No ads exist on the site for revenue.
They give away money for most visited videos.

So I dont know if the person buying the popunders is someone trying to win the top video view to get the price, or the actual site getting exposure.

Eh. You know how it is in the world of startups. Take as much VC money as they can to cover their personal salary while holding off site monetization attempts as long as possible. Because as soon as they try to monetize and it isn't working, heads start rolling.

I checked who owned Vubeoligy Inc., the company behind vube.com, and I recognized the names

Its cool idea with all the covers of songs and contests.

Def has not reached its potential yet. Think about how big american idol and all that crap is. Site could do with a host or a tv/webshow to get some order to the chaos. Maybe hold some real contests like $100k a month prize or something

There are dollar amounts beside many of the videos - that's money the video has earned by number of plays?

The amounts listed is the prize money the videos have earned. Vube pays $10,000s a month in prize money for the top ranked videos.

Maybe the business model is that they hope to discover some people that will end up becoming big stars and they might have something in their terms that they will own the rights and get a cut or something.

Hmm that is crap traffic so it's alexa rank means shit.Tried to load video,and it was lagging as fuck.
Tho when it comes to tube sites there is room to innovate ,at the moment youtube if you dont know what to look suck hard ass,meaning default suggestion system sucks.
