The mainstream media makes no sense

"They are not releasing the pictures because they don't want to tip the suspects off"

lol wtf? If you did it, then you know you did it and they will probably come after you...if you had nothing to do with it then you had nothing to do with it

Good god, the mainstream media is beyond a joke

If you did it I'm pretty sure you already know there is a good chance you might be a suspect.

But if you did it and you are just sitting around your house enjoying the aftermath and have no idea they are on to you then you might not try to hide. If the media shows picture of you and says, "We are looking for this person." You might make a more active attempt to hide.

How's the late night bike rides to Taco Bell going Johnny?

That makes no sense

If you did it, then you know they will be after you...if you didn't do it then they won't be (well unless of course they set you up)

Correct. . . to a point.

Yes, if you did it you would assume they would be after you. This doesn't mean that you would have any idea how close they are to identifying/catching you. Many people go back to the scene of their crimes to enjoy the moment.

If you did it and you were just laying low in your house and had no idea they might have ID'd you then you might just continue to do that. If you turned on the news and saw that they were circulating pictures of you and had ID'd you as a suspect you might actively try to leave the area to take more steps to hide yourself.

If you did it, with all the videos and pictures coming out minutes after it happened, then you won't be hanging out in your place

You give most criminals too much credit. Maybe that is the case here. Maybe they did it and got the hell out of town. Many criminals are simply not that bright and they would just hang out wherever they live.

I think it all depends. If this was a well planned thing by a group (or even a very well prepared individual) that was not from Boston I could see how they would come into town, carry out their mission, and then leave.

Still, how far they go to then hide would depend on their level of paranoia. Say, for example, they were from Idaho. They carry out the bombing, go back to Idaho and lay low. They wouldn't want to act strange or draw attention to themselves to they go about living their lives and pretending like nothing ever happened. So long as they have no idea that the FBI is on to them they could go on doing just that then one day at 4am the tact team raids their house.

However, if one afternoon they turn on the news and see pictures of themselves and they see that the FBI considers them suspects they might then decide to bug out and if they have a backup plan for going into deeper hiding they could carry it out.

All I am saying is that by posting pictures or video of potential suspects on the news can serve to notify those who did it that the FBI is getting close and it could cause them to go further into hiding.

They said they have identified a suspect...if you were involved, now you're going to panic...so why not show the pics?

This is hilarious... as kane said, you give too much credit!

Whoever did this, was stupid enough in the first place to think that its a good idea to kill people. Then, they were stupid enough to badly build bombs, thus some did not go off. Then, they were stupid enough to think that if they did this, they would not actually get caught. Why did they think this? Because they did not kill themselves doing so, thus they thought they would have a life to live.

So why do you think they would be all of a sudden INTELLIGENT and know they are being looked for? They will still be wackos and think that they have nothing to fear.

Posting pictures makes it 100% sure they know they are looking for them. Even 1% less chance of that is good.

Posting pictures makes sure you get them because everyone will recognize them, especially if they're that dumb

So let's look at it from a different perspective. Let's say the media posts a picture of suspect. This person is innocent, but shows up in a video and the police want to talk to them. The picture goes out and someone decides to take matters into their own hands and attacks this person. Perhaps even kills this person?

I know this doesn't happen often, but it has in the past. Hell, just accidentally suggesting that someone is a suspect can ruin their lives.

Yes, posting the pictures can help and in some cases maybe it is a good idea, but I can surely understand why they would not want to publicize the pictures.
