NYC's planned ban on large sodas....retarded...

"Scheduled to begin at midnight, the law would have restricted the sale of sugary drinks to no more than 16 ounces in restaurants, fast-food eateries, movie theaters, and stadiums."

Yes people are obese in America but we should still have the right to buy whatever size drink we want...other thoughts?

People can't help themselves and obesity is an epidemic. Think about how much being overweight costs the economy overall. It also effects gas mileage.

do you know how much sugar is in a regular can a soda, now thinking about a 32oz where most people refill. I stopped drinking soda like 6yrs ago. I use to hate drinking water or non-sugary drinks now I drink 5-8 glasses of water a day without even thinking

If people are dumb enough to buy them its a good thing that someone takes care for it. I do not see any harm here. Plus dumbfucks still could buy 2*16oz and so on

Thank god i live in Canada then. What a intriguing opinion . I am large beautiful and don't eat myself to death. I actually am doing everything possible not to over eat. i eat once a day now and survive on coffee. some days i forget to eat I'm so busy with work. Should i be banned ? Interesting outtake on things for sure. It is solely the responsibility of each individual to stuff their face full off food or soft drinks. I personally am totally fine with being a larger woman lol i get more attention than i need haha And i enjoy my treats like everyone else. I was lucky i got blessed with massive breasts though lol Many big over weight obese people struggle trying to get it off after years of over eating. putting it on is easy as shit getting rid of it? a entirely diff story. In my opinion if people wish to drink tons of soda and eat tons of junk it is their choice. I made the mistake years ago of gaining weight now i am 100% fine with exactly who i am. Ive dropped over 50 pounds in the last year but because i am still very big this means anyone my size or bigger should be banned? way to deal with the real issue get rid of them all and poof problem solved, lmao

If people want to drink 32oz of Pepsi or Coke they will do it, banning that serving size will just make them buy 2 16's. I personally enjoy soda, namely Pepsi (or my true fav is Irn Bru but I don't get it much outside of Scotland) but I don't go crazy on it these days. I used to drink easily 1 litre per day of soda, more like 2 if I am honest but nowadays I have 1-2 cans per week, if that. I drink 5-7 litres of water per day and have stopped ordering soda in restaurants with food. The only time I will have one is maybe a Saturday night if I'm watching a movie at home or in the cinema. Awareness of how bad it is for you got me like this, not banning certain sizes.

The reason youre struggling is because you've brought your metabolism to a halt by eating so little. The way to deal with the issue is by exercise and balanced diet not by malnourishing yourself. And not for nothing but your boobs are made up of fat...so for them to be large while youre overweight is not mindblowing. Kind of like abs on a skinny kid. Muscle speeds up metabolism and is responsible for the majority of your caloric intake being burned, you can only burn so much fat when you have no muscle base to begin with. You'd be doing yourself a great injustice to yourself and your body to not exercise. The way I look at things, is that you get as much respect as you give yourself. If you dont respect the one body, one life, one set of organs you have why bother?

Not really. Lots of them buy 32 oz because its a "good deal", they "save" money (price per oz is lower than price per oz if you buy smaller portion).
Without these "savings" there would be no point to buy 2*16 when 1*16 is enough.
Its not that most of them stay thirsty after drinking "only" 16 oz..

You can't protect the dumb from themselves.

People can buy and drink a gallon of hard liquor in one sitting if they so choose as well. Should we therefore ban anything larger than half pint size bottles of whiskey?

Allowing Darwin's Law to play out isn't really such a bad thing for society as a whole anyway.

This was doomed to fail but I respect their attempt.

The problem is bigger than this. Big companies engineer this stuff and they line up behaviourists and chemists and scientists to manipulate the human animal and a large portion of the population has no defense whatsoever. I'm not a fan of regulation or big government, but, the exploitation and gouging of populations through these means (selling subsidized sugar water at 10000% markup..) along with all the other shit food that goes with it is a crime.

People say, 'well everyone has common sense, it's their choice'. Sure it is. But the facts are, the majority don't, or are not able, to cope, and that's getting worse. It's not a fair fight when you have an industry dedicated to the downfall of the health of the nation by its very nature. It's a fact that prenatal diet affects metabolism of the fetus and this will reinforce tendencies that already have advertising, social pressures, financial considerations, etc all piling up on top. Nothing happens in a vacuum.

The fact is, we all pay , not for allowing people to make bad choices, but FOR ALLOWING THE INDUSTRIAL "BIG FOOD" to get rich on the backs of the health of the nation, which is eventually, paid for in medical costs and lost productivity.

Isn't it about time somebody put a stop to this? All the first world nations are running towards the financial abyss where their shrinking population is unable to support the excesses that have become commonplace.

Look around you. This is what Rome looked like before shit went down.

1 litre is fuck all.

Like I said, I rarely drink soft drink (maybe once a month if even that much), however 1 litre *size* is not huge.

You can buy 2 litre drinks and pretty sure they had 3 litre. I was expecting the American size to be a 44 gallon drum or somehting ridiculous like that. 1 litre is certainly not anything huge - yes sugars are off the charts, however the volume is not that great. The average size bottle of soft drink here is 600ml.

I'm talking about drinking it during 1 meal. Then 1 liter is a crazy amount. You must be talking about something else?

There is a thing called Diet Soda. Its not like you can only put regular soda in there. I know diet soda isnt good either. Just the point.

1 liter of soda is good for 2 people with some pizza ;)

Well in one sitting yes far too much, would rather eat a meal than fill up with bubbles and sugar.

However i'll admit that i'm guilty of drinking far more than a litre of alcohol during a meal many a time

Once authorities have exhausted all these crazy new rules and laws like limiting drink size etc, they will finally come the conclusion that the only way to force the problem to start solving itself is to impose a 'fat tax'.

Once grossly obese people start having to pay extra you can bet your ass a lot of extra weight will start getting dropped.

After all the initial bitching and outrage dies down of course.

Why should the victims of multinational billionaire big food companies making obscene profits be made to pay, when really the blame falls upon those rich multinationals?

It's funny how we have people that rant and rave constantly about how the goverment is trying to control us, yet no one seems to give a shit about a law restricting how much soda we can buy.

Its more like Anti-Fatso, we live in a country filled with people that have no self control. Everyone is in credit card debt, housing debt, no education. All of these things are brought about because of the freedoms we have. I am all for freedom. But maybe too much isnt such a good thing.
