http://www.spiegel.de/auto/aktuell/u...-a-891281.html

basically a mechanic took a clients car for a test ride in the rain...

The other day I was at a stop light, it had just rained... And I watched a pick up truck very slowly take a turn and start sliding... And it kept on sliding right into a line of parked cars.

Not much you can do some times.

dang.

i always figured dudes and cars like that had their own certain mechanic.. the article reads like the driver was 26 yearsold and hotrodding around the corner, doesn't sound like the regular wrench for a car like that.

I bet this happens all the time. You only hear about the 1% that get caught because they crash it.

There are some pretty well known stories down your way about mechanics / apprentices destroying 200sx's / gtr's etc in the same way.

A mate had an SS ute with a little extra beef and when he got it back from a Holden dealer there were nice scratches on his rims and his from spoiler crushed.

people most of time think that they can drive like in movies, but they never watched live and real driving. In wet, hard conditions and big turns even professional drivers sometimes slow down just to 30 km/h to not make a crash like this.

Get off of the brakes when that happens and you'll usually be fine

If that guy worked regularly on classic cars he should know better but the car has 215 hp, rear wheel drive and no abs, esp or anything....

And i know perfectly well how things like that happen, i did almost the same with my Porsche once, i just didnt crash as hard as he did

I think anyone who has ever driven a car at 90% in less than ideal conditions knows how easily shit like this happens.

I was sitting next to another BMW 335 on a rainy night a few months ago and was driving with traction control and stability control off, and these cars BTW have open-diff... I accelerated hard away from him and within a fraction of a second the car was completely sideways and I looked like an idiot.

But there was literally no way to steer into it, to keep it going in one direction. It was like the moment I put my foot into it, it was sideways. Caught me off guard.

Not the first time it's happened either. I have my suspicions that these open-diff cars are nearly impossible to control in a situation like that.

he was going fast enough to flip the car, i would think he would have been familiar enough with the roads around the shop where they *test drive* to have known he was so way far over the max.

Probably a diesel truck, all that torque you can break the tires loose so easily on those things.

I lent my moped to a kid once and he brought it back with the tailpipe all bent. Later learned he was jumping it off the curb. True story.

Unless there is significant frame damage, the car will be repaired and the owner will pay $0 out of pocket.

A friend of mine was getting a turbo put into his Corvette and when they were test driving it (standard protocol), someone rear ended them hard enough to cause them to hit the car in front. They ended up doing all the repair work and the owner felt so bad, he gave my friend the turbo charger for free, labor included.
