Check my first post. A simple truthful observation (to some it does not seem too wise to post about so much info about your mainstream biz on a porn board), along with an inside joke to Minte attached.

I had no idea who Minte was prior to this thread, aside from random posts of his that I recall seeing, most of which seemed centered on cars, and the rest I can recall were about his mainstream biz, and of course his strongly opinionated political rants (edit: and the occasional Packers thread).

I honestly didn't have any idea what he did in porn, if anything, since I couldn't remember a single thread in which he posted about what he did in the adult biz (and he does not have an adult link in his sig, which was why I asked).

When Minte posted yet again today, photos of his building, I was only going to comment about posting mainstream biz info on a porn board. However, when I used the GFY quote function, it displayed an adult-related website URL for the images. It only took a quick Whois, and a Google search to learn about the company, which I read that Minte's Dad started, and that he is a second-generation head of now.

From his anti-government, anti-union political rants, I had the impression that he built his business all by himself, a la John Galt (except John Galt is a fictional character).

Instead of letting it drop, he made a statement of fact in response to me, that he founded the company with his Dad, which was clearly not the impression that I got from looking at the company history (founded in 1967), and then when considering his age (once you know a person's location, etc., is pretty easy to locate their age on the net).

When I called his bluff, he doubled down by avoiding my question, and throwing out a red herring statement to deflect from the point I was trying to make, and stated that he was old enough to serve in the Army during Vietnam (which had nothing to do with whether he started a company with his Dad in 1967). The Vietnam war didn't end until 1975. I am a Vietnam era vet too, but there is no way I could have started a business in 1967, unless you count my paper route and cutting neighbors lawns.

Even after I provided more details, Minte still insisted on clinging to this story, which is apparently important to his self-image, that he was a co-founder of the company which he now heads. All I know is what I read. That the company he now runs, is a second generation company started in 1967 by Minte's Dad.

All of that aside, my main point was about his posting info that is pretty much irrelevant to adult, and I thought somewhat risky considering how much he has to lose. By his most recent reaction, he apparently now realizes this to some extent (even if his take is slightly different).

I have never disputed that Minte is the current owner of the company (as others have), nor have I exposed his personal info, even though there is a Whois record for an adult website with all of his info on it (which would have made it fair game, if that was how I do things).

I will also do nothing else with the info. I don't know the guy, and I don't have anything against him personally. Looks like he has a pretty solid biz, and makes loads of cash judging by all of the cars that he likes to post about so frequently.

I will simply take into consideration what I think about his actual background, that he probably learned the biz, and inherited the family business, from his Dad (no shame in that), when I consider his other viewpoints about government, unions, and the such.

I've always been somewhat of a champion for real underdogs, that why I get a little heated when I hear conservatives like Romney talk about poor and working class people feeling entitled. People who come from wealth/connections should be the last to talk about feeling entitled.

Nathan (Fabian Thylmann) is another example of a guy that claims to be a self-made man, however when you look deeper at how he got to where he is, it appears to many that his success is due at least in part, to some shall we say, less than honorable business practices.

The facade that Thylmann tried to create is crumbling now. He spent a few weeks in jail as a result of a large scale investigation into his taxes and finances. Still Fabian wants everyone to believe that the only problem is that the German government just doesn't understand his tax issues.

If Fabian believed so strongly that what he was doing in Germany was 100% legal, then why did he suddenly shut much of his German operations down following the police raid? This could lead people to speculate that the German investigators may have found more on Nathan's computers than the story that he is currently trying to spin.

Anyway, getting off on a bit of a tangent there.

I genuinely wish Minte well with his mainstream business, and if he's still in porn, I look forward to still debating with him from time to time on GFY.

Sorry if people think I was being a big meanie. Comments noted. I don't like being thought of as a dick, and in this case, even though I don't think that I was totally wrong, I understand how some of you take any comments towards a friends, so I want everyone to know that I mean no ill will towards Minte or his business, and I'll try to be nicer.

LOL. Nice site bro. You must have been around for a long time since you are still making sites in frontpage. Nice 9 million rank alexa site you have there with broken images. Must get a ton of traffic. Who are you trying to fool.

I have sold over 7 figures of network infrastructure hardware and integration services for the last 5+ years. Including virtualization infrastructures, disaster recovery, data replication, storage area networks and network security. This that are way beyond your mental capacity.

ADG

Where you went wrong was regurgitating what you read about my company in the various newspaper and magazine articles. I am responsible for the content.

As far as what you think you know, in 67 my father opened a tool shop in his garage. For the first 3 years he still kept his fulltime job at another company and worked nights and weekends. It was some extra income for a young man with a growing family.

I was a teenager and was the only employee on the first day he started. After highschool, I went off and did other things for 4 years. He stayed as a 1 man shop when he had enough business to quit his day job. In 1975 he asked me if I were interested in coming back and actually try to build the company. For the first year and a half it was just him and I. He didn't like working in sales so I spent time on the road and found new business, It wasn't until nearly 1977 that we hired our first employee. We looked for an identity. Tool & Die was ok, but not growth oriented. We decided to buy our first stamping press.

In sales, especially in manufacturing, you use whatever tools you have available. When I walked into a potential customer I learned to embellish on the longevity question. I can tell you all with experience that a customer like ACME AIRCRAFT..is not going to take a chance on a startup company that has been in business for 18 months. So we always said we started in 1967,,when in fact that was not technically the case. The company formed and became a C corp in 1976. Since his passing I never saw the need to modify that fact when I do interviews.

I wrote this today, because when I decide to leave GFY and the many friends I have made over the last 15 years I will do it on my terms.

Lykos 03-20-2013 06:04 AM

Looks amazing, congrats !

Relentless 03-20-2013 06:13 AM

ADG,

If someone on stage at a comedy club says something I may not agree with or find factually accurate... I let it go. Non-business-threads on GFY are no more than that. If the post was something that might impact the way business is done, affect where people send their traffic, impact the online business ecosystem or is germane to a discussion about an open topic...then I'm all for arguing the point (and have done so often with Minte and many others here).

1. Someone says 'I support gun control because my neighbor owns an atomic bomb' go ahead and debunk it. Someone gets accused of shaving sales or abusing consumers or stealing content, go ahead and raise hell about it.

2. Someone says 'my kid just graduated from college and I'm so happy for her' - either say congrats, or stfu and skip the thread. Their personal life doesn't require your analysis and their post has no relevance to you unless you take it upon yourself to become involved with it.

I really do hope that makes sense to you.

Got a question back on topic. Ive seen the inside of three factories. One I worked, One I toured and the other you shown in pics. Here is my question, why do they all have crappy office furniture? It because the offices are so close to factory floor, that it would get ruined?

The furniture in our lobby came with the building. It's actually very well built and all leather. It is a bit retro... and wouldn't have been what I will eventually pick out, But for now there is no shortage of things to spend money on around here.

Unless you have clients doing onsite visits, the furniture doesn't earn you any money. Part of the dot com bubble was caused by companies building lavish offices that were completely unnecessary and artificially amping up their overhead to unsustainable levels. Showrooms and conference rooms need nice furniture. Billing offices need functional furniture that promotes efficiency and is NOT too comfortable. Having a big couch in a back office is a misguided incentive for employs to take naps... :2 cents:

Lets be serious here. Your site is 9 million Alexa. Which means less people go to your site a day then humans land on the moon, and I am the idiot. You have no leg to stand on asking people what they do in this business with sites like yours. Go get a fucking clue. I have sites that are 10 days old that have higher Alexa rankings.

When you work for significant companies, if you can't afford a nice conference room they start to worry you can't finance the job they are about give you. On large new contracts mintes new space becomes as much a part of the sales pitch as it is a functional work space. Nice doesn't have to mean ostentatious... It does have to show you aren't operating on the bleeding fringe of your debt limit. The same applies to governments. The idiocy with the US debt ceiling and Cypriot banking weakens their pitch for new business in much the same way.

Your office is always unlocked? Any serious documents you keep there? :winkwink:

I did keep some CTSA targeting data from my days with Pershing Missiles.

Only thing I kept was the lock on the door, but I never got a key for it so it hasn't been used. The bulletproof window is now a sliding window with screens!
The sofa got donated to GoodWill.

could be why you were able to buy the place :2 cents:

The idiocy with the US debt ceiling and Cypriot banking weakens their pitch for new business in much the same way.

yes the factory should speak volumes just as ostentations offices will... :2 cents:

A fancy office doesnt mean sloppy business. Dealer principles of high end car dealers I worked for had some of the most OMG offices you can imagine. One guy had life size remington cowboy statues in his 1000 sq ft office. It looked like a museum. Another one, his office was even bigger and he had a huge I love me wall ( thats all framed pictures of the dealer with famous people and receiving awards) , the area in his office he interviewed me looked like the set of one of those good morning tv shows. One dealer had very plain office, his family owned the location from the 1800's. He felt he should be around the building all the time not in an office. He was crazy but a good guy, I still miss him to this day.

People complain about the most promenient CEOs spending millions on office decor, but thing about it, when people come in to discuss business with them and do deals it has to be the best.

Same thing when negotiating deals for cars, the higher end the car the higher end the offices should be.
