What's it mean when your computer starts whirring and locks up then shuts down?
Sometimes when I'm working my comuter just starts making a light whirring sound from the inside and my desktop freezes up, then a minute later my machine shuts down or I get that blue screen.
Does that sound like a power surge? |

No, it means that your electrons are seizing up. Usually what I do is give the motherboard a light spritzing of water - use DISTILLED water only though. That will loosen them up.

Maybe it's over heating. I had a computer die on me 2 months ago when the fan stopped working and overheated the power box.

I would also say hard drive. Go to your drive makers site and get a utility to test out the drive. It might come back with an error code so you can send it back for a return. Maybe bad sectors or its dying. Either way I would return it.

means the fucker is gonna blow up.
I'd call the FBI and the bomb squad. Sounds like that bomb in the movie Excutive Decision with Kurt Russell. That fucker is gonna blow. |

I think that is normal for a computer running Windows.

Could also be wires getting to close to the CPU fan. I had that happen once. Most likely though its your hard drive telling you I'm about to go to Heaven.

I'd check the cpu fan to see if it's seizing up. If it was hard drive issues bad enough to cause that, it wouldn't start at all.

Could be hard drive, or like the other said heating issues.
Heating is easy. take off the case and boot the sucker up. Look at all the fans and make sure they are spinning. If not, that's probably it right there. If everything looks cool, then backup your shit, and/or have a geek friend come over and look at it. -Phil |

More than likely...its the fan thats causing the over heating.
Also check your fan on your power supply. Very common problem. Probably clugged up with shit. get ya a can of compressed air and blow out all the dust bunnies inside your computer and fans. It may take care of the proble |
