American Psycho what is it exactly you do?, I'm only new to this forum but what i think your doing is amazing.

Your industry role says affiliate? do you do mainstream aswell?

You need to ask yourself some questions

1. Is the kid motivated - by what you've said you probably think he is?
2. is the kid literate?
3. is the kid computer literate?

If i was in your shoes depending on the niche i would get him to do some leafleting

This to begin with will at least show if he has commitment and stamina (go to a few random addresses and ask if they actually got the leaflet).

With the right affiliate program you will at least break even probably make a profit.

After he has proven himself you can explain about the affiliate industry to him / get him to design landing pages etc just take it step by step.

Instead of having him come work for you, help him find a job with either a friend / relo / whatever or in teh jobs section / get training / traineeship / apprentice ship...

Help him organise his cv / whatever else.

If you take him in and pay him = relationship doomed to be fucked.

If you help him to address his problem (lack of skills and direction) then you remain his mentor / friend / whatever.

Worst thing you could do is employ him yourself. Help him find his vocation - that is far more valuable than learning how to post shitty gallerys to tgps or whatever porn shit you had in mind for him.

That's an idiotic thing to say.

We shall see, when/if the OP comes back in a few weeks/months saying he was robbed mysteriously we will all have at least a small idea of who the main suspect should be...

You're doing a good thing, and whilst all the cynicism is understandable, since you know him, or think you do, yep, give him a break - I've done it twice.

Most important thing I found was to keep them as far away from any financial inkling of how much you make.
Of course, owning more than one big house and with a bunch of nice autos it kinda gives the game away a bit, but nowhere as bad as if you ever get tempted to talk or give any clue as to $ about what you actually make.

In both cases, after much trying, there was no way I could get them to follow where they were making a meaningful contribution to what I was doing.
(Being mindful, in fairness to them, I kept them away from anything fiscal, which is not as easy as you first think).

Long story short, the first I set up in garden maintenance, and the second in painting and decorating - it was the only way in the end and being equally honest self pride on my part in not just quitting the whole thing.

The garden guy let me down; started targeting elderly and doing little for a lot of $ - luckily I was distanced enough for plausible deny-ability by then as he'd paid back his set up costs.

The paint/decorating one did well, and still is.
He pays me back by renovating my rental propeerties for free, so I get him work for buddies who also use rentals as part of their retirement income.

Be warned it can get a bit stressful at first, but never having helped or given much before, it did feel kinda nice since it was a first for me never having done anything without calculating the $ return for over 30+ years.

Wish you luck

What skills does he have?

Can he write? Draw? Is he good with numbers? Does he read well? Can he type? Play a musical instrument?

Start with identifying what he can do and you'll be a lot closer to knowing what you want him to do.

First, teach him basic html. Then move up to a simple WYSWYG editor. A little basic photoshop: resize, edit for web in jpeg editor, brightness & contrast, etc.
Give him a lesson in seo in webpage design. Finally, let him design his first page, sell something and make a few bucks. .....hooked for life.

So do most of the responders in this thread (except Kristin) hate and regret their life choices or what?

I think giving someone a chance he might not otherwise have had is an excellent thing to do and Kristin's suggestions are exactly the sort of thing which you could put somebody new to work on.

If you're talking about the advice to not get him into online porn - I think we're more saying a 19 year old with no job experience and from a questionable home would be better served learning some other basic transferable skills first.

When the advice seems to be that getting into online adult would be the worst thing ever, yes, it does sound like the people posting that hate and regret their own life choices. How would you explain it?

I mean, you are posting on GFY, so you are in this business, right? Why be so negative about it?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you come across like an intelligent person who knows Microsoft Word and other basic transferable skills. So, uhm, why are you in online adult, if it is, ya know, bad somehow, and being a delivery guy or office temp would be way better?

I hear what you're saying Amelia, there are some guys on here who definitely seem to have contempt for their own industry.

But that's not where I'm going really. Again, I'm talking about the context. I'm in my 30s with a background in multiple fields, do mainstream stuff in addition to the adult projects, there's a lot of flexibility & experience to draw on employment-wise. But even so, for some mainstream jobs (I'd say nearly half of my other clients) I don't advertise that I've run porn/erotica sites - like it or not a decent % of the business world (and society in general) is skeptical of adult.

If this kid were set up posting promo videos to porn tubes or whatever to make a few bucks, that's just not going to be experience he can reference for future employment. Keep in mind he's 19 and has no real skills or documented experience yet so every bit counts.

Years ago I used to work at a restaurant and one afternoon my boss goes to the bank and comes back with a bum. He was homeless and was gonna wash dishes a few hours for a free meal. The next day he came back in first thing in the morning, asking if there was anything he could do and we gave him a few crappy jobs, dishes, grease traps, polishing the vents, etc... Did a great job. After a few days of this we offered him a job. Turned out to be a great employee really.
