Anyone else ever see Gummo?

Has anyone else ever seen this movie? It's quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen.

I just saw that the Director of it, Harmony Korine who also did Kids, is the Director for the new movie Spring Breakers... Which looks awesome! haha

Gummo: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119237/

Gummo is one of the wackiest movies ever. For some reason a technology nerd cult classic....

Gummo is a pretty shit movie. I saw it many years ago, I was probably 15 or 16 years old. One benefit, was because of that movie I discovered one of my favorite bands, SLEEP!

Their song Dragonaut appears in this scene of Gummo:

I loved the Black Sabbath vibe, and searched for this band and grabbed all their records at the time, which was a single LP and a pair of EPs

here's the full version of the song Dragonaut by SLEEP:

Most disgusting part was when the kid was eating spaghetti and chocolate in that filthy bathtub, with bacon taped to the wall. I seen a movie with that kid in it now that he's all grown up. Still one of the ugliest people ever.

LOL! This is likely the first time I have ever seen someone else mention it.

It was horrible and hilarious at the same time. I always recommend it to people just to get a kick out of it.

I FUCKIN' HATE RABBITS!

That's kind of funny. I watched Gummo specifically because a band I loved in my teens had a song in the movie that they didn't release anywhere else.

The Electric Hellfire Club - D.W.S.O.B. (Devil Worshipping Son of a Bitch)

I was talking to Thomas Thorn, leader singer and founder of the EHC later on AIM (!), and I mentioned trying to track down the Gummo soundtrack to buy it to get that song. He straight out said to me, "I don't advocate anyone downloading my music for free. In fact I hate it. But this is one instance where I'm telling you to go download that song somewhere. That movie was a piece of shit."

Just a heads up on the EHC...

Thomas Thorn was once "Buck Ryder" in My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, so EHC's early albums have a very electronic/techno/dance kind of sound, though they incorporate guitar frequently. On the back of the "Unholy Roller EP," Thorn says about the band, "We are not an 'industrial band' ...we are Satanic Electro-Glam." He also said that even with that description of the band and their style, their audience consists entirely of metalheads and strippers.

Now as the band evolved, Thorn wanted to go more metal, and the sound got heavier, so much so that I was blown away the first time I heard "The Bishop's Folly" on the Empathy for the Devil EP. The following album, Witness the Millennium, was a lot more metal, but was also still heavy on the techo/electronic sound as well. Their final album before their many year hiatus, Electronomicon, was almost fully metal, but still incorporating the keyboards.

I didn't mean to give an entire lesson on the history and evolution of the Electric Hellfire Club, but just wanted to give you a heads up that if you listen to "Burn Baby Burn" material and "Electronomican" material back to back, it's going to sound like two different bands.

Kali on Acid (Electric Hellfire Acid Test remix - same song, female vocals) from Satan's Little Helpers EP

Hypochristian from Electronomicon

The Monkey's Paw from Electronomicon

Oh, and another interesting tidbit...these guys are cover whores. Being on Cleopatra Records (who put out tribute cds to every known band there is), the EHC was frequently asked to record cover tracks for tribute albums. A little searching will reveal covers of the typical bands (AC/DC, Metallica, Iron Maiden) to little of the unexpected (INXS, the Cure) to the bizarre--they've covered Blondie's "Rush Rush" (a great cover, btw) and the theme to the "Charles in Charge" tv show, though they tweaked the lyrics to make song about Manson.

Nah, I'll pass on those. They're not my style either. You must be so edgy and cool though to think this is a BRILLIANT movie. It's one of those train wreck films that keeps you interested. I don't know if that's what you consider BRILLIANT but I don't.

Ken Park was the lesser known sequel to Kids. Different characters and it was never actually billed as the sequel, but same concept and the same director and writer. I prefer it over Kids, but different styles really. Kids was mostly a mellow film. Ken Park is more intense.

Kids was controversial at the time, but Ken Park is truly fucked up even 10 years later. Nobody talks about that one though. Watch it and you'll see why. lol
