D&d
So, loads of us are geeks, and most of the geeks probably played AD&D or D&D for a while.
I grew out of it about aged 16. As most people do. If you ever wondered what happened to the people that didn't grow out it, watch The Dungeon Masters (on netflix). Fucking good documentary about fat geeks with no social skills. |

Tried it in private school but wasn't for me. I prefered playing hockey instead.

I never played D&d (as you call it). I played guitar. I got the chicks your Cheeto-stained dice-rolling fingers stroked your dick over while you were lying in bed alone.
I'm old now and those times are gone. At least I have better memories than memories of dice and dragons... ...and basements ...and board games |

I played guitar and AD&D. I even wrote a module for it, but it wasn't published unfortunately. Yeah, thats right. I wrote a game module for dungeons and dragons back in the mid 80's barely before I bought my first computer. I still have several sets of hand painted Grenadier figures. Including.... lizard men.
I remember when Gama World came out, I picked up the first game module for it. It involved your party coming back to conciousness and realizing you were in a chicken factory. Only problem was that the chickens had mutated and were now about 6 feet tall. These Hyper Chickens were the first monsters, and totally "borrowed" by Futurama for their hyper chicken lawyer character. Here ends my +4 post of distraction. obtained 2 gold pieces. ![]()

One of my earliest memories - maybe about age three - is coming downstairs in the middle of the night to find my parents and their friends playing D&D with our kitchen being the DM's HQ. They started me on an early geek path in life. |

We played D&D and took it very, very seriously. It got the point where we bought huge graph paper - like three feet by thee feet - and would spend weeks designing our own castles, which others would then attack. It was brutal.
Eventually we moved over to another game created by TSR called Top Secret, which was very similar but set in the modern day. Players were secret agents fighting the cold war, driving fancy sports cars, etc etc. We created huge player characters and back stories, had pictures of our characters and their girlfriends.... We had so much with this stuff. To this day I still have the original Top Secret game in it's box in my closet behind me.

I really liked it in 7th grade (1982?) but grew tired of the game itself after that and just liked the artwork. I still like fantasy artwork.

I played D&D and Marvel Super Heroes in school. I was pretty into it and played it most weekends. That slowed down my senior year when I got a job and a car then after graduation it pretty much died off.
Although about 10 years later I got invited to play in a game and I went and it was just kind of sad. |

I played D&D many many years ago. Just saw a group of weirdos sitting on a bench playing one day when I was high as shit and asked if I could play. They said no, I have to sit and watch first for a few days. I did, and played and it was aight. I ended up getting one of the female players to give me head one drunk night, and she was one of the other players ex. So one day they argued about it, I let it be known I didn't give a shit about the situation and I never saw them again. They apparently found another bench somewhere else. Fuck them.

I stopped playing D&D ages ago, though I'm still a roleplayer and play/run other systems on a regular basis.
When I worked at a juvenile detention facility I regularly ran games for the girls. Taught cooperation and critical thinking. And at the time it was D&D there was also some math in there. I figure my husband and I will be 80 and still rolling dice. |

I was playing 2nd edition AD&D between the age of 12-17 every friday evening/night or so and it was great times, i have very nice memories
Later I was playing Baldur's gate and the related games, not bad at all, but pen & paper was the best. I gave my special dices to my daughters who handle them as some big and unique treasure ![]()

We had a little D&D club back in school when I was 12
We met and played in a special classroom, on Tuesday lunchtimes and even made a lil magazine out of 8 pages of paper, folded over and stapled together. We sold it after assembly for 10 p a copy, and sold about 10 Entire thing lasted about one term, then we all lost interest |

I Just watched it.
It was depressing and the ending was annoying. They spew some philosophical nonsense, tack on some feel good music, show a flag and we're supposed to feel ok about the slow motion human train wrecks we just witnessed.

My dad emailed me yesterday.
They're moving house after 35 years and he found my 'The Citadel of Chaos' book in the loft amongst loads of other crap and asked if I wanted it. |

I played Magic:The Gathering. (Spent a small fortune on the rare cards too only for the whole thing to come crashing down)

I used to play, then I discovered Magic The Gathering.
I will certainly look for that movie on netflix, though!

Only time I've seen people playing D&D was at school, and just thought it was silly and boring. I still generally think that about online role-playing games today, but if they're not hurting anyone who cares how fat or anti-social the players are.

I used to play that as well and I got very lucky with it. My friends and I started playing it right when it first came out. We played off and on for a few years. One of my buddies even entered a few tournaments. Talk about your geek gatherings lol. After a few years we got a little bored of it and stopped. I ended up selling all my cards. It turns out most of the cards I had were from the first two series that were released so they were worth several thousand dollars. I was very happy.

I used to play AD&D heavily in the 90s. I still have the character sheets, dice and Dragon magazines. I picked up a few other rpgs during that time including GURPs, Stormbringer, Twilight 2000, Chill and Villains & Vigilantes. My little group even came up with our little rpg. Unfortunately, half of the group moved away and our original Dungeon Master has went AWOL.

Pen'n'Paper roleplaying introduced me to a solid group of friends I've known for 25 years and counting. Every single one of them are successful today, we still meet up on a regular basis (though we don't play). The group counts a school teacher, an army intelligence officer (manager of spies lol), tax officer, 2xCEO's of medium sized companies and a couple of programmers.
We have played D&D, AD&D (2nd & 3rd ed), Rifts, Rolemaster, Call'of'Cutulu and probably more I can't remember right now

I picked it up again a few years later between the Onslaught and Kamigawa sets, and then realised how cheap my super-rares had become. I had two Mox's, a few dual lands and a bunch of nice alpha and betas (such as birds of paradise, forcefield, mindwalk etc). You know, the good ones! I never quite got round to getting a lotus though, but I'm glad I didn't! I guess it actually saved me money in the long run though, because when I picked it up 2nd time around I was buying booster boxes in the same way I was buying boosterpacks the first time 'round! If the value was still there, every cent would probably end up getting wasted on cards instead of carefully spending my money on drink, drugs and hookers.
