Prison populations are largely symptomatic of cultural problems, nothing else. Perhaps in Canada it's not a badge of honor, goving you respect from peers to do 7 years for armed robbery or some other retarded shit.
Cultural problems + worlds largest drug market = FAIL "Prisons are a business" doesn't explain why people commit violent crimes and end up in prison to begin with.

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. Those in prison are guilty, what's the problem with this. The land of the free, maybe you want it as the land of the criminals? Quote:

Part of why we have so many prisoners is because those who make money from the prisons realize that incarceration is good thing for them so they lobby for tougher sentencing on crimes. Those laws are easy sells for politicians who are eager to embrace them. More than that, though, is that the prisons do littler to actually rehabilitate a person. I read that if a person spends 24 months or more in prison there is an 80% chance they will end up back in prison at some point. These people end up mentally fucked up and have Post Incarceration Syndrome so the deck is stacked against them when they get out. Sure, if a person does some terrible crime I don't care if they ever get out, but if someone makes a mistake, commits a crime and goes to jail for a few years I would hope they could get out, get a job and make something of their life, but the system is not set up to work that way. |
