Yeah, someone (I can't remember if it was Richard or _Rochard_) in one of the earlier threads posted a link to a big article about CRAFT. They had close ups of the "device," and acknowledged that it was a radiation detector.

Some people in the comments on that article also said they've see the CRAFT logo on people at other public evens in Boston, so perhaps the city hires them to provide extra security or something.

That wouldn't surprise me one little bit. Those guys are all ex Navy SEALs from what I understand after reading a few biographies, including Kyle's. Those guy are probably some of the most highly trained private specialized security contractors on the planet. I wouldn't be surprised if they pop up at events all over the country. It MIGHT even suggest somebody, somewhere thought there was a semi-credible threat. Then again it might not.

If you knew anything about the character of guys that make it as Navy SEALs and go on to have multiple successful deployments, you'd know they are a highly patriotic (for good or for bad) crowd of guys. It's very hard to believe they would be involved in an active attack against American citizens.

I would think so. The article I was referring to was questioning why they were there and what there involvement was. The person who mentioned them being at other events as well claimed to be from Boston, and would back up that theory that they are extra security.

When these photos first popped up I thought it was odd that these two were dressed identical like.

However, it's not difficult to explain at all. Large cities hire private companies for security at large events - that's just common sense.

Just because a private security company was at a large event doesn't mean anything at all. And surely they wouldn't be involved in such an attack with their company name on their clothes.

One of the images shows two of the private security guys standing right by where the bomb went off. SEAL or not, they were not able to do what someone paid them to do.

As it says on the page, that is what martial law looks like in the USA. Of course it's not really martial law, but that is what it would look like.

Seems like a whole lot of manpower and firepower to catch a 19 year old kid.

I've been out of the country for a while, so I guess it's totally normal now to have mercenaries on the streets of the USA with radiation detectors. I mean, why would you use the police, National Guard, ATF, FBI, or Homeland Security when you can pay mercenaries to do it? Sounds logical. And by the looks of things it was money well spent.

However, from a PR standpoint, the government appears to be trying to demonstrate that they will do whatever it takes to apprehend/kill a very dangerous person with a terrorist agenda.

I am guessing the local police isn't going to be able to do much with radiation. I mean, does Boston have a "radiation" department in it's police department? Does the city of Boston call in help from federal agencies for a sporting event or parade?

I'm asking a serious question. The town next to us has an amphitheatre that can handle twenty thousand people - which is nine times larger than the town population. I'm guessing the local police department there can't handle an influx of 20k people; Do they contact Homeland security to ask for staff to handle radiation detectors?

In this case it was money well spent - the knew instantly there are no radiation involved.

They didn't hire mercenaries just to check for radiation. That is just a tool that had at their disposal, and I'd bet the local SWAT team has the same gear.

Yes, Homeland Security and the National Guard have been used in a lot of events in the USA, based on what I've seen online. That is part of their job now. Hiring mercenaries PRIOR to a situation doesn't make a lot of sense. After an event, like after Katrina or another disaster, sure, that makes sense. They have brought them in for such things in the past, but to be on stand-by during an event, I don't think it's common.

You're a military man, you know what these guys are capable of and trained for, and it isn't to check radiation levels. Anyone with a device can do that, you can buy them online. If they brought them in for security, they wasted their money. A bomb went off no more than 15 feet from where two of them were standing prior.
