Memory Dump - GoFuckYourself.com

I don't understand this.

When trying to play a .wmv, my computer did a memory dump. It's the fourth time this has happened.

What's strange is the same thing has happened with Real Player movies.

I've uninstalled both Real Player and Windows Media Player....and my computer will be fine for a while. Then, someone will send me a clip and bang....memory dump.

The error report from Windows XP tells me it's a driver that can't be identified...which is why I uninstall the players.

Anyone else ever have this problem?

Other than that, my computer runs great....not even a year old yet.

Maybe it's talking about sound or video drivers? Hit the Microsoft Windows Update site and check the 'drivers' section, see if anything needs updated.

It's talking about some kind of driver, although the error message says the driver can't be identified.....

I've got all my updates...

Raven, update your graphics adapter drivers... if you are using the most current, fall back to a previous build of the drivers. what you describe when Media Player kicks in is a symptom of a conflict w/ your system BIOS and your graphics drivers, almost always a change in drivers will solve this problem..

I did that. They are current Matrox drivers.

I've done a repair on XP.

What strikes me as odd, is....it's done it with both Real Player AND Windows Media Player. I've uninstalled both and reinstalled them. Microsoft has no answer for this either on their website.

I guess, the only thing left to do is pay them for the tech support, cause every time this happens...and, it doesn't happen every time I play a clip....I lose anything I'm working on......while it does its dump thing.

Very frustrating because I never know what video clip will trigger this intermittent event.
