Figures delivered by Brian Utley, representative of the National Aeronautics Association, the US arm of the international organization of record, during the Red Bull Stratos press conference say Baumgartner hit 834mph (1,342kph) or mach 1.24 during his freefall.

It says this on redbull website
Quote:

Mission Success! Felix makes historical jump. With preliminary data: 1st to break the speed of sound in freefall and several other records.

How long before Romney claims credit for this?

What was he wearing? It looks like a winter jacket and work boots - and does he have a toolbox duct taped to his ass?

The guy who jumped today had a much better suit. We've come a long way.

Don't want to take anything away from Felix but duct tape, a toolbox and a shitty helmet nobody is going to beat joe Kittinger for balls of steel.

This old guy going through the check list is a retard.

That's Joe Kittenger, the last record holder from the 1950s or 1960s... A vet.

mikesouth 10-15-2012 05:04 PM

come on guys yall are better at math and physics than that

first the sound barrier (Mach 1) is a function of many things, but mostly air density at his starting altitude the sound barrier would have been much lower than it is at sea level, BUT the lower his altitude the higher mach one goes and the SLOWER he goes...so deploying the chute when he did had NOTHING to do with it, my that time he had slowed to a terminal velocity of at most 150-200 MPH.

The question is did he reach a high enough speed in the thin air to to hit mach one at some point in the fall, remember as he goes down, mach one goes up AND he starts slowing down once he hits terminal velocity.

Most reports say that he did but he is likely NOT the first person to do it, Kittenger almost certainly did it back in 1959, though that has been argued for a long time.

it has been confirmed and the other guy was much slower

Yeah, I read that today. I take back my retarded comment. Clearly the man has much bigger balls than I do.

Much bigger.
