he's saying it's a ridiculous comparison as it's more a measure of the size of the market than the inherent value of the company, ie when china overtakes the US economy in 20 or so years most American companies will seem tiny in comparison. Of course im not saying that marketsize is the only factor, especially in this age of globalisation, but it is a predominant factor - "America on line" is always going to be 20 times larger than "Australia on line".

JeremySF 02-19-2003 12:29 AM

He's right there.....and actually Australia is has deployed 3,000 troops to the middle east, more than any other ally except for the UK.

Question: does the fact that you lost more men in WWII in relation to population mean you were more comitted or just not as good as fighters. :Graucho :Graucho

We liberate the east timorese and recieve terrorist activities like the bali bombing which targetted Australians.
Gain a wider understanding of the world that doesn't involve the TV and get back to us.

Probably meant we were there from the word go and didn't join late :)

When did you declare war on Germany? :Graucho

Speaking as someone who has been hipshitdeep in this same crappola (against Canada no less), I'd have to agree.

Your source?

bhutocracy 02-19-2003 12:37 AM

I really don't see the point in arguing economics between two modern market first world countries of vastly different size. It's not as if australian companies are any better or worse than american ones or vice-versa.. just fuckloads smaller.. which is a given, you may as well take issue with our small population.

And this is where lifestyle comes into it.

You stupid fuckers spend your lives working your arse off, obsessed with making more money than the next bloke, while we kick back in a tropical paradise and enjoy life... now tell me who the suckers are!

Groove 02-19-2003 12:39 AM

If you tossers are going to keep slagging off Australia the least you could do is put forward a rational argument base on fact! Or do I need to provide you with some ammunition?

Joe, you HONESTLY don't believe that nonsense, do you? I mean seriously.

I know some guys from Australia I have done business with that would completely disagree with you. That's like saying Australians are lazy and complacent.

Okay, here's one......

Australia has just as many conceited *elitist* snobbish lookin-down-their-nose assholes as any other country. How do I know this? Well, I once wandered into a yahoo chatroom marked "Australia".... and someone asked me where I's from.........I said Canada, and everyone started telling me to get the fuck out like I had airborn herpes or something.

Fuckin Aussie chat bastards! :ak47: :BangBang:

Come and have a look for yourself. You don't think you can really tell what life here is like from phone calls with a few Aussie work-a-holics, do you?

Maybe Sydney and Melbourne but not Brisbane. :glugglug :stoned

Maybe I've been well and truly Brisbanized but I've spent 6 months in the US and they work harder and longer than we do in my opinion.

hehehe.. thats kinda weird.. aussies and canadians usually mix well given a semi-common heritige and political leanings.

oh and yeah no country has a monopoly on elitist snobs. we have plenty.

Brisbane is a large country town in the redneck north... I don't believe it' possible to get anything done in the oppressive heat anywas :) I've worked alongside canadians, americans, HK'rs, japanese.. it's all the same in a decent company. If they worked harder it was because their positions were higher up the foodchain and it was part of being a COO or whatever.

Fair enough... I may have been appealing to a stereotype there... hehehe... I don't work very hard though and I go overseas for seven weeks every year! :Graucho

Life is good in Brissie.

CDSmith 02-19-2003 12:56 AM

There was a pedo named labret in that chat as I recall. I tried to engage him in a little entrapment, but he was busy with someone named "bummyboy_blue" at the time.

:) oh don't get me wrong.. I've moved to a place even more laid back than you.. the highest rate of living off the dole and surfing/smoking buds in the country.. but that doesn't mean I'd judge corporate ethic based on my surroundings. ALL Shops shut at 5-5:30pm here.. you can't get a video after 9:30-10pm.. but i've played the ratrace with the best of them in sydney.
