Ever have to keep other peoples kids under control in your own home ??

Fucking pisses me off how some parents don't seem to give a shit when their little brats are running amok in another person's house when visiting. My girlfriend seems to have made friends with the neighbours, and that's twice they have come round here now with their 2 year old son, and they sit and talk like nothing's happening while he is picking up shit, breaking or dropping it, spilling juice over the carpets or just throwing whatever he can get his hands on basically.

Now before anyone says it yes i know he's a child, and to be honest it's not the kid i have the problem with. If his parents kept control over him especially in someone else's house, then it wouldn't be an issue.

I found myself ending up having to check the kid for doing things, but that shouldn't be my job. It's at the point already when i don't even want them back in here if this is gonna be the case every visit. Why should my shit get wrecked because they can't keep their kid under control.

Agreed. Parents should be making sure their child behaves in other peoples homes. I had a party on saturday and one of my friends brought his 2 kids, these kids are very respectful in our house because the parents have brought them up right.

All the time. 10 year old daughter brings her friends round and it's a circus here with them and the dog.

My girl has a friend with an obnoxious little 4 year old. This chick has no problem telling my kids what to do here at my house, but the same can't be said for her and her own kid...who is given pretty much free reign to do whatever she pleases.

When they come over, I go grocery shopping or something to that effect.

I just tell parents (in a nice way) that if thier children are in MY home, they will be treated exactly as if they were MY OWN KIDS...

Then at the first sign of misbehaviour, I lock them in the closet, and burn their arms with cigarettes...

Works EVERY TIME !

When the kids get together they get exited!

Just like me when I go to a party, I get excited, start yelling and jumping around too

An ornament has been broken. And a mobile fone was thrown amongst other things. My girlfriend cleaned up the juice on the carpet. It isn't too bad but it is marked. Might not be so lucky next time though...

We have friends with a young kid like that - destructive, totally out of control and they do nothing to discipline him. We seldom get together and don't invite them over because of it.

My wife and I raised two daughters and never tolerated that sort of misbehavior. I recall one time we walked out of a restaurant when one of them was acting up. Lesson learned - we never had a repeat.

People these days aren't respectful of others and much of the time don't seem to give two shits what problems their unruly kids are causing.

Just buy a cage for visiting children. Most pet shops sell them although they always seem to get confused and label them for dogs.

3 choices in that situation 1. tell the GF that they aren't invited over to the house, 2. just stand there and tell the parent Everything that the kid is doing.. "hey, your kid is touching the remote, your kid spilled juice(and hand them the cleaning products" and she will either pay more attention, or not want to come over. 3. Explain to her that she needs to keep her kid under control while in your house, and that if the kid breaks anything , she bought it.

Easier said than done for some of us. We'd have to devote half a day to it. And I think Scott's point to all this was - why should the onus be on US to go to all the effort when the parents fail to control their kids properly.

I remember when growing up, parents a actually cared if their kids were on their best behavior, as it was a reflection on their parenting. It would seem that those days are long gone. In today's age, bad behavior is celebrated. Hell you might even get on some nanny 911 show and be rewarded. It's most likely a case of parents just being too lazy to get up off their asses and controll their little brats because everyone else can look after them for a while

Stand up for yourself. Politely tell them that behavior won't be tolerated. It's your property, not theirs. You make the rules. Telling them the behavior is not acceptable isn't being rude. They are the ones being rude.

I'm guessing you don't have kids.

Kids in your house are annoying when you don't have any kids of your own. After you have your own for six or ten years, you get used to it.

It's never happened here, well not in our house. I get the impression people here bring children up a little stricter than in the UK or US.

Friends bring children round and they never go wild. Still with a 37 kilo mass of muscle to play with and living here, most breakables are out of reach. And highly strung children have him to play with. He's the most unruly kid in the village.

My last weekend was spoiled exactly because of the same reason.I don't mind having kids around but I learned that you need to gently dictate your rules in your own house whether its with the kids or their parents. They come to your place to relax and have fun so why should you be stressed Its getting more popular here to bring up kids in freedom of thoughts and actions, parents avoid saying "NO" to them to bring up independent and self-confident young devils...

That's a bit bold considering you know nothing about me or my parenting style.

Let me clue you in. I've never had to beat my kid. I am former US Marine. I don't put up with bullshit in my life at any level, and surely not from kid or any other kid. My kid is a fucking angel.

There's two groups of kids - ones with parents that do it right, and everyone else. I see them both with my kid's friends, and we quietly steer clear of the bad ones.

Your in for a big surprise when you have kids.

eh...they should certainly control their kid more.

you could also try to engage the kid...maybe get him something he likes.
it is very hard to keep a kid happy at two years old.
ask them nicely for a juice cup for him...they dont spill.

how you act around kids your ability to handle the situation....girls soak that shit up

I don't have kids no.

Why should i "get used" to others peoples kids wasting things in my own home though? I'm very confused by that comment.

Are you suggesting i'm only annoyed at some other persons kids wasting shit in my house because i don't have kids of my own ??
