---paypal thievery---

Obviously I should have known better, i.e.; fooled me once shame on you?fooled me twice shame on me.

Now, not so incredibly, Paypal not only "limits" your account to steal your money, they also simply send random nonsense replies to any contact emails sent to customer service in an attempt to resolve the issue.

All this, for a lousy $300 bucks.

what's the full story? what exactly happened? they just limited your account over nothing, or did some transaction trigger it? obviously your account is full verified?

If you want a real treat, try dealing with PayPal support staff. Now there's an experience you could write a book about.

Paypal just stealing money.

Business must be pretty shitty for them to so eagerly steal a lousy few hundred bucks. Must be part of their busines model now since they're not even responding to my emails.

I have a PayPal business account and have transferred all kinds of money back and forth and have never had one single issue. Those of you that bitch about it must be doing it wrong or using it for things that Paypal does not allow (like adult).

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with Paypal, and I hate to say this, but it is probably your fault.

Paypal lets you buy and sell things and transfer money to and from people of course, but just like billers, they have a strict terms of service, and they are very clear and up front about what the penalties are if you break the terms of service.

People find it really easy to trash billers, but find it very difficult to talk to them. People seem to think that they are out to screw people over, which is not true. Think about it like this : They WANT you to use their service. How do you think they make money?

If you have a Paypal account, or Google, CCBill, Epoch etc account, and you are not sure about what you are allowed to sell or how, CALL THEM. It is so damn easy. Just pickup the phone and call Paypal or whoever and ask them if what you want to do is within their TOS or not.

You owe it to the success of your business to be informed of their rules and play by them. If you had an employee who couldn't get off his ass to make a call and get some basic information about a product or service you depended on, you'd kick him to the curb, wouldn't you? Don't be that lazy fuck - be informed instead.

PayPal is the best platform out there in terms of accessibility.

Everyone has a PayPal account, and furthermore.. I don't know of too many places you can go in and join with a few details and start receiving money instantly. Especially for non verified accounts with no social security etc.

Paypal don't just steal money. I work with Paypal at an executive level in our copyright enforcement work, they have clearly defined policies none of which will place you under account limitation if you're doing the right thing. So what's the full story ?

Was your account limited for breaching their TOS ? If so your account may be limited for up to 180 days after which they will transfer the money into a bank account nominated by you.

If your account was limited due to reaching sending or receiving limits for unverified accounts then they ask you to submit documentation and after you do so your account will be unlimited.

So, what's the full story ?

OK .... I realize the frustrations of the OP, but I am sure this will be resolved ...

What the OP forgot to mention -- in all fairness to Paypal here -- is that he made a payment to an American entity (ME), with an American issued debit card, while currently abroad/overseas.

If I was a payment clearing house, I would definately RED FLAG this transaction too - and the OP should be grateful that Paypal is this militant with their transactions ... especially when traveling abroad and the potential for fraud is great(er).

Paypal is a HUGE company, and does not have a personal relationship with every client, contrary to popular belief. The fact that a similar thing happened to the OP in April - when he was last abroad - means that Paypal's alert system is doing it's job.

I understand one's need to vent 'in the heat of the moment' ... but having dealt with paypal for the 14+ years they have been in business, I can without any doubt tell you they will not "steal" any money from you .... let them do their due diligence, and they will release your funds.

It might even be a good idea BEFORE you travel abroad, to call Paypal from the US and let them know your travel itinerary, so that if "questionable transactions do occur on your card, that they will have notes in your account - or even better yet use a US-Based VPN to tunnel to an American IP when doing sensitive transactions.

Not true - I set up a paypal years ago, using the ONLY domain that I owned - My wife's name... (Who yes, happened to *be* a pornstar... But point is I want using the email of [email protected] etc)

I wanted to use to send child support back to the UK from the US...

Worked three times then suddenly banned

I explained it was child support, but they didnt give a fuck - Still NEVER got my money back, even today...

Genuine story and genuine grievance (On Principal)

Fuck PayPal !

Likewise, in 2004, I did some web-dev for a company that sold 'Adults Night Out' packages...

The Concept was that adults bought a package to get a night out, away from the family and kids...

OK, there was a 'Romantic' slant on it... That was the sales pitch... But it was 100 miles away from it, being EVEN SLIGHTLY PORNO - It was baby sitter discounts and restaurant reservations, discounted theatre tickets and stuff... - Because it had 'Adult' in the name... They got screwed too...

ahh yeh, that is unfair then. i think that is a very rare case though, simply because of the domain and you probably had some total idiot on support.

Yeah, like I say, I dont hold any animosity... But the name was just my wife's LEGAL NAME - Not anything 'Dirty' or 'Suggestive'..

But like I said, it happened agin 2 years later, because the domain contained the word 'Adult'...

TBH, it could not have been a more legit, mainstream and NON ADULT company - Even if the Pope himself had run it...

My point is that yeah, play clever cunts, and you'll get caught - and rightly so... But they do go in heavy handed and gung-ho on occasions too...

Paypal have pretty firm procedures for limited accounts, if an account has been terminated the funds are normally held for 180 days and then available for withdrawal either from the Paypal account or via a form that you send to them nominating an account to receive the funds.

The 180 day limitation is to cover the period the account may be subject to chargebacks or reversals.

The problem is many people forget to log in and follow the required steps to get their funds and then blame Paypal for stealing it.

With respect, I fully agree with you in 2012... The info is out there and easily available...

But back in 2002 - Sorry - But... It wasn't

So, I get a load of shit off my X - "Wheres my FUCKING MONEY!!! " then I ask paypal, and they basically suggest I have committed (the equilant) of rape of a minor, and wont indulge me in ANY DIALOG...

But, that WAS ten years ago...

They're better at communicating the terms and conditions now than they were then that's for sure.

Out of interest have you tried logging into the account since or sending a support request to them ?

I was explaining all of this to an adult webmaster recently, who had their account frozen when Paypal stopped doing Adult, it took a bit of too and fro but he got his $600 back.

No, I havent - Not cause 'I cant be bothered' I'm not apathetic about it...

But in truth, I just really dont remember the exact preface to the @ email I used, or the password, plus its 10 years ago and, and yada yada... etc... and $180 THESE DAYS... is neither here nor there...

All that annoys me, is when people say that paypal are 'whiter-than-white'... (Which, quite possibly, they may well be THESE days) my gut churns with my own past, personal experiences...

I dont care about what the 'adult night out' peeps lost, cause its not my money, and I dont *really* care about my 180... I just care that at the time, I got a load of shit from my X, who then stopped my boy from visiting me in America.... and I DO blame THAT on paypal...

But anyway - I'll stop now - I feel that not only have I made my point... But to continue would become very personal with paypal (RE MY SON) and not really applicable, or of use to the everyday paypal user of 2012

From first hand experience, I can tell you can be adversely affected when someone you deal with has their account investigated, as the transactions themselves become part of that account's investigation and what seems to be a for a specific time frame.

Paypal's policy is not limited to adult transactions. Rather, they have to comply with rules governing the handling of transactions, both foreign and domestic. It's unfortunate that it can indeed disrupt innocent bystanders as it were. But in the end, things get worked out for anyone complying with the rules.

Hehe, I remember one time sending $150 to a person in Australia and that person actually getting a call from Paypal asking what it was for. For $150. Not $1,500, or $15,000 -- we're talking $150 (hmm, hearing Allen Iverson in my head... "we're talking about practice"). Just a little programming fix I needed.

Thanks. I've been having problems getting into my ICQ account for the last while. Occasionally it lets me log in but lately it seems to just give me an error and won't allow me to connect.

Probelm resolved by a nice human being from the executive office who also offered a reasonable solution to avoid this happening again.

paypal actually isn't so bad if you are outside of the english speaking world. I used to have tons of problems, then I changed my language in the paypal settings from english to polish and no one ever phones me from there. The one time i did get my account restricted I managed to speak to a person that had some authority rather then an indian call center worker reading off a piece of paper.

But, that WAS ten years ago...
Several years ago my GF was selling a CD of nudes and collecting the money through Paypal. I was doing a check on state unclaimed property sites and Paypal had sent the state of Calif. $20 (the CD charge) to Unclaimed Property. Might check the site out, as it doesn't cost anything. Hardest part is just having paperwork showing you lived at the address Paypal had listed for you.

If it was 2002, Paypal should have sent the money to the state by now. CA laws requires the money be sent if Paypal has heard from you in 3 years.

It pays to check every 6-12 months with each state you lived in or may have done business in. I've scored $5000 in royalties for my GF's brother. I scored my mom a couple of thousand, part of which was a 79 year-old insurance policy. Thank goodness the address on her birth certificate matched the listed address. Also check any business names you had and be sure to check abbreviations, such as Amer. for American.

Got to love these threads when somebody claims funds got stolen yet does not say what exactly happened.
