Fuck your VeriSign!
I think we all know that VeriSign is the biggest piece of shit fucked up comany out there.... they have got to be losing customers in staggering numbers... they lost my business when DirectNIC launched but unfortunately I have to deal with those fucks to get a domain name transferred.
I sent (well my partner faxed me and I in turn faxed them) all of the documents and IDs and hair, urine, blood sample results and everything else they want from you to their fax machine which is actually a computer although they are calling it a "Fax Department" 48 hours ago... I called 24 hours ago to check the status and they conveniently did not receive the fax so I re-sent it... 12 hours ago I called to confirm they have gotten the fax and they told me it will take 24 hours for them to get it... so then I called back 6 hours ago to check again and the guy said it takes 24 hours... so I said WTF - you can't tell me if you have gotten the fax? What if another 24 hours goes by and you still do not get it? so then he tells me about this special "expedited" fax number I can send it... so I fax the fucking papers again to that number and called back just now and the guy tells me they don't have the fax... so I told him I sent it to the special number... turns out that number is no different and goes to the same machine... what a fucking piece of shit that guy is that gave me that number... so now the guy I just talked to told me to try again in the morning and if it does not work to call back sit on hold for 30 minutes to find out I have to fax the fucking thing again... (I just had to vent?.) |

I'm sure 1,000 other people are as well....
Who is going to pay extra for a domain name and not get anything but problems for it? I guess back in the day you had to but not anymore... I could see paying extra if customer service was actually helpful when you call but fuck... they got some dumb ass mother fuckers running the show over there... I think worse then AOL customer service has ever had (back when I use to use them at least - I'm sure it is the same) I remember when I had to call VeriSign to get a host record changed... hah! I'm not even going to go there... On top of it who is going to pay $350.00 for a security certificate when you can get one from GeoTrust for $100 and get it instantly? When I got my first security cert from them a few years back you had to fax them some bullshit... More recently I had to renew for a friend of mine and they wanted me to do the same bullshit... that is when I found GeoTrust. They have a automated system and you get it instantly without the bullshit not to mention it is less then half the price... |

as someone who owns hundreds of domain names i will have to say:
verisign and networksolutions are the WORST entities i have ever done business with, online or offline. and i am slowly moving all my domains out. their wholesale partner portal and VIP shit is all hype and bullshit, the whole company must be built by nerds who have never dealt with actual human beings. their system is overpriced, inefficient, clumsy and works properly less than 50% of the time. many of their customer service people are poorly trained, and some barely speak English. i have spent countless hours on the phone trying to get them to correct major and minor fuckups, and also countless hours on hold. their business model is unbelievable BAD---talk to 6 different people there and get 6 different answers to the same question. the WORST, the very WORST! dealing with them is worse than chinese water torture, magnified by the number of domains you own. i predict that within 18-24 months they will be history. they are living on borrowed time now. the only reason they have ANY market share now is that they held a monopoly for several years---only a crazy person would register with them today. here's my message to network solutions: you WASTED my time---so i moved 600 domains away from you clumsy fucks! ok, i vented |

A few years back, the government split up the monopoly Network Solutions held on the registration market. Now, at that time, they still allowed network solutions to controll the global registry (the thing that all competing registrars must report back to so all the data is kept in sync). As you may know, network solutions is now owned by Verisign.
Our good friends at VeriSign not only operate two registrars (registrars.com and Network Solutions), but also this central registry called "Verisign Global Registry." lots of domains have been expiring in the last few months as people forget to pay their bills, dot com companies flop, ect. When these domains expire, they are supposed to be deleted within a maximum timeframe of 30 to 45 days. Otherwise the registrar must pay an adidional registry fee to keep the domain active. (No registrar will do this unless they get paid by the client of course). This is all according to the global registry policy. Lets do a WHOIS lookup on a domain I know is expired, becasue I've been trying to register it SkullBocks.com wich if of course, the domain name used in the popular movie "Anti-Trust". The domain is registered at Network Solutions and it says "Record expires on 05-May-2001." so I contacted VeriSign and asked why the domain hasnt been deleted yet. No Response. I spoke with an official at a competing registrar who told me, "VerisSign essentially is allowed to break its own rules. It just says that it pays itself the additional registry fee to keep the domain alive. In all honesty. VeriSign could continue to hold onto as many expired domains for however long it wanted, and never be breaking the registry rules." ICANN, the non-profit corperation what was formed to assume responsibility for the IP address space allocation, Protocal parameter addignment, domain name systemmanegment, and root server system manegment functions, has yet to adopt a polocy that supersedes the policies put in place by VeriSign in this manner. Used to have huge problems with them, registered a lot of my domains back in the mid-90s when they were the only game in town. Couldn't modify the domains worth a shit while they were on their system, but the transfer was easy as cake and I haven't looked back.
