Hard time understanding the basis of the vube.com video site

I have been seeing this on popups on various sites (popunders rather)

    You Can't embed the videos.
No ads exist on the site for revenue.
They give away money for most visited videos.

So I dont know if the person buying the popunders is someone trying to win the top video view to get the price, or the actual site getting exposure.

Not sure if its some sort of startup or not.

        More:

We are an innovative online entertainment startup company located in downtown Austin. Vubeology's goal is to develop a top 10 site in the world within a year of launch. We plan to become a leader in online video chat / video sharing while connecting tens of millions of people around the world. We are currently in the process of developing our initial product, and plan to be fully operational by late spring 2013. You can view our site at www.vube.com

Our website allows users to upload the video content they've produced, share it with other users, and discover content shared by others. In addition, users have the ability to interact socially, provide criticisms in a forum-like environment, and share content to external social networks. Combining similar features of several existing platforms, Vubeology is creating an optimized way to discover, share, and broadcast video entertainment content.

Our innovative team of software developers is currently pioneering the initial versions of Vube.com, and developing our market approach. We look forward to a successful debut in the social and interactive sharing platform industry. ? less

          And even Moar:

          About Vubeology

Vubeology is a very exciting 4 month old startup in downtown Austin. We are a fast paced & passionate team with huge aspirations. Our product, vube.com, is quickly becoming one of the largest video sharing platforms in the world. What is Vube? See for yourself: http:/vube.com/Vube/101nHx7lRxNJJ?t=s

What makes us different than other video sites? We do monthly video competitions to create engagement between users and content producers.

Our goal is to create a revolutionary content delivery platform that gives millions of talented producers the system they need to promote, broadcast, and bill the entire world for their creations.
          http://careers.stackoverflow.com/job...ideo-vubeology

So, it sounds like they will be eventually giving producers a way to charge people to see the videos and that is where the money part would be at.

          ETSY for independent video producers.

Eh. You know how it is in the world of startups. Take as much VC money as they can to cover their personal salary while holding off site monetization attempts as long as possible. Because as soon as they try to monetize and it isn't working, heads start rolling.

Hmm having a play with this site.

ALl you can do is upload your video, no choice for thumbs or tags or anything really.

They are putting millions and millions of dollars in that project.
Probably a lot of the money they make with Streamate is being put into Vube.com
                              But why? IPO?

Its cool idea with all the covers of songs and contests.

Def has not reached its potential yet. Think about how big american idol and all that crap is. Site could do with a host or a tv/webshow to get some order to the chaos. Maybe hold some real contests like $100k a month prize or something

Damn, I have never come across this site. Where are they buying their ads from and placing them?

There are dollar amounts beside many of the videos - that's money the video has earned by number of plays?

There are dollar amounts beside many of the videos - that's money the video has earned by number of plays?
They buy popunders, mainly from big torrent sites etc.

The amounts listed is the prize money the videos have earned. Vube pays $10,000s a month in prize money for the top ranked videos.

Maybe the business model is that they hope to discover some people that will end up becoming big stars and they might have something in their terms that they will own the rights and get a cut or something.

Fuck yeah, thanks for this thread.

Plus the auto-sound/video playing on popunders is annoying.

Tho when it comes to tube sites there is room to innovate ,at the moment youtube if you dont know what to look suck hard ass, meaning default suggestion system sucks.
