Meaningful relationships are out there, but very limited in number.

Because of all the pressures everyone has to deal with to make money, raise children, etc. you basically have to look at a potential spouse in ways beyond just the love factor. In the old days there was more clarity and structure. Now its a free for all out there.

I wouldn't strive to find a meaningful relationship. Just see whatever comes your way and hopefully some will be good. Most will be use jobs, so just prepare yourself mentally, financially, and emotionally for that to happen and you won't be caught off guard.

There are two factors in a meaningful relationship. The little one is the dynamic between the two people. Without compatibility, and a little luck, it won't happen.

The big one is the character of the two people. No person who doesn't know how to truly be in a relationship can be. No person who can't care honestly for another person can be. Many people are apparently too superficial for that kind of relationship.

Not everyone, though. If you can trust, and you can have compassion, its surprisingly easy. Oddly, it appears to be very rare. That's the part that makes me sad.

Hmmmm Well... I am to old to be caught of guard, but it does amase me that so many only date for just that reason. everyone seems to get more materialistic as time progresses, and the standards for relationships change and are based on more shallow means. i've been in 2 serious relationships (one i'm in now) and i make sure that i get to know the fuckin person rather than jumping into an "official" relationship right after i met her.

the primary reasons most relationships fail are because people are basically fucking stupid. if you want a serious relationship, heres a few pointers.

1. use some fucking sense when you meet a person. generally if you meet a person in a bar who happens to be trashed, HMMM, in most cases it would appear that they aren't a great candidate.

2. don't automatically assume the person is GREAT just because of a first impression. (yeah, girls your retarded when it comes to this)

3. don't jump into anything official until you've known the person long enough, which will vary depending on the person themselves, usually atleast 2 months.

4. if you wanna fuck then go ahead, but don't make it the basis of the relationship.

5. trust the person until you have a reason not to. just because you've been fucked over before doesn't mean it'll happen again. (girls generally do this)

6. be HONEST, caring, sweet, thoughtful etc... etc... (basically don't be an asshole)

these are a few of the fundamentals that it'd take to keep a relationship going. and seeing as to how i'm posting this on an awm board, few of you will actually understand or use this, ultimately resulting in more and more v-day's alone. sure, fuckin random people is great but there'll be a point in ur life will you wont be able to get any (without paying) and you'll be left alone. then most of you will probably regret having that "RELATIONSHIPS SUCK!" mentality.

Its a luck thing. The luck of finding a person you are compatible with who you can also trust and respect.

The frusterating thing is its harder these days to find the type of girl youd want to have a long term relationship with. Either they are golddiggers, not trustworthy, or have a really permiscuous past. Theres no way I would marry a girl thats been with a bunch of guys. Thats like buying a new car that already has 50,000 miles on it.

As for the nice guy vs prick success. You have to find a balance. Girls do not want a nice guy that comes off deserate, needy, weak. They want a man. Yes, if you act like a jerk and play a lot of mind games you will get laid more. But any girl that is attracted to guys that mistreat them has an unhealthy personality and is better off being avoided

One of the big things is mobility. In the old days women were at home. Now after women's lib changed it all, and the economic costs just to get by forced so many women into the career market they have lots of options they never had before.

My ex started playing around when she got bored tired of doing the mom thing and shopping and wanted to have a career and got into a corporate position and was traveling all the time. She had flings with the CEO, VP, and many corporate co-workers she traveled with. It was a tough position to be in for me since I wanted to tell her to take a fucking walk, but at the same time we had a young child together and I kept thinking she would get over this midlife crisis and wild phase she was going through.
She also started drinking all the time, which I think fucked her head up even more.

This was my 2nd marriage and the last thing I wanted to do was go through another divorce, especially with a child involved. So I just bit the bullet and figured it was the beginning of the end and I would just let everything run its course. She never fell in love with anyone else just turned into a total nympho. My father was like this also, always had girls on the side but never fell in love with any of them and always stayed in love with my mother.

So that's why I said in my earlier post my opinion of meaningful relationships is they are very rare these days. My ex's lack of respect and consideration for our relationship has tainted my thoughts forever. I can't imagine every trusting a women again and don't even want to try. I'm just assuming from the get go they are all tricky and have an agenda for your money and whatever else they can get out of you. Its a pathetic stance, but this is what you feel when you've been fucked over.

Right now the only thing I trust is my dog. His true blue affection and loyalty are the only thing I know I can count on in this world.
