full story.

Someone on Sherdog made a suggestion that I think is possible. They mention the odds for a majority decision were 21:1. That is a good point in that one judge has a lot of influence there and could potentially give someone a nice payout if they were corrupt. It would be easy to do.

have to beat the champ, can't win on points unless its VERY obvious... even a draw would need a challenger clearly winning on points.

Mayweather yes, very fucking boring. Yeah, he's never lost, he's at the top of the game, but the excitement factor only occurs when one hopes to see his defensive-ass get knocked the fuck out.

I'd rather watch a master of offensive than defense.

Plus Mayweather has been an real ass at times.

Watch especially after 2:20. I got a kick out of Mayweather telling Larry Merchant at 80 years old "you won't do shit!"

so funny to read the comments ...

Im a huge Canelo fan, were talking fan.. i been watching him since he was 17 he's a very very legit boxer with a record of 43-(1)-1 fighting top guys..

I was in the mayweather camp for this fight... I can't stand mayweather at all... I used to be a hater on mayweather until you just have to be real with yourself... Mayweather is just that good.. his speed is that which I've NEVER seen, his reaction times on punches is incredible.. I know none of you are boxers so now just think of someone standing in front of you and you just can't hit them... no matter what you try you just can't....

MAYWEATHER IS JUST THAT GOOD he makes a 43-0 World Champion look like a 6-4 amateur golden glove boxer...

talk all the shit you want.. there is not a boxer on the planet in any of floyds weight classes that could touch him.. even manny... manny could not touch floyd ... everyone blames floyd on the fight not happening but people in the boxing world know it's just as much manny fault as floyd's fault...

There have been 2 fighters to give floyd a run for his money....

Shane Rocked him in the 5th bad with an overhand right...

and the closest to a defeat he's come was a prime Zab Juddah. Zab beat him for 6 rounds until roger stormed in the ring after a low blow..

Zab trained for danny garcia with me at the UFC Gym when I was manager there .. the man is a natural .. just born natural boxer.. his dad was 9x kick boxer all brothers box.. he can beat floyd if he trains ... the man does not train.. I'll get in trouble for saying this but for garcia he would litterally show up 1 hour a day hit some mitts spar 3 rounds then leave.. run once a week in mountains ..... he he trained like floyd does ... zab would be untouchable ... southpaw .. hits hard as shit.... fast as shit......

floyd does train 4 times a day .. long sessions.. sometimes at 3am.. and always at 9pm.... say what you want about his hood rich attitude .. the man trains his ass off....

every fight can't be a KO or TKO - even the best fighters can't do that. I agree that judge was scoring bad though - she should go into figure skating.

if you think it was a draw and watch boxing for a hobby you may want to spend a little time learning how to score fights

wining is wining be it by a knockdown or enough points scored.

mayweather did what he knows best and even stood up to Canelo. I was very dissapointed in the mexican turned out to be all mouth no fists.

on a second note i think all of us who watch and are not in the ring underestimates mayweathers punch.

i mean mexicans are known to have cement heads and the second mayweather hit mr. ginger mexican he did not do what he was supposed to.. SLUG IT OUT!!

but hey it is just me and my 15 plus years of being a boxing fan

It's just mayweather is that good he made canelo look like he had no idea what he was doing... very fustrating... as for punching power.. I been hit by mayweather he don;t hit hard but it's not power that kills it's speed.. speed always kills .... right now as we sit and type for sure he all time best boxer in the world... hands down bar none.....

Could be. 74.95 for that fight was total BS. For what the fans got, we were ripped off. At least the Garcia fight was awesome.

The way things are scored is based on punches landed and a few other factors including defense. Mayweather never gets hit. His punches are not very hard and dont usually stumble people. But throughout the course of the fight he does a lot of damage and lands a lot of punches. If you knew anything about boxing you would see how 1 sided this fight was after about the 3rd round. Stumbling hits do not decide boxing matches. Although wayweather fights are extremely boring. They are good for him, and good for gamblers. Every one of his fights looks the same. They always go the distance and he always wins by decision.

The pre fight with Danny Swift Garcia was a great fight. Just bet Floyd and the Over to cover the cost of the fight on payperview and it will be free. Or bet more and actually win some money.
