MacBook Pro Suggestions

I'm finally replacing a 7 year old MacBook Pro for a newer model. I put this one through some use and still runs better than most laptops that friends have.

I'm in between three models, two are retina display, one is not. The non-retina one I found a GREAT deal on, but is it worth the extra to get it? Closest Apple store is 45 minutes from me and don't have the time to take a drive to check them out anytime soon.

The retina ones are models ME664LL/A (2012) and MC975LL/A (OLDER). I read some people having problems with the retina models, but I will mainly be using this for things like Excel, website maintenance, etc., rarely for any photo and video editing at all. Price differnece between the two is about is $400, so not sure if it's worth it.

The non-retina display is MD104LL/A which is the same price as the MC975LL/A.

Is it worth it for retina? I've checked them out briefly a while ago and noticed a difference, but for watching movies more than anything, which I don't really do. If so, is it worth it to get the new model for $400 more than the others?

Thanks

Hey bro.

I got a non-retina MBP 15" i7 for $2,500. I enjoy it, and it's very functional for coding work.

I would spring for the extra specs, not for the higher-end display, if it were me ... and, I guess, a few months ago, it WAS me .. and that's what I did, lol.

Honestly, I'd wait until after the WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) in June.

I've read that Apple will discontinue their non-Retina Macbook Pro line of laptops and make tweaks to the design of the current Retina based laptops. Which will almost certainly see a price drop.

Also, I've read that Apple will be releasing a new version of the Macbook Air with Intels new next-gen Haswell chips and they also are going reduce the thickness.

As much as I'd like to wait, I need something sooner. The non-retina model I found with an amazing price, around $200 below what it's available on Amazon.

I know the prices will drop if they eliminate the non retina models, but anyone with experience on both recommend to get one or hold off?

I have the 15" MBP with Retina. It's an awesome machine, but to be honest, I really haven't seen the benefit of the Retina display.

I have the newest retina display model and I absolutely love it.
I have been a die-hard fan of MacBooks for many years and I believe this new one is fantastic.
However the retina display is just an added bonus and I believe it is a feature that everyone can easily live without...but it is very nice to have

I think I'm leaning towards the retina display, just went to check them out at best buy and BIG difference.

Anyone know any substanical differences between the older (MC975LL/A) and newer model (ME664LL/A)?
