Question: Non swing state voters
Many of you live in a state where it really doesn't matter who you want, your state always goes red or blue. Do you still vote red or blue?
I was thinking if I lived in one of those states, it'd suck if I didn't personally go along with the politics of the majority in my state. At the same time, you might feel even more free to vote for the candidate you really want instead of playing the red vs blue game. Or maybe you'd just quit bothering with it altogether, and let the swing states play the politics game.

Well as someone that used to be in a blue state and now live in a swing state I used to vote for who I wanted. Now my vote has to be more strategic and I am voting for a color.
They want it that way. Will be harder to empower third party candidates. If the lessor of two evils in my mind loses in Florida because I voted third party I am going to feel like I fucked myself. |

I'm in Texas, so I will likely vote for Gary Johnson in hopes they get 5% so there will be a 3rd party splitting the federal funds next time, best I can affect it..

I'm in New York
Federal elections are always blue here, but there are many heavily contested local elections that often impact lives more than the federal outcome. Voting isn't about only one election. |

If your state always votes red, did you still feel some urgency to make sure you both voted red too? Do you feel that there's a slight bit of danger that your state could go blue this time?

Sure, and I didn't specify the Presidential election but of course that's what I meant. With that criteria, does it change anything? Do you feel like you could vote for a 3rd party?

Strange that I have a silent public sneeze variation, aren't they supposed to be involuntary? I think I fell into the trap.

Swing states don't matter anyway as we saw with the Gore/Bush election as popular vote might be won by one person but he Electoral college gives the presidency to the other.

I don't think you're in any danger of New York not voting for Obama, if you voted for someone you really preferred.

I live in a blue state. Like Wizzo I will be voting for Johnson, although I likely would have even if I was in a swing state.
I think you are right in that a lot of people end up not voting because they know it won't matter since their state is either red or blue. To me that is one of the reasons we need to do away with the electoral college. |
