Diesel power is for trucks, locomotives and heavy equipment in the USA.

Turbo diesel cars are not impressive on American roads but they might beat a Toyota Camry in a race

The more potent variant should hit 60 mph in 6.1 seconds A6 3.0 TDI

Cadillac CTS from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 170 mph.

The Camry’s optional V-6 may be basically unchanged, but it delivers respectable hustle—0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds

yea, but if I'm going to spend $50k on a car, I want it to be fun to drive...

Another issue here is that Diesel fuel is more expensive in most places by .50-75 cents a gallon

I think there is a strong argument that America was well ahead of the curve with diesel... which is why it went from costing 1/2 of what gasoline cost in the 70s to quite a bit more than what gasoline costs today. There was a period where every major car manufacturer was making diesel cars... that is in large part, what causes the price of diesel to shoot up.

I own a 2001 VW TDI, I have had it for 12 years. Has 137k Miles on it and it drives like I first bought it. 50 miles to the gallon easy! That car will go on for a LONG time. Its about fuel economy and longevity.

US makes more on GAS, the refining, taxing and the fact it burns so fast.

True, but there's a saying, People buy horsepower, but drive torque. For your average person, 0-60 times don't mean much. I've driven a diesel for the last 5 years and I don't think I'd go back to to gas. The power is there right from 1,000 RPM all the way to 4,500, its a nice smooth power, hills are great, since you don't get a lot of down shifting, and of course the fuel economy is fantastic Avg 37 mpg in a mid sized sedan.

it's a good quality car, but it's NOT a performance car by an means (0-60 in 6.0? come on now )... it's a nice car you would take your family grocery shopping with, but it's far from a "fun" car...

there is this guy who lives in my neighbourhood and he owns a subaru legacy, about the same age as your average new zealand car and what he is obviously trying to get going is a race between me and him. i can drive well i think i have already proven that certainly to anyone who was at any time paying attention but knowing how much of a slithering sliver of a snake he is he will cheat to win and to be honest if he did win i probably would be a real sore loser about it so save it and just don't bother.
