That subway attack in South Korea.

Couldn't help but notice that only one person even bothered to mention this on GFY, and that thread got a whopping 2 replies. The tiniest little thing happens involving an Arab, and everyone is up in arms.

Something like 124 people were burned to death.

Is there some sort of benchmark for caring now? Do at least a thousand people have to die before it gets your attention?

You came to the wrong board, if their isn't any american no one will care. Oh if 7 people die in a Shuttle crash then will get all the care in the world. But when hundred dies somewhere that is not in the US and no US citizen was involved they don't give a rats ass.

Everyone on this planet is equal, doesn't matter where their from or what color they are.

Threshold lies at 637 at this moment, but it's expected to rise in the near future

(yes, ofcourse things like this are horrible, the only problem is that there is too much going on in this world to care about - if you would care about all horrible things happening every day, you'd spend your entire life in tears)

I understand what you're saying, but over 100 people is a pretty massive disaster. By no means, is this some every day tragedy.

Just another day - who really cares!

Millions of children die each day from starvation and most people are to cheap to sponsor one so who cares.

Live and let die - it's the American way!

Good point Chodadog... unfortunately it seems like people hear the word Korea and immediately turn off (assuming it's related to "the enemy".)
I think it's hil-arious that our president elect is going after a country with very little discernable weaponry (Iraq) when N. Korea is obviously the problem here. argh.

Uhm.

It wasn't an "attack" per-se.

It was some lunatic throwing a flaming whatever onto a moving train, which then caught another train on fire.

so basically more of a mass-murderer than a terrorist attack.

Had it been, say an attack carried out by some north koreans on the south korean train, I'm sure you'd hear quite a bit about it.

Basically it's an internal issue. The world doesn't hear about every train disaster here do they? We have more than a few each decade.

I never said it was a terrorist attack. Check your buzzwords at the front door. If someone walks up to me, and punches me in the face, that would be an attack.

Of course it was an attack.

So, say some guy walks through london, and shoots 15 people. That's not newsworthy, but how many nose jobs Michael Jackson has had, somehow is? Please.

The government missed the chance to take out North Korea. If North Korea was attacked they could nuke South Korea, killing 30,000+ US troops and millions of people.

Then N.Korea launches chemical missles at Japan - many die.

Then MAYBE if their long range missle(s) work they start hitting American cities and many die.... This is very iffy - who knows if they could or not.

If the US went in and nuked N.Korea in a surprise attack, many innocents would die, and there is still a good chance N.Korea would be left with some undamaged missles that could fire.

The US, wants to make sure no other country gets to the stage N.Korea is in. Iraq left alone would be a N.Korea in 20 years.
I could be wrong, but I bet Iraq will be attacked, then Iran and N.Korea will be sorted out peacefully.

I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that it was not a terrorist thing. Just some bozo went postal and, yes, sorry about that many deaths, but what can one say after all when it wasn't an organized thing and we know who's to blame, and we'll never really understand why a crazy guy does what he does?

Good point Frog. I'm not really advocating attacking anyone (esp. since two-front wars are never won) but the built-up around Iraq seems so overtop. Maybe since we've had people in S. Korea since that last pesky war over there it doesn't seem as dramatic. Japan being one of our most staunch allies puts them at a major risk makes me think we should be paying more attantion to Asia. But I forgot, they don't have oil.
