dont use quicktime for editing.
if you have a pc, use adobe premiere.
if you have a mac (which is better for this) use final cut pro which is the best shit ever.

if you dont have mac, buy one.
then download carracho
http://www.carracho.com (client)

then search all the servers for software and download this app for freakin free.

Or you can get Vegas Video 4. Which is already giving some of the top software makers a run for their money.

http://www.creativecow.net/articles/...rev/index.html

I don't use Final Cut or premiere, but a friend does. I think he has to render all his effects once before he can even preview them. I've only ever used vegas video, and I've never, ever had to render anything before previewing. The heaviest I've gone so far was about a 12 layer segment. I mean that I had 12 audio and video tracks all running for a segment of one of the CFF movies. Some tracks were audio fx, and some was text, while others were adjustment tracks, and cross fades, and the machine never even slowed down, and I was able to edit real time... not rendering a single frame before preview. I've gotten used to the speed. if I had to wait for shit to render, I'd pull my hair out. I'm already hi-strung as it is.

I think it has the fastest learning curve as far as video editing softare goes. (IMO), but then again I've never learned anything else. I've seen some other interfaces for other programs, and boy howdy they look complex. And in the end, the same look is achieved.

Vegas Video and Adobe Premiere are great if you're going for a "hollywood" style edit. If you just wanna trim clips and clean up a long clip, don't go wasting your money or hard drive space on those bulky programs.

Virtual Dub takes care of business.

In conjunction...

...you could use Microsoft paint for simple graphics. No need for dumb, and way over priced programs like Photo Shop Pro or whatever it's called. Surfers don't really care anyways, they just want the goods.

No need for real women. All surfers want are pics of pussy so you might as well just use ASCII images.

I'm just following the trend in the thread.

If that's all you need to do, try this program. :

http://www.jhepple.com/FxMovieSplitter.htm

For regular video editing, we use Pinnicle Systems Studio DV for most of our editing and Vegas Video for more complex editing. Studio DV is a home video editor, but does about 98% of what we need, including slicing, transistions, screen captures, color correction and is very easy to learn (much easier the premiere or vegas). We only use Video Vegas for complex crops and pans where we want to edit out some of the backgroudn and for building complex multi-track intros (like on the teasers for BackSeatBangers.com and HornyGrocer.com).
