We received a call from Ama zon

They are interested in selling one of our product lines with good status as an invited vendor.

They need 50 items listed which won't be a problem, but it looks like a lot of admin work to keep inventory control up. Does anyone have any experience with Ama zon and have the sales been worth the effort?

i think he means Amazon

Pretty cool though they call you up and say hey, we want to sell your stuff

It's worth the shot if you ask me, Amazon is huge and so is the potential to sell your stuff worldwide in large numbers. Worst case scenario you hire a 18 yo to keep up with inventory

Amazon found one of our product line sites through the search engines. I didn't think it was wise to start a thread with their name in it.

If anyone has any real experience with them,I would appreciate hearing about it.

I sell on Amazon, three products. It was definitely worth listing.

Feel free to contact me and I can tell you more about the system.

I have sold lots of computers/laptops on Amazon, they do everything right in my book, way better then Ebay.

you can list your items once without ever thinking about having to re-list, and the fees are less, customer support is better

And most things sell on Amazon for more money on average then Ebay as people who shop Amazon have a higher net worth etc, more about being simple the finding the best deal etc.

The results will still return for "Amazon" because a space makes no difference.

They did the same with me - "Invited" us to sell our stuff. Gave it a shot and built up a store with over 2k items. When all is said and done, their crazy rules / terms / shitty support that DOES NOT favor the seller, high fee's and other seller competition selling for nickles over cost made it so there was nothing to be made. We ended up pulling out.

If you have zero competition for your items, do it. If not you will end up working your ass off for nothing but a huge headache. Amazon is like selling tshirts, you will do a large volume (if you get the buybox) with little profit so it makes it not worth it. At least for me.

Amazon has some odd tiers for what commissions they will take. It can be anywhere from 15% to 40% based on the category of the item. We accidentally listed the product in one of the 40% commission categories, which would be an absolute no-go for us. We called them up and switched it to one of the 15% categories.

15% commission is still a lot considering we're doing our own fulfillment, but better than pay Amazon the 15% than loose the order.

No one seems to know what Minte does... He's always vague about it.

It's very odd really.

Well? I don't know that this is the case, but just hear me out?

Let's say that you own a company that sells toy trucks. You contract Minte to create said toy trucks. You later find out that this guy Minte is on some porn message board "bragging" about creating the toy trucks that your company sells.

What do you do? I find a different manufacturer. My customers, my stockholders, hell probably even my wife is not going to be too thrilled about that news.

Yes because you're so important, and since you're the only one they talk to, Amazon is going to search their own name to see if they could find what you really think about their 'offer'.

from my basic understanding of what Minte does, as another friend of mine is in manufacturing... his company can pretty much make anything out of anything, as long as their equipment can handle the desired material, and the size and complexity of the object.

most things manufacturers make are not final products that you would know, one factory might make wheels for a toy truck, while another makes the body, then they are assembled elsewhere. whoever assembles and markets it, puts their name on it.

some manufacturers are actually bound by contract not to release their name or product as a client.

Minte, do you do any thermo-forming? as for amazon, it can be lucrative but they have a lot of competition and some strange rules which can be hard to work with. however if you have a unique product and have shipping, supply chain etc well managed, you should be able to do OK, as long as it isn't in one of their higher commission groups of products.

Our plastics division molds over 800 different parts from food processing equipment(think hamburgers)material handling devices(think BIG aircraft engines)waste management containers, flotation devices,,,,think Pamela Anderson. Our largest product line is a company I also own. We manufacture tires for agricultural equipment. We make gaming equipment. Think guitar hero. Today, that's pretty much done. We are making motorcycles for arcade games. Most of the things we mold go with things that other people make into an ultimate assembly.
We sell very little to the ultimate consumer.

Our metals division makes many items for the door and window industry. Latch plates, patio door locks, patio door rollers. If you take the skin off most semi-trailers you will find rollformed ribs, etc that we make.

Basically, I will never give out a customers name on a board or to anyone, unless you are my banker or accountant.

Quite frankly, it's no ones business who we sell to.

I should've scrolled down before I responded to rochard. You are exactly correct in everything you posted. No thermoforming(yet) I hope that later in 2013 we will start.

One of our product managers is working with amazon. I have only heard bits and pieces of it so far. I don't know a lot about how they do things, and at the end of the day will go along with whatever decision the team makes. As long as it's well planned and thought out.

I was told that they found our product through a search engine. Do you understand how those work? They haven't made us an offer. They asked us to sell one of our product lines.

If that makes you think I am so important, don't ever come to my office. You will certainly hyperventilate and probably piss yourself.

I just piss myself thinking about what an office looks like with that avatar. I imagine the plastics biz has been very good to you. Probably much more so than Porn even. You take plastic and create cool stuff. I envy successful biz guys like you. Keep kicking ass bro!
